Definitions
- the invention relates to a contact device for electrical cables with a cable shield arcuate contact part, which is around the cable sheath of the cable according to the preamble of claim 1.
- a contact device for electrical cables with a cable shield arcuate contact part, which is around the cable sheath of the cable according to the preamble of claim 1.
- Such a contact device is known from US 4,696,908 known.
- US 5,636,306 is a ground terminal for optical fibers known.
- the earthing terminal consists of a frame part connected to a protective conductor and pairs of opposing handle elements which are guided in the frame part.
- the grip elements form in an assembly position an opening into which an optical waveguide can be threaded.
- the gripping elements are each provided with radially inwardly directed teeth, which are pressed in a fastening position by a clamping device on the metallic sheathing of the optical waveguide.
- an electrical contact is made with the protective conductor.
- Devices connected to the optical fiber are protected from static electricity and lightning by the grounding.
- the disadvantage is that the contact device consists of a large number of individual parts and is therefore expensive to manufacture.
- Object of the present invention is to provide a contact device for electrical cables, which does not require stripping, which allows reliable contact and strain relief and is suitable for the production in large quantities.
- each contact element is tapered towards a tip formed so that it penetrates the cable sheath when setting in a substantially radially inward thrust direction and makes electrical contact with the cable shield.
- the invention is based on the knowledge that it is advantageous for reliable contacting and strain relief when the cable sheath is pierced by the contact elements and is not cut through by blades as in the prior art. This reduces the risk of damage to the insulation of the inner individual wires.
- the protective cable sheath is only damaged in those areas where the contact elements penetrate. In the area of penetration, the cable sheath seals against the contact elements. This seal ensures that each contact point is better protected against outside air and moisture. This protection reduces the formation of oxide layers between the contact partners. For devices of communication technology, which often have a minimum useful life of many years This reliable and long-term stable ground connection of the cable shield is very advantageous.
- the contact resistance over the entire service life can be kept equally low by the invention.
- the handling of the contact device according to the invention is simple. It is clamped around the cable sheath and fixed, for example by a screw on a support. When setting the electrical contact and the mechanical strain relief is made simultaneously. As the sheath is pierced and not cut through, the risk of inadvertently damaging the insulation of the individual cores enclosed by the shed when contacting the shroud is reduced. A costly stripping of the cable is not required.
- the contact device according to the invention can be mounted within a comparatively short time. Both the shape and the design of the contact elements can be designed differently.
- the contact elements may be formed for example by tapered cones or pyramids. In the contact area a plurality of axially spaced rows of contact elements may be provided. It is only crucial that the cable sheath is not cut through but pierced, whereby the remaining between the contact elements of the jacket remains intact. The strain relief takes place in the jacket of the cable and is flexible. In the area of penetration, the sealing effect due to elastic bias is maintained even when mechanical stresses act on the cable. In the clamped state, the tips of the contact elements remain radially spaced from the individual wires. As a result, it does not affect the insulation property of the Single cores when a mechanical tensile force is introduced with a radially directed force component on the cable.
- the contact elements of the fixed contact part penetrate the cable sheath in such a way that the electrical contact is produced in a surface running essentially concentrically in the cable.
- the electrical contact and the mechanical strain relief is divided evenly over several contact elements. Both effects are reliably maintained even in harsh operating environments.
- a simple embodiment of the invention results when the contact part is designed as a cable clamp and the contact elements are formed by cutting teeth of a ring gear.
- the fixed cable clamp is centered by radially arranged on the inside between the cutting teeth stops.
- the stops limit the penetration depth of the contact elements. It does not come to an oval deformation of the cable cross-section, with the result of irregularly deeply penetrated contact elements. This is particularly advantageous in cables whose sheath consists of a comparatively soft elastic plastic, and whose screen consists of an easily pierceable coiled, thin film or of a thin metal braid.
- the cable clamp is made of a stamped and bent part and the cutting teeth are formed from radially inwardly bent edges of a sheet metal blank. It is advantageous if the cutting teeth are triangular in shape and the tips are arranged at the same circumferential distance.
- the cutting teeth are matched to the thickness of the shell. This is done by a design, wherein the cutting teeth have a tooth height that is less than or equal to a total thickness formed from the thickness of the cable sheath and the cable shield, is. This makes it obvious that the insulation of the individual wires is not damaged.
- a radial stop can be produced in a simple manner by the cutting teeth are circumferentially arranged on the gap.
- the stop may also be different, for example, be prepared by radially inwardly directed spurs.
- the contact part together with the cutting teeth is made in one piece and of the same material from a metallic material.
