- the bridge is supported by a support assembly formed by legs resting on the seabed or by a floating column anchored on the sea floor. To transport, install and dismantle a deck of an oil platform, several methods are used.
- One known method is to use barge-mounted lifting cranes to transfer the deck of the transport barge platform onto the support assembly.
- This method which until now is the most widespread, has limitations. Indeed, the first of these limitations is the capacity of the hoisting cranes which can impose to realize the bridge in several elements which significantly increases the manufacturing cost of this bridge and the cost of the installation and dismantling of said bridge of the oil rig.
- the second limitation lies in the fact that this method requires to have a relatively large window of time to be able to carry out this operation at sea in good conditions.
- Another known method is to install the deck of the oil platform in one block on the support assembly by floating it. Then, the bridge is disposed on this support assembly either by a ballast system or by a mechanical system.
- ballasting or deballasting systems depend on sea conditions, which makes it is difficult to use them in areas where windows of favorable weather are relatively short.
- FR-A-2 837 461 discloses a structure for transporting, installing and dismantling a bridge of a fixed oil platform which comprises a U-shaped floating hull equipped with at least three lifting legs of this hull and adapted to bear on the seabed and a shuttle movable along said legs by the hull and intended to be applied to the underside of a deck of an oil platform.
- the legs are lowered to bear on the seabed and the deck is raised via the shuttle which is itself raised by the hull.
- this type of structure can not be used for the installation or dismantling of the deck of an oil platform because the legs must be in contact with the bottom to lift the deck which is impossible for such deposits.
