Definitions
- the invention relates to hearing aids and methods of operation of hearing aids with a microphone system for recording an acoustic input signal and output a microphone output signal, a signal processing unit and an output transducer for outputting an output signal.
- the classification may include u.a. influence have on the operation of noise canceling algorithms as well as on the microphone system. For example selected depending on the detected hearing situation (discretely switched or continuously faded) between a omnidirectional directional characteristic (directional characteristic zeroth order) and a clear directivity of the microphone system (Directivity of first or higher order).
- a omnidirectional directional characteristic directional characteristic zeroth order
- a clear directivity of the microphone system Directivity of first or higher order.
- Such microphone systems show a frequency-dependent transmission behavior, in which a significant drop to low frequencies is recorded.
- the noise behavior of the microphones is frequency independent and slightly opposite to an omnidirectional microphone strengthened. To achieve a natural sound impression must be the high-pass frequency response of the microphone system be compensated by amplifying the low frequencies. This is the noise present in the low frequency range also reinforced and possibly clear and disturbing audible while silent sounds are obscured by the noise.
- DE 101 14 101 A1 discloses a method for processing an input signal in a signal processing unit of a Hearing aid known.
- the known hearing aid has in one Embodiment two microphones, wherein a microphone Delay element is connected, whose delay in Dependent on the result of a modulation analysis set is to signal processing and noise reduction to improve.
- a hearing aid is known with a Signal processing unit and at least two microphones, the different for the formation of directional microphone systems Order can be interconnected, with the directional microphone systems in turn, in the frequency of the Microphones emitted microphone signals dependent weighting interconnected with each other.
- the cutoff frequency between adjacent Frequency bands where a different Weighting of the microphone signals is provided set become.
- EP 0 942 627 A2 is a hearing aid with directional microphone system with a signal processing device, a handset and several microphones whose output signals for Generation of an individual directional microphone characteristic over Delay devices and the signal processing device interconnected in different weightings are.
- the preferred Receiving direction (main direction) in adaptation to a present hearing situation can be set individually.
- the microphone signal of the directional Microphones will be in the range of low signal frequencies in its Amplified amplitude and the microphone signal of the omnidirectional Aligned to microphones. Both the microphone signal of the omnidirectional microphones as well as the microphone signal of the Directional microphones are fed to a switching unit. In a first switching position of the switching unit is omnidirectional microphone and in a second switching position the switching unit the directional microphone with a hearing aid amplifier connected. The switching unit can be dependent on the signal level of a microphone signal automatically switch.
- a disadvantage of the known hearing aid devices with a directional microphone system is that in certain listening situations either the directivity of the microphone system is not optimally used or that a high degree of directivity becomes one clearly audible deterioration of the sound quality. In particular, deteriorates at a low level the acoustic input signal the signal-to-noise ratio, what happens with a hearing aid wearer in a quiet environment makes noticeable by a disturbing microphone noise.
- the object of the present invention is to improve the sound quality a hearing aid with a directional microphone system improve.
- the hearing aid according to the invention comprises a microphone system with at least two microphones, for directional characteristics to realize zeroth and first order. Preferably however, more than two microphones are present, so that Also directional characteristics of second and higher order possible are.
- the hearing aid device comprises a signal processing unit for processing and frequency-dependent Amplification of the microphone signal generated by the microphone system.
- the signal output is usually by an acoustic Output signal by means of a handset. But they are others, e.g. Vibrating output transducer known.
- a directional characteristic of zero order in the context of the invention is an omnidirectional directional characteristic to understand for example, a single, not with others Microphones interconnected omnidirectional microphone emerges.
- a microphone unit with a directional characteristic first order (directional microphone first order), for example through a single gradient microphone or the electric Interconnection of two omnidirectional microphones realized become.
- directional microphones of the first order is a theoretical one achievable maximum value of the Miniiviti Index (DI) of 6 dB (hypercardioid).
- DI Cosmeticiviti Index
- Directional microphones second and higher order have DI values of 10 dB and more, for example, for better speech intelligibility are advantageous. Does a hearing aid include a microphone system? with for example three omnidirectional microphones, so can be based on this by appropriate interconnection of the microphones simultaneously microphone units with directional characteristics zeroth to second order can be realized.
- a single omnidirectional microphone makes a difference Microphone unit zeroth order dar. Will with two omnidirectional Microphones delay the microphone signal of a microphone and subtracted from the microphone signal of the other microphone, This creates a first-order microphone unit. Becomes again with two microphone units of the first order the microphone signal delayed by a microphone unit and by the microphone signal the second microphone unit subtracted first order, this results in a microphone unit with directional characteristics second order. In this way can be - dependent on the number of omnidirectional microphones - microphone units realize any order.
