Definitions
- the present invention relates to a retractable roof for a motor vehicle, and more particularly such a roof comprising at least one front roof element and one rear roof element, rigid and movable between a closed position where they cover the passenger compartment of the vehicle and a storage position where they are stored in the rear trunk of the vehicle.
- a retractable roof for a motor vehicle comprising a front roof element, an intermediate roof element and a rear roof element, these three elements being movable between a position where they cover the passenger compartment of the vehicle and a position in which they are superimposed substantially horizontally in the trunk.
- the documents FR - A - 2 819 757, FR - A- 2 820 691, FR - A- 2 816 248 and FR - A - 2 816 253 disclose such retractable roofs comprising a rear roof element, movement to the trunk is controlled by a pivoting arm articulated to the chassis of the vehicle, and which is guided in its movement by a slide extending in the trunk.
- the present invention aims to overcome this drawback.
- the invention aims to provide a displacement system accommodating a reduced trunk length.
- the invention firstly relates to a retractable roof for a motor vehicle, comprising at least one front roof element and one roof element rear, rigid and movable between a closed position where they cover the passenger compartment of the vehicle and a storage position where they are stored in the rear boot of the vehicle, the rear element being arranged to be moved by means of pivoting arms and guided by rails extending into the boot, this retractable roof comprising a first arm articulated transversely to the plane of symmetry of the vehicle, at a first end thereof on the chassis of the vehicle and at its second end on a first end of a second arm articulated at its second end on said rear element, also transversely to the plane of symmetry of the vehicle.
- one or the other of the arms, or both could be composed of two or more articulated arms. There may indeed be cases where more than two joints would further limit the length of movement of the rear part of the roof.
- the roof according to the invention comprises first means for driving the first arm in rotation relative to the chassis of the vehicle and second means for driving the second arm in rotation relative to the first arm.
- It can also include means for synchronizing said first and second drive means. More particularly, said synchronization means can be arranged to cause first actuation of the first drive means, then actuation of the second drive means.
- the invention also relates to a motor vehicle comprising a retractable roof as described above.
- FIG. 1 is a sectional view of the rear part of a vehicle with a retractable roof with the rear roof element in cover position;
- FIG. 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 with the rear element of the roof being stored;
- Figure 3 is a view similar to Figures 1 and 2 with the rear part of the roof in the storage position;
- FIG. 4 illustrates the storage kinematics of the rear part of the roof
- Figure 5 is a top view corresponding to Figure 3.
- the figures show the rear part of a motor vehicle including the backrest 1 of the rear seat separating the living area 2 from the rear trunk 3.
- the roof is a retractable roof composed of several rigid elements of which only the rear element 4 is represented.
- the cover 5 of the rear trunk 3 is also shown in the drawings, this cover 5 receiving the boxes 6 of the rear lights.
- an arm 7 is articulated on the chassis of the vehicle around an axis 8 substantially perpendicular to the plane of symmetry of the vehicle.
- the arm 7 is operated using a jack 9, one end of which is mounted at 10 on the chassis of the vehicle and the other end is fixed at 11 to the arm 7.
- an axis 12 parallel to the axis 8 receives a second arm 13.
- the arm 13 is pivotally mounted on the rear part 4 of the roof around an axis 14.
- the axis 14 is parallel to the axes 8 and 12.
- a second cylinder 15 makes it possible to actuate the arm 13 relative to the arm 7.
- this cylinder is mounted at 16 on a midpoint of the arm 7 and its other end is mounted at 17 on the arm 13.
- the arms 7 and 13 allow the rear part 4 of the roof to be raised and tilted towards the rear. This movement is guided by the engagement of a finger 18 in a guide slide 19 housed in the rear trunk 3.
- Figure 1 shows the roof in the covering position in which its elements cover the passenger compartment 2 of the vehicle.
- the front edge 20 of the rear element 4 of the roof is in contact with the rear edge of an intermediate element or of a front element not shown, and the rear edge 21 of the element 4 is in contact with the front edge of the trunk lid 5 3.
- the passage of the roof in the storage position is carried out by lifting in a known manner the front edge of the lid 5 of the trunk 3 and by pivoting the arm 13 around the axis 12 using the jack 15. During this movement, the arm 7 remains fixed. We thus arrive at the intermediate position shown in FIG. 2.
- the arm 7 is then pivoted around the axis 8 using the jack 9. During this movement, the relative position of the arms 7 and 13 remains constant. We thus arrive at the storage position shown in FIG. 3.
- the synchronization of the jacks 9 and 15 is carried out as shown in FIG. 1 using a control unit 22. It can be seen in FIG. 4 that the use of the two arms 7 and 13 leads to an increase in the length of movement in the trunk 3 from to l 2 . Indeed, the use of a single lever causes a circular displacement of the axis 14 along a radius R1 over the entire travel of the displacement while, thanks to the use of the two arms, the displacement of radius Ri is limited to a certain angle and then continues on a radius R 2 .
