Definitions
- the present invention generally relates to discharge lamp projectors.
- such a projector comprises a reflector in which is mounted a discharge lamp, powered by a separate high-voltage power supply module, fixed for example in or on the housing of the projector.
- a shielded cable connects the power module to the lamp, while the electromagnetic emissions at the lamp and its power supply module are sensed by specific shielding arrangements.
- Discharge lamps have recently been developed characterized by the presence, in a fixed or removable base of the lamp, of all or part of the high-voltage supply circuit. This avoids the use of a power supply housing the converter circuits and high voltage, and therefore heavy and bulky, and therefore difficult to place in a motor vehicle headlight whose requirements in terms of compactness and lightness are without ceases growing. Thus, with this type of lamp, only a DC-DC converter circuit must be provided separately from the lamp, with a substantially reduced weight and bulk.
- a difficulty that can be expected with this new type of lamp lies in the problems of electromagnetic compatibility in the power circuits associated with the lamp.
- the present invention aims to overcome these problems of the prior art, and to propose a projector which as such, without weighing down, complicating or increasing the cost of comes back from its case, or other elements, and without having to design the surrounding body specifically for these issues of disturbance, or to meet the usual requirements for electromagnetic compatibility.
- a motor vehicle headlamp comprising a gas discharge lamp associated with a supply circuit and mounted in a mirror, and shielding means with respect to disturbing electromagnetic emissions, characterized in that said supply circuit is received in a housing associated with the lamp at the rear thereof, and in that the shielding means comprise a conductive material completely surrounding said housing and adapted to provide electrical continuity between a shielding braid of a power cable arriving at said housing and shielding arrangements associated with the mirror.
- said conductive material belongs to a housing defining said housing.
- Said conductive material is mechanically attached to the outside of said housing.
- Said conductive material is deposited on an outer face of said housing.
- Said conductive material belongs to a cover attached to the rear of the mirror and surrounding a non-conductive housing defining said housing.
- the projector includes first connection means for providing electrical continuity between said conductive material surrounding said housing and a second shielding conductive material provided at the rear surface of the mirror.
- the first connecting means comprise a series of claws electrically connected to said second conductive material and bearing against said first conductive material. Said claws are mounted on a lamp holder attached to the mirror.
- the first connection means comprise support arrangements for said cover against said second conductive material at the rear of the mirror.
- the first connection means comprise a deformable seal of electrically conductive material, interposed between the first and second conductive materials.
- the deformable seal is mounted on the mirror.
- the deformable seal is mounted on a lamp holder attached to the mirror.
- the projector includes second connecting means for providing electrical continuity between said conductive material surrounding said housing and said shielding braid.
- the lamp housing has a first connector
- the end of the power cable has a second connector capable of being plugged with the first connector
- said second connecting means are able to eliminate the electrical continuity between said conductive material surrounding said housing and said shielding braid only after the contacts of the first and second connectors conveying the supply voltage of the lamp have separated.
- the second connecting means comprises a series of claws carried by said second connector, said claws being in contact with the shielding braid and with the conductive material surrounding the housing.
- Said second connecting means comprise a conductive seal in contact with the shielding braid and with the conductive material surrounding the housing.
- Said second connecting means comprise support arrangements against the braid of the power cable, formed on said cover around an orifice for the passage of said cable.
- the projector comprises a conductive elastic element able to bear against said conductive material at a rear face of said housing, to simultaneously ensure the retention of the lamp in the axial direction and electrical continuity of shielding with other shielding elements of the projector.
- Said housing is an integral part of the lamp.
- Said housing is part of a connector on which the lamp is removably mounted.
- the projector further includes control circuitry received in an electrically conductive control box remote from the lamp, and third connecting means for providing electrical continuity between said control box and the cable braid.
- the third connection means comprise a third connector provided on the control box and a fourth connector provided at the end of the supply cable opposite the lamp and adapted to be plugged with the third connector, and, during the separation third and fourth connectors, said third connecting means are able to suppress the electrical continuity between said control box and said shielding braid only after the contacts of the third and fourth connectors carrying the supply voltage of the lamp have separated .
