Definitions
- the invention relates to an electrical connector for connecting at least two electrical contact elements with a first and a second connector part, which can be plugged together to form a connector. Furthermore, the invention relates to an electrical connection system with such an electrical connector and a method for forming an electrical connection system.
- Electrical connectors are used in particular in the automotive sector for connecting a plurality of metallic contact elements.
- the electrical contact elements are arranged, for example, at the ends of wires of a wire harness and are combined in the electrical connector to form a unit that can be used, for example, like a plug or a contact terminal.
- EP 1241738 A2 which is considered to represent the closest prior art, describes an electrical connector which is mated from a first and a second connector part.
- Each of the connector parts has a plurality of receptacles for plugging in each case an electrical contact element.
- the receptacles each have a lateral opening into which a projection element can engage such that it holds in the receptacles inserted contact elements in the respective recording.
- the first connector part comprises a first projection element, which engages in the mating of the two connector parts in the lateral opening of the receptacles of the second connector part and fixed in the receptacles inserted contact elements.
- the second connector part has a second projection element, which engages in the mating of the two connector parts in the lateral opening of the receptacles of the first connector part.
- Each of the connector parts is assigned a projection element in the known solution, which "reciprocally" engages in the lateral opening of the receptacles of the respective other connector part to hold the contact elements received there.
- the projection elements engage through the lateral openings of the receptacles into the lateral recesses of the contact elements. The fixation of the individual contact elements thus takes place in all contact elements during the assembly process. Before the mating process and during mating, the contact elements in the recordings are loose.
- Object of the present invention is to make the assembly process safe and ensure at least a portion of the contact elements that they can not be detached from the recordings during the Caribbeansteckreaes.
- the second projection element which is provided for engaging in the lateral opening of the at least one receptacle of the first connector part, is either provided on the first connector part or can be connected to it in such a way that it forms a unit with the first connector part Education of the Connector entirety can be plugged together with the second connector part.
- the first projection element which is intended to engage in the lateral opening of the at least one receptacle of the second connector part, is provided on the first connector part, but also the second projection element, which in the lateral opening of the at least one receptacle of the first connector part should intervene.
- the second projection element can be inserted before the Caribbeansteckgrin the two connector parts in the lateral opening of the receptacles of the first connector part to fix the contact elements in its recordings.
- the contact elements in the first connector part are firmly fixed even before the assembly process and can no longer slip out of the receptacles during the assembly process.
- the first connector part together with the contact elements can be plugged together as a unit with the second connector part, without having to pay attention to the correct position of the contact elements in the first connector part. As a result, the control effort during the assembly process is significantly reduced, making assembly easier and cheaper.
- first contact elements are introduced into the receptacles of the first connector part.
- these contact elements are firmly fixed therein.
- Further contact elements are inserted into the receptacles of the second connector part, engages in the lateral opening upon mating with the first connector part, the first projection element of the first connector part and the contact elements fixed. In this way, a connector total, in which all contact elements are held.
- the projection elements are designed to clamp the contact elements or to engage in optionally provided lateral recesses in the contact elements.
- the second projection element which is intended to engage in the lateral opening of the receptacles of the first connector part in order to hold the contact elements located in its receptacles, can for example be designed to be insertable into the lateral opening.
- the second projection element is provided so movably on the first connector part, that it is insertable into the lateral opening of the first connector part, but is fastened to the first connector part in a non-detachable manner.
- the non-detachable, but movable connection ensures that the second projection element and the first connector part are always positioned correctly to each other and after insertion of the contact elements in the receptacles of the first connector part a simple fixation of the contact elements is possible without a prior adjustment of the second Projecting element would be necessary with respect to the lateral opening of the receptacles of the first connector part.
- a simple embodiment provides for this purpose a folding lever connected to the first connector part, on which the second projection element is arranged.
- To insert the contact elements in the recording of the folding lever is initially open. After insertion thereof, the folding lever is folded so that the second projection element engages in the lateral opening of the first connector part and fixes the contact elements located therein.
