Description

Die Erfindung betrifft einen Filter für einen rauchbaren Artikel, insbesondere für eine Zigarette, wobei in den Umfang des Filters Rillen eingedrückt sind. Solche Filter sind in verschiedenen Ausführungsformen bekannt.
So geht aus der DE 33 04 763 A1 ein Zigarettenfilter mit einem zylindrischen Filterkörper, mit einer luftdurchlässigen Umhüllung für den Filterkörper und mit in den Umfang des Filterkörpers eingedrückten Rillen hervor, die sich, ausgehend vom mundseitigen Ende des Filters, über einen Teil der Filterlänge erstrecken. Der zylindrische Filterkörper und damit auch die Rillen werden durch ein luftdurchlässiges Belagpapier, das mit Ventilationsöffnungen versehen ist, an dem Tabakstrang angebracht. Dieser Filter soll einen unkomplizierten Aufbau haben und einen im Wesentlichen normalen Druckabfall über die Zigarette erreichen.
Aus der DE 30 11 959 C2 geht ein Zigarettenfilter mit einem ähnlichen Aufbau hervor, wobei jedoch die Umfangsfläche des Filterkörpers einschließlich der Wände der Rillen undurchlässig ausgebildet sind. Auch hier sind die Rillen zum mundseitigen Ende des Filterkörpers hin offen. In den Figuren 2, 3 und 5 werden Ausführungsformen gezeigt, bei denen zusätzlich noch tabakseitig offene Rillen vorgesehen sind.
Durch diesen Filter soll bei Beibehaltung der hohen Verminderung der unerwünschten Rauchinhaltstoffe und der guten Verarbeitbarkeit auf üblichen Zigarettenmaschinen eine intensive, nach Tabak schmeckende Zigarette entstehen.
Die DE 36 01 959 A zeigt eine weitere Modifikation eines solchen Filters, bei dem ebenfalls die Rillen zum mundseitigen Ende des Filters hin offen sind. Außerdem ist wenigstens eine Perforation im Bereich der Rille zum Einleiten von Luft durch die Umhüllung in den Filterkörper vorgesehen. Dadurch soll ein Filter mit einer verbesserten Lufteinteilung in den Filterstab bereitgestellt werden.
Dazu trägt eine Umhüllung aus undurchlässigem Material bei, die einen luftdurchlässigen Bereich aufweist. Das Belagpapier ist undurchlässig, jedoch mit Ventilationsöffnungen versehen.
Weiterhin zeigt die DE-PS 21 07 850 ein Filtermundstück, dessen Umfang mit Längsrillen versehen ist. Ein Filterumhüllungspapier wird nicht erwähnt, und die Rillen sind bevorzugt zum Mundende des Filters hin offen.
Aus der DE 31 43 965 C2 geht ein Zigarettenfilter mit Rillen hervor, die weder zum Tabak noch zum Mundende hin offen sind, sich also nur über die Mitte des Filterkörpers erstrecken. Jede Rille ist mit einer Öffnung versehen, so dass Belüftungsluft in Längsrichtung des Filterstabes in Richtung auf das Mundende gelenkt wird. Dadurch soll auf einfache Weise Außenluft mit hoher Geschwindigkeit in den Zigarettenfilter eingeführt werden, ohne dass die Gefahr des Verschließens durch Lippendruck bzw. Druckabfall besteht.
Die DE 31 43 964 A1 zeigt einen ähnlichen Zigarettenfilter mit einer rauchundurchlässigen Umhüllung des Filterkörpers und mit einem sich axial durch den Filterkörper erstreckenden, zentralen Rohr, das in Strömungsverbindung mit der Öffnung in den Rillen steht. Dadurch soll der aus dem Tabakstrang austretende Rauch in zwei Teile aufgeteilt werden. Ein Teil strömt über das zentrale Rohr, und der andere Teil strömt durch das Filtermaterial.