- the present invention proposes a gas discharge lamp for a motor vehicle headlamp, said lamp being associated with a supply circuit, characterized in that it incorporates in a housing said supply circuit, and in that it further comprises shielding means comprising a conductive material completely surrounding said housing and adapted to ensure electrical continuity between a shielding braid of a power cable arriving in the housing and shielding arrangements provided on a mirror adapted to receive said lamp.
- a discharge lamp 10 which comprises an outer bulb 11 sheltering not shown and known per se an inner bulb receiving a gas mixture and two electrodes to form a luminescent arc by a gaseous discharge phenomenon.
- a lamp body 12 having a flange 13 intended to cooperate with appropriate bearing portions of the mirror to reference the position of the lamp therein, this body being extended to the back by a housing 14 made for example in one piece with the body, all of suitable plastic material, and defining a cavity 15 for housing the electronic circuits (not shown) for feeding the lamp under the appropriate voltages .
- This housing 14 defines in the lower part a connector 17 adapted to cooperate with a complementary connector (not shown) at the end of a shielded supply cable of the lamp 10, providing a voltage, preferably a DC voltage greater than that of the vehicle's onboard network, produced by a suitable DC / DC converter, and appropriately processed by the power supply circuits.
- the present invention applies equally well to a lamp in which the housing is removably attached via a suitable connector to the rear of the lamp.
- the casing 14 for the supply circuits receives a substantially continuous conducting outer casing 16 intended to pick up the parasitic electromagnetic emissions emitted by these circuits, so as to complete the shielding to which already contribute, in known manner, the mirror of the projector and a metal shield placed in the mirror in front of the lamp.
- this envelope 16 is made in the form of a thin metal sheet attached around the casing 14.
- this envelope is made by deposition, in particular by physical or chemical means, of at least one conductive layer 16 on the outside of the case.
- this deposit on the inner face of the housing, providing in this case auxiliary conductive means for the continuity of the shielding with the other parts of the projector, external to this housing, can be achieved.
- the thin envelope extends at 16a at the connector 17, so as to leave strictly accessible only what is necessary to ensure the cooperation of the connector 17 with its complementary connector.
- FIG. 5 illustrates the principle of a second embodiment of the invention.
- the lamp 10 made as previously, but with a housing 14 without shielding itself, a mirror 20 in which the lamp is mounted, and a metal shield 40.
- the mirror 20 has, on its rear surface opposed to its reflective surface 21, a conductive layer 22 reported mechanically or deposited physically or chemically.
- This conductive layer 22 and the concealer 40 are both, in known manner, connected to the ground to participate in the shielding vis-à-vis interfering electromagnetic emissions, mainly at the arc and the electrodes of the lamp .
- FIG. 5 also shows a power supply cable 50 provided with a bare outer shielding braid 51 and terminating in a connector 52 capable of cooperating with the connector 17 provided on the lamp housing 14.
- This cable preferably has, at its other end, a similar connector, capable of ensuring under the same conditions the continuity of the shielding with a conductive housing, to ground, housing the aforementioned DC-DC converter and more generally control circuits of the projector.
- the housing 14 of the lamp which projects beyond the rear of the mirror, is received inside a conductive cover 30 attached to the rear of the mirror.
- This cover has a main wall 31 facing the rear face and the lateral faces and upper and lower housing 14, while at its front end (right in Figure 5) open, it has facilities peripherals, such as bends 32 or claws, for providing electrical continuity with the conductive layer 22 of the mirror.
- the cover 30 also has at its lower wall an opening surrounded by arrangements 33 such as claws, able to provide electrical contact with the bare shielding braid 51 of the cable 50.
- arrangements 33 such as claws, able to provide electrical contact with the bare shielding braid 51 of the cable 50.
- a conductive seal may be used.
- the cover 30 which provides the electrical continuity between the ground shielding elements formed by the braid 51 and the conductive layer 22 of the mirror 20, while the shield 40 is connected to the conductive layer. 22 by conductive support tabs, not shown.
- Figures 6 to 9 illustrate a possible embodiment for mounting the lamp as described above with reference to Figures 1 to 4 in a mirror.
- the mirror has here, either in one piece, or attached to it, a bell-shaped member 23 extending at the rear of the mirror around the lamp hole, and open towards the rear.
- the lamp is mounted in the mirror from the rear so that its casing 14 with an outer conductive layer 16 partially engages in the bell 23.
