Due to the strong influence of the vehicle design on the image of a motor vehicle, automotive headlights are subject to influences of the design more than ever before. Therefore, in the design and construction of headlamps for motor vehicles appropriate boundary conditions must be considered. Due to the free-form surface technology in modern vehicle headlamps conventionally structured Cover or diffuser discs are replaced by clear glass covers. However, this also implies the need to design the interior of the headlamp according to design criteria, which in turn causes lighting problems, such as a caused by deflected light components so-called self-glare of a driver of the motor vehicle.
These constraints in the manufacture of vehicle headlamps include the desire for vehicle headlamps to perform a native function or custom design specifications such that the make or type of the vehicle is recognizable when viewing the vehicle headlamps.
It is an object of the invention to provide by means of a vehicle headlamp a origin function or custom design specifications, without restricting the functionality of the vehicle headlamp as a lighting device.
The aforementioned object is achieved by a headlight lens for a vehicle headlight with a light source, in particular for a motor vehicle headlight, the headlight lens comprising a lens body made of a transparent material, which can be turned into a light source, e.g. essentially planar, face and one to be turned away from the light source, e.g. substantially convex surface, and wherein the headlight lens on the surface to face the light source has an emblem with a base surface inclined to the light source facing surface or to an optical axis of the headlight lens such that the surface to be turned away from the light source the optical axis of the headlight lens in the lens body penetrating light at the base of a total reflection subject. An emblem according to the invention may e.g. be a lettering, a geometric figure, an arrangement of geometric figures or any other symbol.
A base according to the invention has in particular a constant inclination. However, the inclination of the base may also vary slightly, if necessary, within the limits set by the claims. For example, it may be provided that the inclinations of the base area at opposite ends of the base area differ by 5 ° or 10 °. A base area according to the invention has in particular an extension of at least 10 mm 2 . A base area in the sense of the invention is in particular a macrostructure, not a microstructure.
