Definitions
- the present invention relates to a device for detecting smoke, for example in a room.
- Smoke detectors are known in a variety of forms and designs and on the market. However, almost all work on one principle. To be detected, the smoke must flow through the smoke detector. The method is known as a scattered light method and requires that the smoke comes into contact with the sensor. The consequence of this is that smoke detectors have to protrude from the ceiling, installation flush with the ceiling is not possible according to the applicable European standard EN54. During maintenance, it is necessary that the entire sensor head is disassembled and sent to the manufacturer. In practice, the sensor heads are replaced by new, as can not wait until the replaced, repaired by the manufacturer or come back serviced. As a result, it is necessary that twice the amount of smoke detectors be stored by the maintenance companies.
- the commercially available smoke detectors can be manipulated without there being any detection of the manipulation.
- it is necessary that each individual smoke detector is wired to the control cabinet.
- a device wherein a transmitter for emitting a reflected from the smoke in space radiation and the radiation reflected by the smoke detecting receiver are provided.
- the present invention has for its object to provide a device of the type mentioned above, with which detected in a simple way smoke, detected pollution or sabotage or the smoke detector is tested for its functionality. This should also make the European Standard EN54 for smoke alarms easier and more satisfiable.
- What type of radiation is of minor importance.
- it may be a laser or light radiation of any wavelength (preferably in the infrared range), but is also intended to ultrasound or to a radiation that works on the ionization principle. All radiation sources can be used here, in which it is ensured that the emitted radiation is reflected by the smoke particles.
- the great advantage is that the smoke detector does not have to be flowed through by the smoke, so that a flush-mounted installation is possible.
- the transmitter and / or the receiver according to the invention a pre-set. This cover ensures that all elements required for measurement are not contaminated.
- the transmitter emits radiation in the room immediately below the smoke detector. If the radiation hits smoke particles which form a reflection barrier, the receiver can detect the reflected radiation. This also detects the smoke. From the radiating or incidence angle selected, the reflection distance, that is the distance between the smoke detector and the smoke, also results.
- a self-diagnosis is also provided.
- the transmitter before the cover assigned a control receiver For example, the transmitter emits a short pulsed radiation. If this radiation is confirmed by the control receiver, the function of the transmitter is guaranteed.
- the control receiver monitors the radiation channel.
- a short, pulsed transmission radiation is emitted by a control transmitter. If radiation is confirmed by the receiver, the function of the receiver is guaranteed.
- the cover serves as a reflection surface. If the radiation is reflected at the reflection surface, it is detected by its own transmitter or receiver, whereby it is determined that the cover has become radiopaque.
- a contamination control of the cover can be performed. If dust or dirt particles are deposited on the cover, the signal value of the receiver assigned to the transmitter and of the main receiver increases steadily. If a critical contamination value is reached, a maintenance signal is issued. The resulting maintenance usually only means cleaning the cover. It is not necessary to remove or replace the smoke detector sensor.
- the novel device according to the invention for Detection of smoke can also be influenced by external radiation.
- the receiver In the case of light radiation, this is primarily solar radiation or radiation from other light sources, when using infrared radiation, an infrared remote control or an infrared interface from a printer can lead to irritation. To exclude this, the receiver should be preceded by a filter that filters out these extraneous radiations. If, for example, light is used as radiation, then the sensor receives the entire incident light radiation, but only converts the light radiation with the emitted frequency into DC voltage, which then results in the transmission signal. The remaining light radiation is converted into AC voltage and set to zero.
- the device according to the invention is preferably controlled so that not every deviation of the reflection leads to an alarm or the like.
- an insect flyby incidentally reflecting radiation is as likely to pass as a cleaner with a feather duster. Therefore, a plurality of recognition processes are successively added by a control program. Only when several detection processes consecutively detect a deviation of the reflection, an alarm is triggered. Even an abrupt increase in the deviation of the reflection does not yet lead to a message, since it is known that smoke leads rather to a continuous increase of a reflection deviation.
- the entire device is preferably formed as a unit. It can be designed as a stand-alone version, with the connections being controlled by simple relay outputs.
- the entire system can be controlled by a flexible microprocessor system via a BUS.
- Each smoke detector communicates with a control center via the BUS.
- a cable break can be detected by an initialization sequence, whereby a completely failed smoke detector is determined.
- the error message includes the degree of contamination or sabotage and the number of the device on which the event occurred.
- the inventive device is particularly suitable for installation in ducts of air conditioning systems, these devices are usually used to trigger fire dampers.
- these devices are usually used to trigger fire dampers.
- the smoke detector was set in the right direction to the flow direction. This is why errors often occurred in the past, especially when the flow direction was uneven and changed.
- the flow direction is completely unimportant, so that no great care must be taken for the arrangement of the device in the channel.
- An apparatus according to the invention for detecting smoke indicated by dashed lines 1 has a transmitter 2 and a receiver 3.
- Transmitter 2 and receiver 3 are preferably located in a housing 4, which may be embedded in a ceiling, for example.
- the transmitter 2 is preferably assigned a separate receiver 9 and a control receiver 10.
- the receiver 3 in turn has its own transmitter 11 and a control transmitter 12 assigned.
- the actual smoke detection is done via the transmitter 2 and the receiver 3 according FIG. 2 , If smoke 1 is present in a smoke measurement zone, the radiation 6 emitted by the transmitter 2 is reflected by the smoke 1 and measured by the receiver 3. The intensity of the reflection is a measure of the smoke density. Furthermore, the reflection distance results from a selected emission or incidence angle, ie it can also be determined how far away the smoke from the device according to the invention is.
- the own receiver 9 for the transmitter 2 and the own transmitter 11 for the receiver 3 are provided, as shown in FIG. 3 is shown. If the cover 5 or 7 be dirty or taped, the radiation can not penetrate through the cover 5/7, but is reflected. This reflected radiation is detected by the receiver 9 and the receiver 3.
- the system can be set so that a percentage of contamination is determined. This means, for example, that one Error message is given only when the pollution has exceeded a certain degree.
- the setting can also be made so that the smoke detection remains active with increasing pollution up to a certain height.
- a self-test of the inventive device is desired. This one is in FIG. 4 shown.
- the self-test serve the control receiver 10 and the control transmitter 12.
- the transmitter 2 is tested by its signal from the receiver 10 is received directly. If the receiver 10 registers the radiation, it is determined that the transmitter is operational.
- the receiver 3 is tested by being illuminated by the transmitter 12. If receiver 3 receives the radiation, it is functional.