- a microphone system include different microphone units Order, so can between different directional characteristics be switched over, e.g. by switching on or off one or more microphones. Furthermore, by a suitable electrical connection of the microphone units also any mixed forms between the directional characteristics different order are generated. For this purpose, the Microphone signals of the microphone units weighted differently and added before being in the signal processing unit the hearing aid is further processed and amplified. So can also be a continuous, smooth transition between different directional characteristics are realized, which avoids disturbing artifacts when switching to let.
- microphone signal delay is usually adjusted in one of the microphones emanating from the microphones to compensate for the propagation time of an acoustic input signal between the microphones' sound entry ports.
- the delay is chosen to be less than or equal to this runtime. If the delay is smaller than the external propagation delay between the sound entry ports of the microphones, this is also referred to as an "endfire array".
- endfire array For example, with KEMAR (a standardized artificial head) a directional value weighted with the articulation index can be used, for example, with a mixed form of first and second order (AI-DI) of up to 6.5 dB.
- this ratio between internal delay and external delay is increased significantly above 1, then this AI-DI value initially drops rapidly and then remains very robust with respect to component tolerances of the microphones and a further increase in the delay time at values of 4.5-5 dB , With increasing delay, however, the signal transmission behavior of the respective microphone unit changes in relation to sound signals incident from the main direction into the microphone unit.
- the main direction generally coincides at least approximately with the hearing aid worn with the straight-ahead viewing direction of the hearing aid wearer.
- Doubling the sum of the external propagation time and the internal delay D ext + D int results in an increase of the microphone output signal by approx. 6 dB in the range of low signal frequencies eg in a directional microphone of the first order, an increase of approx 12 dB, etc.
- the microphone noise generated by the microphones remains approximately the same.
- the signal-to-noise ratio can be controlled in directional microphone mode. If this adaptation is adaptively controlled as a function of the signal level of the acoustic input signal, a high signal-to-noise ratio can be achieved in a quiet environment with AI-DI values of 4.5-5 dB which are sufficient for these levels.
- the frequency response of a multi-microphone system according to the invention behaves in directional mode usually so, that at low levels of the acoustic input signal the heights are emphasized more, while in noisy environment as with an AGC (automatic gain control) the gain heights are automatically withdrawn.
- AGC automatic gain control
- a compensation filter be provided with which by the Compensate invention induced AGC effect.
- the adaptation of the internal delay time or the internal Delay times as a function of at least one microphone signal according to the invention can be done in discrete steps. Preferably, however, the adjustment is made continuously with sliding transitions, so through the scheme No switching artifacts are caused.
- An embodiment of the invention provides that the adjustment the delay of a microphone signal according to the invention not directly by the signal level of an acoustic Input signal is controlled, but by the signal level of the microphone output signal. For example, if an environmental situation before, when no or almost no useful signal is present from the direction of view of a hearing aid wearer, However, a relatively loud noise from the side or from the back, so would with a hearing aid according to the invention, when considering only the of an omnidirectional microphone recorded acoustic Input signal with a relatively strong directivity set an associated increased microphone noise become. Because in the situation described by the high Directivity the noise is almost hidden, can the hearing aid wearer perceived as annoying increased Microphone noise can be supplied. In case of consideration of the microphone system actually delivered Microphone signal would then be the directivity according to the invention be withdrawn until the microphone noise by the then less suppressed acoustic interference signal at least partially obscured.
- the invention offers the advantage that through this adaptive Controlling the Internal Delay of a Microphone Signal Signal-to-noise ratio of the higher order multi-microphone system (n ⁇ 1) depending on the signal level of the acoustic Input signal and possibly also in dependence of Direction of incidence of the acoustic input signal controlled becomes. This is especially useful with quiet input signals a perceived as disturbing, high microphone noise avoid.
- the invention can be used in all known hearing aid types be applied with an adjustable directional microphone, for example for hearing aids worn behind the ear, in ear hearing aids, implantable hearing aids or pocket hearing aids.
- the hearing aid according to the invention also part of a plurality of devices for the care of a hard hearing aid comprehensive hearing aid system be, e.g. Part of a hearing aid system with two am Head worn hearing aids for binaural care or Part of a hearing aid system, consisting of one on the head portable device and a wearable processor unit.
- FIG. 1 shows a schematic diagram of a hearing aid with a directional microphone system according to the invention.
- the microphone system includes three omnidirectional microphones 1, 2 and 3.
- the emanating from the microphone 2 microphone signal is in a Delay unit 4A delayed by an inverter 5A inverted and in a summer 6A to that of the microphone 1 outgoing microphone signal R0 added.
- the two Omni-directional microphones 1 and 2 thereby form a Microphone unit 1, 2 with directivity of first order, from which the microphone signal R1 starts.
- the microphone 3 outgoing microphone signal in a delay unit 4B delayed, inverted by an inverter 5B and in a summer 6B to that emanating from the microphone 2 Microphone signal added.