Weiterhin geht aus der DE 30 48 905 A1 ein Zigarettenfilter mit einer luftundurchlässigen Umhüllung für den Filterkern und mit Rillen in dem Umfang des Filterkerns hervor, die sich über die ganze Länge des Filterkerns erstrecken. Dieser Filter lässt sich leichter herstellen, da eine Produktionsrichtungsänderung entfällt.
Aus der DE 32 25 091 C2 ist ein Filter für Tabakrauch bekannt, in dessen Umfang Rillen angeordnet sind, die durch ein gewelltes Material um den eigentlichen Filter erzeugt werden. Die Umhüllung des Filterkerns ist rauchundurchlässig, wobei die Rillen an mindestens einem Ende des Filters offen sind, das Belagpapier ist rauchundurchlässig und weist Ventilationsöffnungen auf. Dieses Filterelement soll vielseitig und flexibel verwendbar sein.
Die GB 2 089 641 A zeigt einen Filter für eine Zigarette mit einem zentralen, hohlen Rohr, das sich von einem Ende des Filters aus in das Filtermaterial hinein erstreckt. Der Filterkern ist von einer nicht-porösen Umhüllung umgeben, und der Filterkörper und die Umhüllung haben wenigstens eine Rille, die sich longitudinal von einem Ende des Filterkörpers erstreckt. Dadurch soll ein normaler Druckabfall über die Zigarette für einen Filter mit niedrigem bis mäßigem Wirkungsgrad erreicht werden.
Weiterhin zeigt die GB 2 136 669 A einen Zigarettenfilter mit einem Filterkörper, der von einem rauchdurchlässigen Material umgeben ist. Der Filter hat longitudinale Wellungen, die außerhalb der rauchdurchlässigen Umhüllung Rillen bilden, die an einem Ende des Filters offen sind und sich in Längsrichtung von diesem Ende zu dem anderen Ende hin erstrecken, jedoch nicht über die gesamte Länge des Filterkörpers. Die Umhüllung trägt Mittel, nämlich eine Beschichtung, die sie über einen Bereich, der sich nur teilweise über die Länge der Rillen erstreckt, rauchundurchlässig machen und von dem zugehörigen Ende des Filters einen gewellten Bereich der Umhüllung abtrennen, der rauchdurchlässig ist.
Weiterhin geht aus der GB 2 095 093 A ein Filter mit einem Filterkörper mit einer nicht-porösen Umhüllung und mit Rillen hervor, die sich von einem Ende des Filters aus eine bestimmte Strecke in Richtung auf das andere Ende des Filters erstrecken. Die Rillen können zur Atmosphäre hin offen und so ausgerichtet sein, dass sie sich bis zum Mundende des Filters oder zum Tabakende des Filters erstrecken. Auch die abwechselnde Anordnung von Rillen, die am mundseitigen Ende und am tabakseitigen Ende beginnen, ist möglich. Durch diesen Filter soll ein hoher Wirkungsgrad für die Entfernung des Kondensats aus dem Tabakrauch bei einem akzeptablen Druckabfall erreicht werden.
Weiterhin ist aus der US-A-3,910,288 ein Filter mit einem Filterkörper bekannt, in dessen Umfang Rillen angeordnet sind, die sich vom tabakseitigen Ende des Filters bis zu einer Stelle vor dem mundseitigen Ende des Filters erstrecken. Die Rillen sind in einer steifen KunststoffUmhüllung ausgebildet, die das Filtermaterial umgibt. An einem Ende jeder Rille ist eine Öffnung vorgesehen, die eine Verbindung zum Filtermaterial ermöglicht. Eine Filterventilation ist nicht vorgesehen.
Dieser Filter ist sehr widerstandsfähig gegen Zerdrücken, so dass die bzw. jede Rille während des gesamten Abrauchens des rauchbaren Artikels offen bleiben kann. Durch die graduelle Änderung des Rauchanteils, der durch die Rille strömt, von einem vorher definierten Wert bis zu dem Wert 0 erreicht der Filter eine nahezu gleichförmige Abgabe von teilchenförmigem Material pro Zug durch eine relativ stetige Erhöhung des Filter-Wirkungsgrades.