- a simple solution provides that the folding lever is attached by means of a film hinge to the first connector part. In particular, if the first connector part or both connector parts are made of plastic, this represents a cost-effective solution.
- a simple securing possibility for the second projection element in the lateral opening of the receptacles of the first connector part can be ensured for example by a latching mechanism which engages when the second projection element is inserted into the lateral receptacle of the first connector part.
- the first projection element which is provided on the first connector part and engages in mating in the lateral opening of the receptacles of the second connector part, may for example also be provided on the folding lever.
- the two connector parts may for example be equipped with rails and corresponding rail counterparts, which serve as a guide during the mating of the two connector parts and hold them firmly together after the assembly process.
- a simple and secure embodiment provides that one of the connector parts is designed as a housing, in which the other connector part can be inserted as an insert. It creates a compact unit that is largely completed to the outside. It is preferably provided that the surrounding housing formed by the second connector part and the insert by the first connector part.
- the contact elements are first introduced into the receptacles of the first connector part designed as an insert and fixed in the manner described with the second projection element provided on the first connector part. Further contact elements are introduced into the receptacles of the second connector part designed as a surrounding housing. Insertion of the insert into the surrounding housing causes the first projection element, which is provided on the insert, to engage in the lateral opening of the receptacles of the surrounding housing and fixes the contact elements introduced in its receptacles.
- the connector parts may be integrated, for example, metallic contacts that come into electrical contact with the inserted contact elements to allow a contact.
- the connector parts have first passage openings through which the electrical contact elements, which are inserted into the receptacles, can be contacted.
- the surrounding housing advantageously has second passage openings which correspond to the first passage openings in the receptacles of the insert in order to insert the insert into the surrounding housing Contacting of the contact elements in the recordings of the insert to enable.
- the first projection element which is provided on the first connector part and engages in mating with the second connector part in the lateral opening of the receptacles of the second connector part can for example, be provided on the side of the first connector part which precedes the mating, in which case the first and the second connector part are designed such that the first connector part is plugged in the direction of the receptacles of the second connector part.
- a secure and simple embodiment provides that the receptacles of the second connector part and the lateral opening in the receptacles of the second connector part are arranged such that the elongated opening designed as a lateral opening in the receptacles of the second connector part is substantially parallel to the mating direction and in Substantially extends perpendicular to the insertion direction of the contact elements.
- a correspondingly designed first projection element which is provided on the first connector part, can then be guided by the lateral opening in the receptacles of the second connector part in the manner of a rail in order to ensure a secure mating.
- first and / or the second connector part have more than one receptacle, it is advantageous if the receptacles of a connector part have a common lateral opening for all receptacles of this connector part.
- An inventive electrical connection system has an electrical connector according to the invention and a number of the receptacles in the first and the second connector part corresponding number in the receptacles plug-in contact elements.
- An electrical connection system may have electrical contact elements which are clamped in the receptacles by a projection element engaging in the lateral receptacles.
- the contact elements on lateral recesses which correspond with the correct orientation of the contact elements in the receptacles with the lateral openings of the receptacles to allow engagement of the protrusion elements in the recesses and thus secure the contact elements.
- the invention further relates to a method for forming an electrical connection system according to the invention.
- electrical contact elements are inserted.
- the second projection element provided on the first connector part is brought into engagement with the lateral opening of the receptacles of the first connector part in order to fix the contact elements inserted in its receptacles. If, for example, according to a particular embodiment, the second projection element is fastened to the first connector part by means of a folding lever, then the folding lever is folded so that the second projection element engages in the lateral opening of the receptacles of the first connector part.
- the contact elements are firmly fixed in the receptacles of the first connector part.
- the first connector part is then plugged together with the second connector part, so that the first protrusion element likewise provided on the first connector part engages in the lateral opening of the receptacles of the second connector part.
