Abstract

The tile, designed to be fixed to roof battens, is made with two stepped sections - an upper section (7) with lateral interlocking channels (10), and a lower section (8) that overlaps the lateral edges of the tile in the row beneath. The front edge (11) of the lower section projects downwards to overlap the front edges of adjacent tiles on either side. The tile can be made in flat, ridged and curved versions.

Description

The present invention relates to an interlocking tile.

In the field of interlocking tiles commonly used for roofing of buildings, a recurring problem that arises is the resistance to pulling by the wind.

Traditionally, interlocking tiles have an upper edge called "leading edge", a lower edge called "tail edge", two side edges, an upper surface that can have different shapes or reliefs, and a lower surface generally provided with tenons or blocks directed downwards, which are used to attach the tile on the battens or battens of the frame.

Known tiles usually comprise a system of upwardly concave grooves which are disposed along the leading edge and along a first side edge, and also include a downwardly directed flange system. arranged along the tail edge and the second side edge of the tile.

The tail edge of a tile overlies the head groove of the lower row tile with respect to the roof slope direction, and the side edge overlies the lateral groove of the adjacent tile. Thus, for a given tile, there is an overlap on two edges: the leading edge of the tile, and one of its lateral edges.

It appeared that when the roof is subjected to a strong wind, during a violent storm or during a storm, and particularly when the direction of the wind is substantially contrary to the slope of the roof or when it blows sideways by attacking each tile on the side of its uncoated side edge, the risk of tearing tiles is important. Indeed, the angle of the tile which is common to the two uncoated edges, is a point of low resistance to lifting since no weight is applied to this angle.

To counter this disadvantage, solutions have been made. Thus, tiles have been proposed which include a hooking system on the battens or battens, at the angle common to the uncovered edges of the tile. Such attachment can be achieved by nailing with a point which passes through the tile from side to side, whose head rests on the upper surface of the tile and whose tip is stuck in the batten or the tread supporting the tile. The attachment can also be achieved by pannetonage, that is to say by means of a hook or a loop located at the lower surface of the tile in the region of the angle not covered with said tile, and which is fixed on the battens or battens supporting the tile.

Une tuile à emboîtements selon le préambule de la revendication 1 est décrite dans DE 539600 C .An interlocking tile according to the preamble of claim 1 is described in DE 539600 C .

In all cases, these solutions are not entirely satisfactory because they require a tedious implementation, and therefore expensive in manpower.

The main objective of the present invention is to provide a tile that is very resistant to wind-stripping and avoids the disadvantages mentioned above.

This objective is achieved with a nesting tile to be laid and fixed on battens or battens for the realization of a roof, comprising an upper surface, a lower surface, a leading edge, a tail edge and edges laterally, the tile further comprising two parts having substantially the same length, namely:
  1. (i) a generally tray-shaped upper water-receiving portion of the upper row of tiles, having upwardly facing interlockings, along its leading edge and both of its side edges, and
  2. (ii) a lower portion located substantially in the extension of the upper part and laterally bordered by two overlapping portions of the lateral interlockings of the upper part of the tiles close to the lower row, the tail edge of the tile having a covering interlocking two neighboring tiles, substantially mid-length thereof, and the tile of the lower row in its interlocking head, the width of the lower part of the tile being greater than the width of the upper part.

Advantageously, the lower part of the tile according to the invention is shifted downwards, in its entirety or only in its central zone, with respect to the upper part.

According to a first embodiment of the invention, it is a flat tile or slightly curved, generally rectangular shape.

The examples in Figures 1,2,3 and 6 are not covered by the claims and are presented not as embodiments of the invention, but as examples useful for understanding the invention.

The tile 1 shown in Figure 1, has a leading edge 2 and a tail edge 3, which correspond to the short sides of the tile, and two side edges 4. It has a lower face 5, and an upper face 6 most of which is an apparent surface 6 when multiple tiles are assembled to form a cover.

The tile 1 according to the invention is a flat tile or slightly curved, intended to be fixed according to the rules of the art to battens (or flights) of a frame, to form a roof.

It is made of any material suitable for this purpose, for example composites, but more generally terracotta (clay or other), molded and then fired at high temperature according to methods known to those skilled in the art.