Schließlich zeigt die US-A-3,596,663 einen Filter für einen rauchbaren Artikel mit einem Filterkörper mit Rillen, deren Länge nicht definiert ist. Die Filterumhüllung und das Belagpapier sind jeweils porös bzw. mit Perforationen versehen.
Die luftdurchlässige Umhüllung hat Wellenform, um seinen luftdurchlässigen Oberflächenbereich zu erhöhen und damit die Leitung der Luft zu vereinfachen, die durch das ventilierte Belagpapier zu dem Filtermaterial des Filterkörpers zugelassen wird. Dadurch soll ein ventilierter Filter geschaffen werden, der die Beschränkung des Luftdurchgangs zu dem Filtermedium signifikant verringert.
Zusammenfassend lässt sich also feststellen, dass seit vielen Jahren Zigarettenfilter mit Rillen versehen werden, die abhängig von der Lage und der Länge der Rillen sowie der Porosität bzw. Ventilation des Belagpapiers/Filterumhüllungspapier die unterschiedliche Führung von Rauch und/oder Luft erlauben. Dabei können eine Verdünnung des Rauchs, eine Verwirbelung des Rauchs im Mundraum, die getrennte Führung von Ventilationsluft und Rauch sowie noch einige andere Effekte erzielt werden.
In den letzten Jahren hat ein Rauchbestandteil die Aufmerksamkeit auf sich gezogen, nämlich Kohlenmonoxid (CO), für den noch kein wirksamer, kostengünstiger Filter bekannt ist. Insbesondere in Hinblick auf die neuen gesetzlichen Regelungen, die eine Mindest-CO-Menge im Tabakrauch einer Zigarette vorschreiben, wird deshalb nach Mitteln gesucht, den CO-Gehalt des Rauches unter einen vorgegebenen Maximalwert zu reduzieren.
Der Erfindung liegt die Aufgabe zugrunde, einen Filter für einen rauchbaren Artikel, insbesondere eine Zigarette, zu schaffen, der eine wirksame, insbesondere einstellbare Verringerung des CO-Gehaltes im Vergleich zu anderen Inhaltsstoffen wie Kondensat/Nikotin des Rauches ermöglicht.
Dies wird erfindungsgemäß durch die Merkmale des Anspruchs 1 erreicht.
Zweckmäßige Ausführungsformen werden durch die Merkmale der Unteransprüche definiert.
Die mit der Erfindung erzielten Vorteile beruhen darauf, dass die hier definierte Filterausgestaltung den CO-Gehalt des Rauches sehr effektiv reduziert, dabei jedoch den Kondensat-Gehalt kaum beeinflusst. Dieser Filter bietet deshalb die Möglichkeit, das Verhältnis CO/Kondensat zu beeinflussen und damit letztendlich zu bestimmen.
Wird bei dem erfindungsgemäßen Filter ein Filterumhüllungspapier verwendet, das luftundurchlässig ist, so fließt die Ventilationsluft beim Rauchen der Zigarette über die Rillen in Richtung Tabakstrang und von dort zurück durch den Filter in den Mund des Rauchers.
Als Alternative hierzu kann auch ein Filterumhüllungspapier eingesetzt werden, das inhärent porös oder ventiliert, also mit Ventilationsöffnungen versehen ist. Dann fließt ein Teil der Ventilationsluft durch diesen Strömungspfad, also durch das durchlässige Filterumhüllungspapier, in den Filter und zum Mund des Rauchers. Dieser Anteil kann durch entsprechende Einstellung der inhärenten oder künstlichen Porosität des Filterumhüllungspapiers reguliert werden, womit wiederum Einfluss auf das Verhältnis CO/Kondensat genommen werden kann.
Versuche haben gezeigt, dass das erzielbare Verhältnis CO/Kondensat sich in Abhängigkeit von der Filterventilation ändert, d.h., durch Erhöhung der Filterventilation kann das Verhältnis CO/Kondensat verringert werden, wodurch sich eine weitere Stellgröße für das Verhältnis CO/Kondensat ergibt.