- Oxidation of the contact elements can be inexpensively prevented by a coating of corrosion-resistant material, preferably with tin. But it may also be advantageous if the contact part is made of a corrosion-resistant material.
- the mechanical strength of the contact device can be improved by stiffening, which are designed for example as beads or ribs. This is particularly advantageous if the contact device according to the invention is used in an electrical device which is exposed to strong shocks during operation. Since in addition to the contact at the same time also a strain relief, eliminating additional clamps and cable clips. Of course, a plurality of contact devices may be provided on a line.
- the attachment to a support member can be done by screw, creating a cost-effective, robust and long-term stable ground connection between the shield of the cable and the housing ground is created.
- the contact part is molded while leaving contact surfaces with a polymeric or elastomeric material.
- the rubber-elastic sheathing of the sharp-edged stamped part reduces the risk of damage to the cable sheath in the area of the clamping point.
- mechanical vibrations in the area of the clamping point are also damped.
- This damping characteristic is particularly desirable if the cable is attached to a backplane, a so-called backplane, which can absorb mechanical vibrations in continuous operation only to a limited extent.
- the casing creates corrosion protection on the outside.
- the contact device according to the invention is preferably used in electrical devices, in particular in telecommunications systems.
- electrical devices in particular in telecommunications systems.
- systems of switching technology and in PBX systems are usually a variety of electrical cables reliably connect to the ground potential of a rack. Not only are these systems subject to a high level of screening requirements, but the ohmic resistance of the ground connection must be maintained at a low level over a comparatively long operating period.
- FIGS. 2 to 6 exemplary embodiments of the contact device according to the invention are reproduced.
- FIG. 1 shows first in a perspective view of a known contact device 1 for an electric cable 2 as it is commonly used in telecommunications equipment.
- the cable 2 connects in FIG. 1 external, not shown, main manifolds with various assemblies that are connected via a backplane and arranged in a housing.
- Such cables are usually made of insulated Single cores, which are twisted and which are surrounded by a common screen 9, for example: a coiled aluminum foil or a metallic braid.
- the screen 9 lies directly on the individual wires.
- the cable 2 protects a plastic jacket 8, which is usually made of PVC or rubber.
- the cable shield 9 prevents the interference of electromagnetic interference on the individual wires.
- the cable sheath 8 is stripped at one point.
- the stripping is usually done manually.
- the cable sheath 8 is opened and removed in a contacting area.
- the screen 9 of the cable 2 is thereby exposed.
- a cable clamp 6 is clamped around the film or the braid of the screen 9 and secured by means of a screw 7 electrically conductive to the backplane of the device.
- FIG. 2 is shown in a perspective view of a first embodiment of the invention.
- the illustration shows the contact device 1 in the assembled state.
- the contact part 3 is designed as a cable clamp 6.
- the contact elements 5, in the representation of FIG. 2 are not visible, pierce the jacket 8 of the cable 2 in a substantially radially inwardly directed thrust direction and establish an electrical contact with the screen 9 in the interior of the cable 2. Stripping the cable sheath is not required.
- the cable clamp 6 is clamped around the jacket 8 and fixed. By means of a screw connection 7, the attachment takes place on a support 11. In this way, not only a contact of the screen, but at the same time a strain relief of the cable is created.
- By concerns of the foot parts 17 and stops 18 it is ensured that the insulation of the individual wires 10 remains intact.
- FIG. 3 shows the cable clamp 6 in a non-mounted state without cables.
- border areas are punched claw-like.
- these claw-like Austanzungen are bent and have radially inward. They form the contact elements 5.
- They are formed in the illustrated embodiment in the form of cutting sprockets 15.
- the tips 13 of the cutting teeth 12 are formed by embossing a sheet metal stamped part.
- the ends of the contact part 3 each open into a foot part 17, which is provided with a bore through which the cable clamp 6 can be fastened by means of a screw connection.
- the contact elements 5 are designed so that they touch the screen 9 or slightly penetrate.
- the screen 9 touches or surrounds the tips 13 of the teeth 12. Since the contact is divided into several points and each point is sealed to the outside, reliable, long-term stable electrical contact between the cable clamp 6 and the screen 9 is achieved produced.
- FIG. 5 In the FIG. 5 is shown in a perspective view a cable clamp 6 with superimposed individual wires 10.
- the cutting teeth 12 of the front sprocket 15 are visible in the partially sectioned view.
- the height of a tooth 12 is marked H.
- the cable sheath has a thickness DM.
- the screen thickness is marked with the reference DS.

Description
US 4 696 908 bekannt.

- In
In
