Definitions

  • the invention relates to a system for digital document capture and storage comprising a pedestal with a bracket pivotally engaging thereon and a digital camera having an image pick-up area which can be displayed by means of an optical positioning aid and connected to an electronic data processing device. Likewise, the use of an optical positioning aid is protected.
  • Such systems are used as so-called document management systems and are intended to ensure fully electronic filing and administration of correspondence. For this purpose, it is necessary to capture all documents received in paper form and to generate an electronically storable file format.
  • a known method for electronically detecting documents is the scanning. During the scanning, a linear scanning of the document takes place, wherein line by line is recorded in succession.
  • a known image recording device is disclosed in DE 102 04 660 A1 and comprises a base with an adjustable support arm, at the end of which a cone or cone is articulated.
  • the cone has at its front end a centrally arranged image sensor for taking an image of an object.
  • the signal generated by the image sensor is passed to a display device, such as a projector, and may also be connected to a random access memory to record the signals.

  • a random access memory to record the signals.
  • the known image capture devices for connection to a projector usually have an image sensor with a resolution of about 300,000 pixels, which is sufficient for the intended application. However, this resolution is not acceptable for electronic document capture. About that In addition, the optical positioning aid known in the art is not suitable for document capture. If a single light source is used, it illuminates limited by a diaphragm, a rectangular area corresponding to the image pick-up area. However, this leads to a punctual light concentration within the image pickup area, which adversely affects the optical quality of the document to be detected. Especially with glossy paper reflections cause a deterioration of the image quality. The alternatively proposed arrangement of four light sources distributed over the edge of the cone merely indicates the corners of the image pickup area and therefore does not affect the surface of the document. The disadvantage, however, is the difficult orientation of the document during reading between the displayed corners of the image pick-up area.
  • the object of the invention is now to develop a system for digital document capture and storage that allows a simple way during reading a document exact alignment for electronic detection and thereby generates a file whose representation of the document qualitatively largely the Original corresponds.
  • the object is achieved according to the invention with a system in which the digital camera has an image resolution of at least 2 million pixels and the positioning aid is a single laser, which displays a border of the image pick-up area with four contact edges by means of an optical system.
  • the document is recorded by means of the digital camera, which, unlike a scanner, captures all the pixels simultaneously. This results in a much higher Detection speed of the document as in the known scanner technologies. Further enhancement of the recording quality is achieved by using a digital camera with an image resolution of, for example, 3.5 million pixels.
  • the digital camera works with the ambient light common in offices and does not require an additional light source for document capture.
  • the use of a single laser with holographic optics allows on the one hand a high-contrast representation of the four contact edges of the image pick-up area in daylight and on the other hand does not affect the image pick-up area, so that the optimized on ambient light digital camera captures the document without reflection regardless of the optical properties of its surface.
  • the digital camera and the optical positioning aid are arranged stationary in the support arm. This results in the advantage that the operator can very quickly find an orthogonal alignment of the support arm and thus automatically the digital camera and the optical positioning aid to the document to be recorded.
  • the swinging out of the support arm can be done either by hand or by means of a prestressed spring element.
  • a locking of the support arm should be present, with which the support arm is releasably fixed in the folded state of the stand again. Since both the digital camera and the optical positioning aid are stationary relative to each other, the actual image pickup area is inevitably displayed. In the event, for example, that the distance between the document and the digital camera should decrease, thereby providing only a smaller actual image pickup area, the image pickup area indicated by the optical positioning aid decreases to the same extent.
  • the electronic data processing device may have a font recognition software located thereon. This ensures a particularly high-quality document storage of written documents, as the raw data is converted into fair copy regardless of any pixel errors.
  • Breakthroughs for the digital camera and the optical positioning aid are preferably arranged on the underside of the support arm. This allows attaching the digital camera and the optical positioning aid within the support arm, whereby the precisely adjusted components are largely protected from damage. Another positive aspect is the savings in installation space, since the digital camera and the optical positioning aid do not need their own housing.

To capture documents, the operator can flip the bracket over a hinge and place the digital camera and optical positioning aid in an operational position. By pivoting in a plane of motion, the support arm no additional degrees of freedom are available, so that the operator is very easy to find the ready position.
