Claims (11)

  1. Electrical connector, in particular for motor vehicles, for the connection of two or more electrical contact elements (46),
    - having a first connector portion (12) having one or more receptacles (16) for plugging in an electrical contact element (46) and a second connector portion (14) having one or more receptacles (18) for plugging in an electrical contact element (46),
    - the first and second connector portions being capable of being assembled in a direction of assembly (50) in such a way that a connector assembly (10) is formed, and the one or more receptacles (16) of the first connector portion and the one or more receptacles (18) of the second connector portion having in each case one or more lateral openings (28, 26) in each of which a projection element (22, 20) can engage in such a way that contact elements (46) plugged into the receptacles (16, 18) are held in the respective receptacle (16, 18), and
    - having a first projection element (20) which is either provided on the first connector portion (12) or can be connected thereto in such a way that it forms with the first connector portion a unit which can be assembled with the second connector portion to form the connector assembly, and is designed so as to engage in the lateral opening (26) of the one or more receptacles (18) of the second connector portion (14) when the two connector portions (12, 14) are assembled,
    characterised by
    a second projection element (22) which
    - is permanently connected to the first projection element or formed with the latter from one piece, and
    - is designed so as to be able to engage in the lateral opening (28) of the one or more receptacles (16) of the first connector portion (12).
  2. Electrical connector according to claim 1, characterised in that the second projection element (22) is provided on the first connector portion (12) not releasably, but movably in such a way that it can be introduced into the lateral opening (28) of the first connector portion (12).
  3. Electrical connector according to claim 2, characterised by a pivot lever (24) which is provided on the first connector portion (12) and on which the second projection element (22) is arranged.
  4. Electrical connector according to claim 3, characterised by a film hinge (38) by which the pivot lever (24) is connected to the first connector portion (12).
  5. Electrical connector according to any of claims 1 to 4, characterised by a latch mechanism (30, 32) for latching the second projection element (22) in the lateral opening (28) of the one or more receptacles (16) of the first connector portion (12).
  6. Electrical connector according to any of claims 1 to 5, characterised in that one of the connector portions is designed as a surrounding housing (14) in which the other connector portion can be inserted as an insert (12), preferably the surrounding housing (14) being formed by the second connector portion and the insert (12) being formed by the first connector portion.
  7. Electrical connector according to any of claims 1 to 6, characterised in that the lateral opening (28) of the one or more receptacles (16) of the first connector portion (12) and/or the lateral opening (26) of the one or more receptacles (18) of the second connector portion (14) includes an elongate opening which is arranged substantially parallel to the direction of assembly, preferably substantially perpendicularly to the orientation of the receptacle (16, 18).
  8. Electrical connector according to any of claims 1 to 7, characterised in that the first and/or the second connector portion (12, 14) has several receptacles (16, 18) for contact elements (46) and in each case a common lateral opening (26, 28) is provided for all receptacles (16, 18) of a connector portion (12, 14).

    a1) one or more electrical contact elements (46) are plugged into the one or more receptacles (16) of the first connector portion (12),
    a2) one or more electrical contact elements (46) are plugged into the one or more receptacles (18) of the second connector portion (14),
    a3) either before or after step a2) the second projection element (22) of the first connector portion (12) is brought into engagement with the lateral opening (28) of the one or more receptacles (16) of the first connector portion (12), and
    b) the unit including the second projection element (22) and the first connector portion (12) is assembled with the second connector portion (14) to form a connector assembly (10), as a result of which the first projection element (20) of the first connector portion (12) comes into engagement with the lateral opening (26) of the one or more receptacles (18) of the second connector portion (14).
