Abstract
The invention relates to a device for improving security in an aircraft during the operation of air traffic. The invention is characterised in that a security zone (2'), which can be sealed off by controllable access doors (25, 26) and monitored by sensors (24, 31), is provided between the passenger cabin (3) and cockpit (1) areas. The invention also relates to methods for improving security during the operation of air traffic, using said device. The advantage of the invention is that the penetration of the cockpit by unauthorised persons, who could neutralise the functions of the pilot or operational components, can be prevented. Even in the case of a serious threat or a terrorist attack, involving the taking of hostages or a threat with the use of violence, the pilots in the cockpit are protected effectively.
Description
The invention relates to a device for improving the safety of air traffic in a commercial aircraft and methods using the device.
Air traffic is increasingly under attack by rioting passengers and also terrorist attacks. For example, those incidents in which access to the sensitive cockpit area is enforced are particularly at risk. Various technical and personnel safety precautions exist to protect the cockpit, but in practice these have often proven to be insufficient. As an example, it should be mentioned that armed flight attendants, who are incognito among the passengers, cannot effectively protect the cockpit in special cases such as taking hostages and several assassins. On the other hand, it is also not possible to hermetically separate the cockpit from the passenger cabin, for example by a partition. Of course, for operational reasons, the cockpit must have access to the cabin so that authorized persons can enter and leave the cockpit at any time without hindrance. For example, when pilots have to check cabin facilities or when flight attendants bring food and keep the information exchange with the pilots. Accordingly, the invention has for its object to provide security measures for the cockpit area, which achieve effective protection against unauthorized intrusion of people into the cockpit. Accessibility to the cockpit for authorized persons must be guaranteed.
This object is achieved with the measures specified in claim 1.
It is particularly advantageous that security in air traffic operations is improved with such a measure. No unauthorized persons can enter the cockpit and override the function of the pilots or operational components. Even in the event of a terrorist attack, if there is a hostage-taking or a threat of violence, the pilots in the cockpit are effectively protected and have gained time to take protective measures against possible terrorists.
Claims 12 and 13 propose methods for improving security.
In the subclaims 2 to 11 and in subclaim 14, further refinements and developments of the invention are specified. Details and further advantages result from the following description of an embodiment of the invention.
Es zeigen:The invention is described below using an exemplary embodiment and shown in the drawing. Show it:
Fig. 1a die Draufsicht undFig. 1a the top view and
Fig. 1 b die Seitenansicht des vorderen Teils eines Verkehrsflugzeug-Rumpfes,1 b shows the side view of the front part of a commercial aircraft fuselage,
Fig. 2 is a top view of the embodiment of the partitionable security zone according to the invention in a schematic representation.
In the cockpit area 1, pilot seats 11 and additional seats 12, such as for pilot trainers, are arranged. In the cockpit floor there is an access flap 13 to the avionics compartment underneath. In addition to the avionics panel 14 and the center console 15, cockpit 1 also contains other operationally important devices that are not explained in more detail here (e.g. panels for electrical, hydraulic, and air conditioning systems). The drawing also shows a pilot relaxation room 16 integrated into the cockpit 1, which can optionally be installed for long-distance operation. The cockpit 1 is usually accessed via a lockable cockpit door 17, which, however, is not sufficient as the sole securing device, as practice shows.
Directly adjacent to the cockpit is the boarding area 2 as the foremost part of the passenger cabin 3 with boarding doors 21 and internals 22, which are usually designed as galleys and toilets. A certain separation of the area 2 from the cabin 3 is usually achieved by a kind of folding door or curtain 23, which, however, serves more optical than security purposes. For example, cabin staff should be provided with a privacy screen when preparing meals.
Damit erhält die Sicherheitszone 2' die Funktion einer Sicherheitsschleuse.1b shows a side view of the longitudinal section through the front fuselage with the areas cockpit 1, entrance 2 and passenger cabin 3 of the aircraft shown in FIG. 1a. 2, the design of the security zone 2 'according to the invention is shown hatched, which essentially uses the previous entry area 2 in terms of area and does not require any additional space. This partitionable area 2 'is reached by the controllable and, if necessary, automatic access doors 25 and 26. The security zone 2' thus functions as a security gate.
The access doors 25 and 26 can be designed as sliding doors, folding doors, roller shutter doors or conventional swing doors, with appropriate materials for solid, explosion-proof and bullet-proof doors being selected on account of the safety aspects.
The individual functions of the facility can be described as follows:
Before the start, the passengers normally enter with the doors 21 and 26 open, while the door 25 to the cockpit 1 remains closed.
If necessary, both access doors 25 and 26 are first kept closed before takeoff, while passengers enter security zone 2 'individually via access door 21. After the check, the access door 26 to the cabin is opened and closed again behind the passing passenger. This method can be used in particular if the ground handling has security deficiencies.
To ensure the lock function, it is proposed according to the invention to design the doors 25 and 26 in a space-saving design as automatic sliding doors. Other embodiments are also possible. It should be possible to open and close manually at the push of a button, via motion detectors or using known sensors. As an example, it is proposed to monitor the security zone 2 'and the room in front of the door 26 (on the cabin side) by means of TV sensors 24 and 31, the pilots using a monitor in the Cockpit about the people in front of and in the security zone 2 'are informed. The doors 25 and 26 can then be opened or closed at the push of a button.
It is also conceivable that the respectively opened door closes automatically after the passage of people by means of light barriers 27 or 32, as is known, for example, with lift doors. In order to avoid an additional burden on pilots, it is also possible to provide the cabin crew with special means of actuating the door for opening the cabin door 26, for example a touch pad, a chip card or other means for electronically recognizing body features (“electronic thumbprint” or “electronic eyes”) - or face detection "). If a hazard occurs and unauthorized persons enter security zone 2 ', the pilot can close all doors so that any threatening people are locked in security zone 2'. In order to render them temporarily harmless, a certain dose of anesthetic or gas can be expelled into the atmosphere of the security zone 2 'or the oxygen supply can be interrupted. For such measures, an effective sealing of this area 2 'must be ensured at least with respect to the cockpit and also with respect to the passenger cabin. The pilots are constantly informed about the state or behavior of the people in the security zone 2 'via the installed monitoring sensors 24 and 31. Video cameras 24, 31, which are connected to a monitoring monitor in cockpit 1, can be used as components of the monitoring sensor system. A decision about the actual access to the cockpit 1 through the door 25 and about the presence of persons in the security zone 2 'can preferably be left to the pilots and can be achieved, for example, by means of a central locking system, controllable from the cockpit 1.
In summary, it can be stated that the proposed device largely prevents unauthorized persons from entering the cockpit and overriding the function of the pilots or operational components. Even in the event of a terrorist attack, if there is a hostage-taking or a threat of violence, the pilots in cockpit 1 are protected and can control the most appropriate course for a possible rescue. In order to increase the chance of liberation after landing in such a scenario, it is provided as a further embodiment of the invention that the pilots blow off the exit doors and / or emergency exits and the emergency slides from the protected cockpit 1 via an emergency switch (not shown in the drawing) activate. This not only offers passengers the option of rapid evacuation, but also the alarmed security forces can intervene from the ground. In order to avoid an erroneous triggering of the evacuation system in flight, a ground clearance sensor or other measures are to be provided, which only allow the evacuation system to be released when the aircraft is standing on the ground.