- This bell carries at its periphery a plurality of claws 231 of metal having suitable elastic properties, and for example spring steel, which are suitable, when the lamp is put in place, to bear against the conductive layer 16 of the housing 14.
- claws are further electrically connected to the conductive layer 22 located behind the mirror 20, thereby ensuring electrical continuity of the shield between the mirror and the housing 14 of the lamp.
- the bell 23 means for retaining the lamp 10 in position, constituted by a leaf-spring 232 or other elastic member whose one end is hingedly mounted on said bell and whose opposite end can lock on the latter on the opposite side.
- the leaf spring 232 rests on the rear face of the housing 14 to retain the lamp in its reference position defined by the support of the collar 13 on appropriate arrangements surrounding the lamp hole of the mirror. It will be noted here that the leaf spring 232 also contributes to the electrical continuity of the shield.
- Figure 8 illustrates in particular the pivotal mounting of the leaf spring 232 at its end 2321, and the locking of said leaf spring at its opposite end 2322.
- Fig. 8 also shows that the claws 231 extend forward (i.e., downwardly in the figure) to join a conductive part 60 belonging to the lamp holder, which is engaged in the lamp hole of the mirror. and in contact with both the conductive layer 22 of the mirror and the shield 40 (not shown) via the fastening tabs thereof (also not shown).
- FIG. 9 illustrates the assembly of the lamp holder PL, bearing four claws 231 and provided with arrangements 61, 62 respectively for the pivotal mounting of the retaining spring blade 232 and for locking it in the locked position.
- one or more deformable seals of electrically conductive material may be used, capable of being compressed between the conductive surfaces between which it is a question of ensuring electrical continuity.
- Figure 10 shows schematically, in perspective, the cooperation between the connector 17 belonging to the housing 14 of the lamp and the complementary connector 52 provided at the end of the shielded power supply cable.
- this complementary connector 52 carries a series of resilient and electrically conductive claws 521 able to bear, when the connectors are assembled, against the conductive layer 16a surrounding the connector 17. This ensures the electrical continuity of shielding between the outer braid 51 of the cable 50 and the conductive coating 16, 16a of the lamp housing 14, and consequently with the other elements, mainly mirror and shield, participating in the shielding.
- the claws 521 can be replaced or completed by a deformable gasket of electrically conductive material compressed between the surfaces between which the electrical continuity of shielding must be ensured.
- the connectors 17 and 52 are designed so that their disconnection first causes the disconnection of the conductor or conductors carrying the supply voltage of the lamp, and only then the disconnection of the connection ensuring continuity shielding. Conversely, when the connectors 17 and 52 are assembled, the continuity to the shielding will be established before the connector or connectors of the actual power supply.
- FIG. 11 illustrates another embodiment for mounting a lamp according to FIGS. 1 to 4 behind the mirror 20.
- the lamp hole is surrounded by an axial flange 24, and a conductive ring 25 is mounted, for example by screws, on the free annular surface defined by the flange 24 at its rear end.
- This ring 25 carries at its periphery a series of double claws 251 whose anterior part is adapted to come into contact with the conductive layer 22 formed at the rear of the mirror 20 (this conductive layer extending at 22a at the outer face of the flange 24), and a rear portion of which is capable of coming into contact with the conductive coating 16 formed on the casing 14 of the lamp 10.
- a conductive seal can again be used here.
- the ring 25 carries a leaf spring 252 retaining the lamp, similar to the leaf spring 232 described above.
- Figure 12 illustrates an improvement to the retaining spring blade 242, here mounted directly on a flange 24 made in one piece with the mirror 20 or reported on it.
- the leaf spring 242 carries an appendix 2421 intended to cap, with electrical conduction, the outer braid bare of the power cable 50. This allows in particular to achieve electrical continuity between said braid and the shield 22 of the mirror 20, whose electrical continuity with the leaf spring 242 is achieved by any suitable means.
- FIG. 13 illustrates a particular embodiment of the mounting of the shielding cover 30 of FIG. 5 around the rear part of the lamp.
- the cover 30 has a first appendage 34 by which it is pivotally mounted on an axis integral with the mirror, and a second appendage through which, the cover being in place by covering the lamp, it is held in position by means of a screw or the like.
