Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for reducing the risk of fire or delaying the flame ignition in preferably large open or covered, with floating bodies covered storage tanks for flammable liquid media, such as crude oil or the like, consisting of a stationary cylindrical cavity as a tank for holding the liquid, which optionally is provided with another protective wall surrounding it at a certain distance and serves as a collecting space in the event of leakage.

At least 70% to 80% of the area of the covering roof 12 should be occupied, as tests have shown, effective protection is also achieved here.
  • FIG. 9 shows an embodiment variant which can be used advantageously in double-jacket containers. The space 16, 17 from the two side walls 11, 18 is completely filled with expanded material 3. Complete protection is thereby achieved, ie made mechanically inert, or at least one or two layers, for example 15 to 50 cm thick, of expanded material 3 are attached in the upper region 19.
  • cover body 2 designed in this way reduces the risk of fire or delays the ignition of the flame in order to use the time from the fire detection until the extinguishing measures are activated and to avoid major damage. Experiments have shown that fire and, above all, smoke are delayed. In any case, there is an economical use of easily produced stretch material.