Nach einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform werden zwei bis zehn Rillen vorgesehen, da die Verwendung nur einer einzigen Rille zu einer sehr asymmetrischen Verteilung der Ventilationsluft im Rauch führt, die den Rauchgenuss beeinträchtigen könnte. Mehr als zehn Rillen sind in der Herstellung sehr aufwendig und lassen auch kaum Platz für ausreichende Strömungsquerschnitte der einzelnen Rillen. Gute Ergebnisse wurden mit vier Rillen erreicht.
Die Rollen haben einen V-förmigen, oder aber, besonders bevorzugt U-förmigen Querschnitt, da dies fertigungs- und strömungstechnische Vorteile hat.
Als Filtermaterial kommen alle herkömmlichen verwendeten Filtermaterialien in Frage, wobei eins oder mehrere dieser Materialien eingesetzt werden können. Auch der Zusatz von Additiven wie Aktivkohle oder geschmacksveränderte Zusätze ist möglich. Bevorzugt wird ein konventionelles Filter-Tow aus Celluloseacetat verwendet.
Nach einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform erstrecken sich die Rillen über weniger als 80 % der Länge des Filters, wobei gute Ergebnisse mit etwa 60 % erzielt wurden.
Die Rillen-Tiefe sollte im Bereich von 1 bis 2 mm, bevorzugt bei etwa 1,5 mm liegen, wodurch sich geeignete Strömungsvolumina ergeben.
Unter Berücksichtigung dieses Gesichtspunktes sollte die Breite der Rillen, am Umfang des Filters gemessen, zwischen 1 und 3 mm liegen, bevorzugt zwischen 1,5 und 2,5 mm.
Das zur Befestigung des Filters an dem Tabakstrang dienende Belagpapier kann einen üblichen Aufbau haben, vorausgesetzt, es lässt eine Ventilation zu. Dies kann entweder durch Verwendung eines porösen, also inhärent luftdurchlässigen Belagpapiers oder durch die mechanische, elektrostatische oder durch Laserstrahlen hergestellte Erzeugung von Ventilationsöffnungen geschehen.
Die Erfindung wird im Folgenden anhand von Ausführungsbeispielen unter Bezugnahme auf die beiliegenden, schematischen Zeichnungen näher erläutert. Es zeigen

eine perspektivische Ansicht eines an einen Tabakstrang angesetzten Filters mit teilweise abgewickeltem Belagpapier; und
Figur 2
eine Kurvendarstellung des Verhältnisses CO/Kondensat in Abhängigkeit von der Filterventilation für einen erfindungsgemäßen und einen Vergleichsfilter.
Figur 1 zeigt eine perspektivische Ansicht eines Teils einer allgemein durch das Bezugszeichen 10 angedeuteten Filterzigarette mit einem üblichen Tabakstrang 12 und einem an ein Ende des Tabakstrangs 12 angesetzten Filterelement 14. Das Filterelement 14 besteht aus einem zylindrischen Filterkörper 16 aus Filter-Tow aus Celluloseacetat, das homogen über das gesamte Volumen des Filterkörpers 14 verteilt ist. Es sind also keine Strömungsöffnungen, Rohre etc. in dem Filterkörper 14 vorgesehen.
Der Filterkörper 14 mit der Filtermasse 16 ist von einem Filterumhüllungspapier 18 umgeben, das je nach Anforderungen, also insbesondere unter Berücksichtigung des angestrebten Tabakgeschmacks luftundurchlässig, inhärent porös und/oder mit Ventilationsöffnungen versehen sein kann.
In den Umfang des Filterkörpers 14 sind Rillen 20 eingeprägt, bei der dargestellten Ausführungsform vier Rillen 20, die symmetrisch über den Umfang des Filterkörpers 14 verteilt sind. Die Rillen 20 erstrecken sich bis zum tabakstrangseitigen Ende des Filters 14 und sind dort offen, so dass eine Strömungsverbindung zwischen den Rillen 20 und dem Tabakstrang 12 besteht.
