Aus dem Stand der Technik ist eine Vielzahl von Stufenstehleitern bekannt, bei denen das Steigteil oberhalb einer obersten Stufe oder Plattform mit einem Bügel abschließt. Der Bügel hat unter anderem eine Sicherheitsfunktion. So dient er dazu dem Benutzer der Stufenstehleiter Halt zu geben, insbesondere wenn er auf einer der oberen Stufen oder der oberen Plattform steht.
