Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for improving the safety of air traffic in a commercial aircraft and methods using the device.
  • Air traffic is increasingly under attack by rioting passengers and also terrorist attacks. For example, those incidents in which access to the sensitive cockpit area is enforced are particularly at risk.
  • armed flight attendants who are incognito among the passengers, cannot effectively protect the cockpit in special cases such as taking hostages and several assassins.
  • the cockpit must have access to the cabin so that authorized persons can enter and leave the cockpit at any time without hindrance.
  • the invention has for its object to provide security measures for the cockpit area, which achieve effective protection against unauthorized intrusion of people into the cockpit. Accessibility to the cockpit for authorized persons must be guaranteed.
  • Claims 12 and 13 propose methods for improving security.

  • This partitionable area 2 ' is reached by the controllable and, if necessary, automatic access doors 25 and 26.
  • the security zone 2' thus functions as a security gate.

  • both access doors 25 and 26 are first kept closed before takeoff, while passengers enter security zone 2 'individually via access door 21. • Other embodiments are also possible. It should be possible to open and close manually at the push of a button, via motion detectors or using known sensors. As an example, it is proposed to monitor the security zone 2 'and the room in front of the door 26 (on the cabin side) by means of TV sensors 24 and 31, the pilots using a monitor in the Cockpit about the people in front of and in the security zone 2 'are informed. The doors 25 and 26 can then be opened or closed at the push of a button.
  • the respectively opened door closes automatically after the passage of people by means of light barriers 27 or 32, as is known, for example, with lift doors.

If a hazard occurs and unauthorized persons enter security zone 2 ', the pilot can close all doors so that any threatening people are locked in security zone 2'.
  • a certain dose of anesthetic or gas can be expelled into the atmosphere of the security zone 2 'or the oxygen supply can be interrupted.
  • an effective sealing of this area 2 'must be ensured at least with respect to the cockpit and also with respect to the passenger cabin.
  • the pilots are constantly informed about the state or behavior of the people in the security zone 2 'via the installed monitoring sensors 24 and 31.
  • Video cameras 24, 31, which are connected to a monitoring monitor in cockpit 1, can be used as components of the monitoring sensor system.
  • a decision about the actual access to the cockpit 1 through the door 25 and about the presence of persons in the security zone 2 'can preferably be left to the pilots and can be achieved, for example, by means of a central locking system, controllable from the cockpit 1.
  • the proposed device largely prevents unauthorized persons from entering the cockpit and overriding the function of the pilots or operational components. Even in the event of a terrorist attack, if there is a hostage-taking or a threat of violence, the pilots in cockpit 1 are protected and can control the most appropriate course for a possible rescue. In order to increase the chance of liberation after landing in such a scenario, it is provided as a further embodiment of the invention that the pilots blow off the exit doors and / or emergency exits and the emergency slides from the protected cockpit 1 via an emergency switch (not shown in the drawing) activate. This not only offers passengers the option of rapid evacuation, but also the alarmed security forces can intervene from the ground. In order to avoid an erroneous triggering of the evacuation system in flight, a ground clearance sensor or other measures are to be provided, which only allow the evacuation system to be released when the aircraft is standing on the ground.