Die Rillen 20 verlaufen über den Umfang des Filterkörpers 16 in axialer Richtung und enden in einem strömungstechnisch ausreichenden Abstand vor dem mundseitigen Ende des Filters 14, also in einem Abstand, in dem weder Luft noch Rauch aus den Rillen 20 direkt zu dem mundseitigen Ende des Filterkörpers 14 gelangen kann.
Untersuchungen haben gezeigt, dass die axiale Länge der Rillen 20 weniger als 80 % der Länge des Filterkörpers 14 betragen sollte. Bevorzugt werden etwa 60 %.
Die Rillen 20 haben im Querschnitt U-Form, eine Tiefe von etwa 1,5 mm und am Umfang eine Breite von etwa 2 mm.
Der Filterkörper 14 wird in der üblichen Weise von einem Belagpapier 22 umgeben, das bei der dargestellten Ausführungsform mit zwei umlaufenden parallelen Reihen von Ventilationsöffnungen 24 versehen ist. Es können auch mehr oder weniger Reihen von Ventilationsöffnungen 24 vorgesehen werden, oder das Belagpapier 22 kann inhärent porös sein. Es muss nur gewährleistet werden, dass die Porosität bzw. die Zahl und Größe der Ventilationsöffnungen 22 einen angestrebten Ventilationsgrad gewährleisten.
Für die Ausgestaltung des Filterumhüllungspapiers 18 gibt es zwei prinzipielle Möglichkeiten, nämlich die Verwendung eines luftundurchlässigen Papiers oder eines luftdurchlässigen Papiers.
Bei Verwendung eines luftundurchlässigen Papiers als Filterumhüllungspapier 18 fließt die Ventilationsluft beim Rauchen der Zigarette durch die Ventilationsöffnungen 24 in die Rillen 20 und dann in den Rillen 20 in Richtung Tabakstrang, wo die Richtung umgekehrt wird und die Ventilationsluft nun zusammen mit dem Rauch von dem Tabakstrang 12 durch den Filterkörper 16 in den Mund des Rauchers fließt.
Ist das Filterumhüllungspapier luftdurchlässig, also inhärent porös oder mit Ventilationsöffnungen versehen, so fließt ein regulierbarer Anteil der Ventilationsluft durch diesen Strömungspfad, also durch die luftdurchlässigen Stellen des Filterumhüllungspapiers, in den Filter und zum Mund des Rauchers. Auf diese Weise lässt sich die Verdünnung des Rauches durch die Ventilationsluft an zwei Stellen einstellen, nämlich einmal an der Ventilation 24 des Belagpapiers 22 und zum anderen über die Ventilationsluft, die direkt über die Rillen 20 in das Filtermaterial 16 eintritt.
Falls erforderlich, können in die Außenfläche des Belagpapiers 22 weitere, kurze Rillen nur offen zur Mundseite des Filters 14 eingeprägt sein, die strömungstechnisch keine Funktion haben, da sie nicht mit der Ventilationszone 24 verbunden sind, sondern nur dem Raucher das Vorhandensein von Rillen in dem Filter 14 anzeigen.
Figur 2 zeigt ein Kurvendiagramm der Wirkung der Filterventilation auf das CO/Kondensat-Verhältnis bei einem erfindungsgemäßen Filter aus konventionellem Filter-Tow aus Celluloseacetat, einem luftundurchlässigen Filterumhüllungspapier und vier Rillen 20 mit den obigen Abmessungen, die symmetrisch über den Umfang des Filterkörpers 16 verteilt sind und sich, ausgehend von dem tabakseitigen Ende, über 60 % der Länge des Filters 14 erstrecken.
In Versuchen wurde die Ventilation des Filters 14 variiert, und zwar von der Filterventilation 0 auf einen maximalen Ventilationsgrad von 70 %.