In order to solve the tearing resistance problems set forth in the preamble, the interlocking tile 1, as shown in FIGS. 1 or 2, comprises two parts having substantially the same length, namely:
  1. (i) an upper, generally tray-shaped upper water-receiving portion 7 of the upper row of tiles with upwardly-facing interlockings, along its leading edge 2 and both of its lateral edges 4, and
  2. (ii) a lower part 8 located substantially in the extension of the upper part 7 and laterally bordered by two overlapping portions 11 of the lateral interlockings 10 of the upper part 7 of the tiles close to the lower row, the tail edge 3 of the tile 1 having a covering interlock 10 of the two neighboring tiles, substantially mid-length thereof, and the lower row of tiles in its head socket 2.

The lower part 8 of the tile 1 is offset downward with respect to the upper part 7, thus creating two upper and lower levels, separated by a "step nose" 12, disposed transversely about half the length of the tile .

The tile 1 may be flat, of generally rectangular shape.

When multiple tiles are assembled, as shown in Figure 2, they overlap so that one tile gives the appearance of two tiles. In addition, since a tile is rectangular, the interlocking zones 10 of the upper part 7 reduce the apparent surface of this upper part 7, so when several tiles are in place on a roof, and even if they are rectangular and arranged behind the others as shown in Figure 2, at the corners of each tile correspond not four adjacent tiles, but only three adjacent tiles. Thus the overlaps of one tile to another are reduced, and therefore infiltration problems are reduced as well.

Sealing is also improved by the fact that the joining zones are made between three tiles instead of four tiles usually.

The upper 7 and lower 8 portions of the tile 1 may be flat, as shown in Figures 1 or 2.

The upper 7 and lower 8 parts of the tile 1 may comprise at least one upwardly open concavity 13 defining at least one corresponding channel 13, the axis of which is oriented along the slope of the roof, as illustrated in FIG. .

Alternatively, but similarly, while maintaining a generally flat tile plan, the upper 7 and lower 8 portions of the tile 1 may comprise a series of grooves and / or ribs whose axes are oriented according to the slope of the roof.

According to the invention, the width of the lower part 8 of the tile is greater than the width of the upper part 7, as shown in FIGS. 4, 5, 7 and 8.

Thus, the tile according to the invention shown in FIG. 4 comprises a lower portion 8 of greater width than that of the upper portion 7. In addition, a rib 14 with an essentially aesthetic purpose is formed along the longitudinal axis of the tile, in the middle part of the lower part 8, so that the upper surface 6 of the tile once laid out shows three tiles instead of one, as shown in Figure 5. As explained above such a tile structure makes it possible to cover the same given surface with three times less tiles than with the tiles known in the prior art. Thus, the introduction and removal are easier, so require less labor and are less expensive. Finally, for a given roof surface, fewer tiles are necessary to achieve the coverage, so there is less overlap between tiles, and therefore less risk of infiltration.

According to an alternative of the invention, the upper 7 and lower 8 parts of the tile 1 are flat, as is illustrated in FIGS. 4, 5 or 7. As shown in FIG. 7, the lateral edges 4 of the part lower 8 of the tile may then comprise arches 15 whose convexity is directed towards the top of the tile, and whose axis coincides with the longitudinal axis of the tile. These arches 15 serve as overlapping portions 11 of the lateral interlocking zones of the upper parts of the tiles close to the lower row.

According to another alternative - not shown - of the invention, the upper 7 and lower 8 parts of the tile 1 comprise a concavity 13 open upward defining a channel 13 whose axis is oriented along the slope of the roof. In a manner similar to the alternative described above, the lower part 8 can then comprise, along its lateral edges 4, arches whose convexity is directed towards the top of the tile, and whose axis coincides with the longitudinal axis of the tile, as shown in Figure 8.

In all the embodiments of the invention described above, the angle of inclination of the tile 1, when it is in place on the roof, is preferably between 7 ° and 70 ° with respect to the horizontal.

From the foregoing, it appears that whatever the preferred embodiment of the present invention, three of the four edges of the tile are always covered by adjacent tiles, and the side edges are covered over at least half their length. . Thus, the stability of the tile and its resistance to tearing by the wind are increased, especially when it is rotating or blowing against the slope of the roof, because no corner of the tile is common to two uncovered edges .

In addition to its excellent ability to withstand wind stripping, the tile according to the present invention can effectively prevent water infiltration especially when the rains are accompanied by a strong wind side or counter slope of the roof.