- the microphones 2 and 3 form thereby a microphone unit 2, 3 with directional characteristics first order, whose microphone signal at the output of the summer 6B is present.
- the microphone unit 2, 3 outgoing microphone signal in a delay unit 7 delayed and inverted in an inverter 8 and in one Totalizer 9 to that of the microphone unit 1, 2 outgoing Microphone signal R1 added it arises from the microphones 1, 2 and 3 a microphone system 1, 2, 3 with directional characteristics second order, whose microphone signal R2 at the output of the summer 9 is present.
- the three microphone signals R0, R1 and R2 are finally one Circuit and filter unit 10 supplied in the between the different microphone signals R0, R1 and R2 switched or in which the microphone signals R0, R1 and R2 are weighted and added differently.
- the resulting and at the output of the circuit and filter unit 10 output microphone output RA finally becomes a Signal processing unit 11 is supplied in the further processing and frequency dependent amplification of the microphone output signal RA to compensate for the individual hearing loss a hearing aid wearer takes place.
- a level measuring and control device 13 is provided, the microphone signal R0 of the omnidirectional microphone 1 is supplied. This microphone signal changes the signal level of the currently occurring in the microphone 1 acoustic Input signal detected. From this signal level are in the Level measuring and control device 13 Parameters for setting the delay in the delay units 4A, 4B and 7, whereby influenced according to the invention, the directivity and possibly the microphone noise can be reduced.
- a microphone noise are perceived, preferably in addition to audiometric Hearing aid wearer data (rest hearing threshold, masking threshold) also takes into account current hearing aid settings. These settings also apply in particular the microphone system. For example, is there an environmental situation with a high Störschallanteil, so is by evaluation of the microphone signal R0 at the input of the microphone system detected a high signal level of the acoustic input signal. It is possible, however, that in this environmental situation by a high, set in the microphone system Directivity the noise signal is largely suppressed, causing the hearing aid wearer's hearing is only a relative quiet output signal is supplied. At this output signal The microphone noise can then quite a clearly perceptible share.
- the adjustment of the delay times according to the invention preferably also taking into account the microphone signals, which emanate from a microphone unit with directivity.
- these are the microphone signals R1 and R2.
- the evaluation of the output is also the circuit and filter unit 10 adjacent and the signal processing unit 11 fed for further processing Microphone output signal RA possible. From this signal can taking into account the hearing aid characteristics and - Settings are determined directly, which signal level the hearing of the hearing aid wearer at the current acoustic Input signal is actually fed and which Share in the microphone noise takes.
- the microphone output signal has a high signal level on, on which the microphone noise only a small Share, so can all three delay units 4A, 4B and 7 set relatively short delay times which increases the directivity and the Störschallanteil suppressed in the acoustic input signal becomes.
- the depths lowered and raised the heights.
- the level measuring and control device 13 also acts on the circuit and filter unit 10, so that by suitable Filter settings the last mentioned effects be largely compensated.
- the invention thus offers a possibility in one quiet listening environment the setting of the directional microphone system to change so that a clearly audible and disturbing Microphone noise is prevented. On the other hand, however In a noisy listening environment, the benefits of a directional microphone system fully utilized.
- the hearing aid according to the embodiment is furthermore advantageously an electrical connection between the level measuring and control device 13 and the signal processing unit 11. So can the evaluation of the microphone signal or the Mirkofonsignale in the level measuring and control device 13 also to an automatic situation detection and thus an adaptive control of the signal processing serve in the signal processing unit 11.
- hearing programs can also be provided in the signal processing unit 11 Manually set for different listening environments be a part of these programs Influencing the delay times provided according to the invention but not for others. Therefore is also one Signal transmission from the signal processing unit 11 to the level measuring and control unit 13 is provided.
- the signal processing in the hearing aid according to the embodiment can be in analog, digital or in combined Circuit technology done. Furthermore, the signal processing also in parallel in adjoining frequency bands (Channels). Preferably also takes place the adjustment of the directional characteristic of the microphone system in frequency bands.
- a first characteristic A is the signal transmission behavior a directional microphone system at a certain Setting the signal delay in the delay units of the directional microphone system. It is the internal delay less than the external life of a from the front (view glare) incident in the microphone system acoustic signal, the microphones (or their Sound inlet openings) arranged in the direction behind the other are.
- the microphone signals further processed together can be integrated with the Articulation Index weighted directivity value AI-DI of up to Reach 6.5.
- the characteristic shows the typical high-pass behavior of a Directional microphone system of higher order.
- the transfer characteristic A is in particular in a loud Adjusted listening environment.
- the microphone noise remains approximately constant. Although it decreases due to the internal signal delay the AI-DI value initially, but it remains even with a further increase in the internal delay at values of 4.5 - 5dB, which is still a relative one good directivity means. Overall, that can be done with it the internal, electrically adjustable delay times the signal-to-noise ratio in directional microphone operation Taxes.
