Definitions
- the invention relates to a fire mass according to the preamble of patent claim 1 and a projectile according to claim 5 or 6.
- Known splinter firing munitions contain mixtures of highly explosive explosives such as hexogen, octogen, trotyl and aluminum powder.
- the DE 29 01 517 describes a fire mass with an organic binder and a metal sponge, such as zirconium or hafnium, wherein polytetrafluoroethylene is used as a binder in a proportion of 2 to 15 mass%.
- the invention has as its object to show a fire mass, which has a sufficiently high flame life.
- the invention is based on the knowledge gained in investigations that with a corresponding Kornvertellung the preferably spherical metal powder in the range of 50-250 ⁇ m only a proportion of the binder in the fire mass even less than 1 mass% is needed, Thus, the binder Be used in the smallest possible concentration, which still ensures sufficient compressibility and fixation of the fire mass. Especially in the use of explosives-free projectiles, this distribution has also given the best results in practice.
- the use of spherical metal powders, in particular zirconium metal powder, with a higher surface area allows the binder to be applied dry to the surface of the metal powder, thereby increasing the readability and allowing volumetric metering. Volumetric means to make the powder slippery by using coarse granules with ultrafine powder and at a given temperature.
- a good organic binder is Bakelite® which is incorporated in micronized form to aid in volumetric dosing.
- an organic binder preferably halogen-free, is also incorporated in this fire mass.
- This is, as already stated, preferably a thermoset or thermoplastic micronized organic binder
- the fire mass is inert in the projectile inert, its function in the target is developed by chemical reaction with atmospheric oxygen (air-breathing system with thermobaric reaction as non ideal high blast explosives).
- the fixation of the fire mass in the projectile or warhead is carried out by pressing and subsequent heat treatment to activate the thermoset crosslinking or melting of the thermoplastic binder.
- metal powders are titanium or hafnium. This type of metal powder is not produced from the reaction of the individual basic substances themselves, but from starting materials processed into bars. Thus, the zirconium powder with a mean grain size is not obtained from zircon itself, but from a zirconium rod.
