Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for immobilizing solid, liquid and / or pasty residues from the combustion and from the exhaust gas cleaning following the combustion, in particular from plants for the thermal treatment of waste.
- JP 8-309310 A discloses the treatment of fly ash from incinerators which contains heavy metals.
- the fly ash is mixed with an aqueous mineral acid solution and a pH value of less than or equal to 4 is set, the heavy metals being eluted.
- a pH value of less than or equal to 4 is set, the heavy metals being eluted.
- iron ions an oxidation reaction and a subsequent precipitation reaction, the heavy metals are converted into a precipitation product with iron hydroxide and finally bound as ferrite by adding an alkaline substance.
- the object of the invention is to avoid the disadvantages mentioned in the landfilling of insufficiently treated residues and to develop a method for immobilizing solid, liquid and / or pasty residues from the combustion and from the exhaust gas purification following the combustion, which the goals and principles of future-oriented waste economy met with economically reasonable costs.
- the wet chemical treatment at basic pH values partially elutes harmful substances from the residues and deliberately changes the hydraulic and mineralogical properties; Furthermore, gas formation from metallic residues (e.g. aluminum) is promoted, so that the reaction product from the wet chemical treatment can be subjected to the further immobilization steps after it has been dewatered.
- This is achieved in particular by adjusting the pH in the range from 8 to 13, preferably in the range from 11.5 to 12.5, in order to ensure that the gas formation potential from the reaction of metallic compounds is reduced.
- the wet chemical treatment can be carried out with the addition of lye, preferably in the form of alkaline residues or waste, it being possible to use electrochemical processes in addition to improve the chemical reaction in point b).
- the method according to the invention also fulfills the guidelines for waste management, published by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Teen and Family in 1988, according to which a future-oriented waste economy includes comprehensive treatment of waste, so that ultimately only "earth crust-like" residues are deposited.
- the following properties are to be understood: insoluble or permanently poorly soluble
- An environmentally compatible disposal of solid, liquid and / or pasty residues from the combustion as well as from the exhaust gas cleaning following the combustion thus includes:
- gases generated during the wet chemical treatment according to point b) can be flared, stored or recycled, preferably for energy use in the incineration plant or in an external plant.
- the amount of the filtrate recirculated in point d) can advantageously be 3: 1 to 20: 1, depending on the solids content in the wet chemical treatment and the water content in the mechanically dewatered reaction product, based on the amount of waste supplied to the wet chemical treatment. It works on the basis of a closed water balance and additional process water required is advantageously fed from the incineration plant (e.g. thin sludge from wastewater treatment)
- the filtrate to be returned is subjected to intermediate treatment, for example for the chemical precipitation of dissolved heavy metals.
- intermediate treatment of the filtrate to be recycled can be carried out using organosulfidic compounds, for example TMT 15.
- the mechanically dewatered reaction product with the addition of mineral or inorganic auxiliaries and other suitable residues and wastes can be processed to landfill that can be deposited.
- dry materials are preferably used for the dewatered reaction product and, if required, wastewater is also used to adjust the optimum moisture for the controlled installation and compaction on the landfill (e.g. reaching the optimal density of the process).
- wastewater is also used to adjust the optimum moisture for the controlled installation and compaction on the landfill (e.g. reaching the optimal density of the process).
- gravel washing sludge can be added.
- the required amount of water can be covered by using any contaminated rainwater that occurs in the area where the landfill is installed, as well as any seepage water that may still be squeezed out during the compression process.
- the wet chemical treatment 2 is carried out of residues that cannot be deposited directly or are not suitable for producing landfill material (e.g. ash) while setting a basic pH value, if necessary in combination or in addition to electrochemical treatment.
- the gases obtained in the wet chemical treatment 2 in particular hydrogen, and possibly other gases such as ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, methane and phosphine are preferably fed to the incinerator in area 1 for energy use or a gas storage 3, or used in an external system for energy purposes (e.g. gas engine) or disposed of (e.g. gas torch).
- gases obtained in the wet chemical treatment 2 in particular hydrogen, and possibly other gases such as ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, methane and phosphine are preferably fed to the incinerator in area 1 for energy use or a gas storage 3, or used in an external system for energy purposes (e.g. gas engine) or disposed of (e.g. gas torch).
- Waste water concentrates or thin sludge from waste water purification for example from wet waste gas purification, can be fed to wet chemical treatment 2. This is necessary in view of the total water balance and the replacement for the moisture discharged onto the landfill body 5 via the production of the landfill material 4 and is advantageous compared to the use of fresh water.
- the mechanical dewatering 6 of the suspension from the wet chemical treatment 2 is preferably carried out using filter presses or other devices, advantageously together or alternately with other residues from the same system.
- the filtrate obtained in the mechanical dewatering 6 is returned to the wet chemical treatment 2, if appropriate after a chemical intermediate treatment 7 by means of precipitants, for example organosulfides for the precipitation and separation of dissolved heavy metals.
- precipitants for example organosulfides for the precipitation and separation of dissolved heavy metals.
- the amount of filtrate returned is based on a closed water balance, with additional water advantageously being supplied from area 1 of the incineration plant (for example thin sludge from wastewater treatment).
- the dewatered residues from the mechanical dewatering 6 are combined with residues from the incineration plant 1 that can be deposited directly, with mineral auxiliaries and / or other solid, pasty or liquid residues from external plants, e.g. processed according to the principle of "diagenetic inerting" (AT 389 474 B) into a depositable mass or landfill material (see production of landfill material 4).
- the landfill goods produced according to the appropriate recipe are stored indefinitely in accordance with the legal requirements, preferably on surface landfills 5 or for the filling of underground cavities by mining technology.
- the slightly occurring leachate (from the area of the installation site 8 and any squeezed water from the landfill material) can be used in the production of the landfill material 4 if required.