In der Figur geben die vollen Kreise die Messwerte für einen üblichen Filter aus Monoacetat-Filter-Tow ohne Rillen an, während die Quadrate die Messwerte für einen erfindungsgemäßen Filter 14 mit dem oben erläuterten Aufbau und sonst den gleichen Abmessungen wie der Vergleichsfilter beschreiben.
Man kann sehr gut erkennen, dass der erfindungsgemäße Filter 14 den CO-Gehalt des Rauches und damit das Verhältnis CO/Kondensat von etwa 1,4 auf etwa 0,7 verringert, während durch Ventilation allein, also ohne Verwendung von Rillen, das Verhältnis CO/Kondensat nur auf etwa 1,12 abgesenkt werden kann.
Damit lässt sich mit dem erfindungsgemäßem Filter 14 durch entsprechende Auswahl eines geeigneten Ventilationsgrades für das Belagpapier 22 der CO-Gehalt des Rauches unter die Grenzwerte drücken, die von den neuen Bestimmungen vorgegeben werden.

Claims (18)

  1. Filter für einen rauchbaren Artikel, insbesondere eine Zigarette,
    a) mit einem zylindrischen Filterkörper (16) aus mindestens einem Filtermaterial,
    b) mit einem Umhüllungspapier (18) für den Filterkörper (16),
    c) mit in das Umhüllungspapier (18) eingeprägten, sich in Längsrichtung des Filterkörpers (16) erstreckenden Rillen (20), und
    d) mit einem Belagpapier für die Verbindung des Filterkörpers (16) mit einem Tabakstrang (12),
    dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass
    e) alle Rillen (20) zur Seite des Tabakstrangs (12) hin offen sind und sich kontinuierlich nur über einen Teil der Länge des Filterkörpers (16), also nicht bis zum mundseitigen Ende des Filterkörpers (16), erstrecken, und dass
    f) alle Rillen (20) von dem ventiliertem Belagpapier (22) abgedeckt sind.
  2. Filter nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass sich die Rillen (20) über maximal 80 % der Länge des Filterkörpers (16) erstrecken.
  3. Filterkörper nach Anspruch 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Länge der Rillen (20) etwa 40 bis 70 %, insbesondere etwa 55 bis 65 % der Länge des Filterkörpers (16) beträgt.
  4. Filter nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass zwei bis zehn Rillen (20) vorgesehen sind.
  5. Filter nach Anspruch 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass drei bis fünf Rillen, insbesondere vier Rillen vorgesehen sind.
  6. Filter nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Rillen (20) symmetrisch über den Umfang des Filterkörpers (16) verteilt sind.
  7. Filter nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Rillen (20) V-Form oder U-Form haben.
  8. Filter nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Rillen eine Tiefe von 1 bis 2 mm haben.
  9. Filter nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Rillen (20) am Umfang eine Breite von 1 bis 3 mm, insbesondere von 1,5 bis 2,5 mm haben.
  10. Filter nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 9, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Filterkörper (16) aus Filter-Tow aus Celluloseacetat besteht.
  11. Filter nach Anspruch 10, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Filterkörper (16) Additive wie Aktivkohle oder geschmacksverändernde Zusätze enthält.
  12. Filter nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 11, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Filterumhüllungspapier (18) luftundurchlässig ist.
  13. Filter nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 11, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Filterumhüllungspapier porös und/oder mit Ventilationsöffnungen versehen ist.
  14. Filter nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 13, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Belagpapier (22) porös ist.
  15. Filter nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 13, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Belagpapier (22) mechanisch, elektrostatisch oder durch Laserstrahlen mit Ventilationsöffnungen (24) versehen ist.
  16. Filter nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 15, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Ventilationsgrad des Belagpapiers (22) zwischen 30 und 80 %, insbesondere zwischen 40 und 70 %, liegt.
  17. Filter nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 16, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass auf der Mundseite des Filterkörpers (16) zusätzliche, kurze Rillen als Angabe für die Existenz der Rillen (20) vorgesehen sind.
  18. Verwendung eines Filters (14) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 17 zur Reduzierung des Verhältnisses CO/Kondensat in Abhängigkeit von der Filterventilation.
