Definitions
- the present invention relates to the field of treatment of mail. More particularly, it relates to a folder / inserter intended folding and enveloping mail items such as A4 or A5 size documents, reply envelopes or inserts advertising.
- the document feed trays by their physical structures (in particular the dimensions of the feeders and training means), cannot receive documents having a format too small, ie in practice a format smaller than A5 format.
- the insertion of the insert is no longer carried out directly without folding in the insertion module but after making the folds through of the folding module, which poses a serious problem when this insert is hardcover.
- the present invention relates to a folding machine and / or of insertion which allows such a combined insertion of response envelopes and inserts in the same empty envelope without having the disadvantages cited above.
- Another object of the invention is to propose a machine which has increased loading capacity.
- a machine for folding and / or inserting comprising a first path coupled upstream to an entry of documents and downstream to a first entry of a folding module, a second path coupled upstream with an entry of empty envelopes and in downstream to a first input of an insertion module itself coupled downstream from a folding module outlet, a third path coupled upstream to an output from the insertion module and downstream to an envelope output loaded and closed, and a fourth path coupled upstream to a first entry of advertising inserts or reply envelopes and downstream to a second input of the insertion module, characterized in that it further includes a fifth path coupled upstream to a second entry of advertising inserts or reply envelopes and downstream to the second entry of the insertion module, the path of the inserts advertising or response envelopes along the fourth and fifth paths between the entries of advertising inserts or reply envelopes and the second entry of the insertion module is made through the module folding without passing through the folding pockets.
- the second entry of advertising inserts or of reply envelopes is placed under the first entry of inserts advertising or reply envelopes on the back of the machine. So, the overall dimensions of the machine are only slightly modified.
- the first and second inset paths advertising or response envelopes form a transport path having a general Y configuration with a common terminal part which follows a substantially straight path aligned with the second input of the insertion module.
- This transport path consists of two half-ducts including a lower half-duct articulated around an axis for allow access to the interior of the transportation path after its tilting down.
- the lower half-duct is fitted with simple pressure rollers which cooperate with rollers drive integral with an upper half-conduit of the path transport of advertising inserts or response envelopes and operated at from the machine control motor.
- a folding and inserting machine is used to fold and ensure enveloping of mail items such as documents, advertising inserts and reply envelopes, preferably as and when making these items. It belongs the equipment of a secretarial post where it constitutes one of the machines made available to the person working at this position. This machine is simply placed on its work plan and its access is easy, in particular for the presentation of documents which this person ensures the envelope.
- the machine has a document entry 1 located at the base of a main document feeder 100 comprising for example a tray manual loading 110 for admission of one to five sheets and two loading magazines (or bins) 120, 130, an entrance 2 of empty envelopes located at the base of a secondary feeder 200 envelopes with an empty envelope store, an entry 4 inserts or reply envelopes located at the base of a feeder auxiliary 400 comprising an advertising inserts / reply envelopes store, and an outlet 3 of loaded and closed envelopes.
- a document entry 1 located at the base of a main document feeder 100 comprising for example a tray manual loading 110 for admission of one to five sheets and two loading magazines (or bins) 120, 130, an entrance 2 of empty envelopes located at the base of a secondary feeder 200 envelopes with an empty envelope store, an entry 4 inserts or reply envelopes located at the base of a feeder auxiliary 400 comprising an advertising inserts / reply envelopes store, and an outlet 3 of loaded and closed envelopes.
- a frame 5 of machine itself formed in two parts called upper chassis 5A and lower chassis 5B.
- the upper frame with its lower side open and is hinged mounted on the lower chassis with open upper face, around a 5D axis carried advantageously by the upper chassis, preferably at level of its front part.
- the SA upper frame is also locked on the lower chassis 5B which it then closes, by means of locking / unlocking 5C preferably arranged at its part back.
- Empty envelopes are loaded into packages in the magazine 200.
- advertising inserts or reply envelopes are also introduced in bundles without more difficulties in terms of store 400.
- the envelopes loaded and closed are available at output 3.
- Entry 1 for documents and entry 2 for empty envelopes are defined on the upper wall of the upper chassis 5A, with input 1 plus behind that input 2 (for example input 2 is on the front of the machine and entry 1 on top).
- Entry 4 of advertising inserts / response envelopes is defined behind the entry of documents 1 on the rear of the machine substantially at the level of the chassis separation upper 5A and lower 5B and output 3 of the loaded envelopes and closed is defined at the bottom and front of the lower chassis 5B in front of the entry of empty envelopes.
- Entry 1 of the documents corresponds to a path 10 of documents in the machine, which feeds a functional folding module 15.
- the folding module 15 is preferably with two folding pockets, one pocket upper 150 intended for the realization of a first fold and a pocket lower 152 intended for the production of a second fold, associated with a set of four folding rollers 160 to 166 including one drive 160.
- This path 10 defines the trajectory of the documents between entry 1 and the entrance to the folding module 15. It forms a substantially straight line terminated by an elbow guiding the documents from entrance 1 (on top of the machine) to a central or central part of the upper chassis 5A, to supply the folding module 15, partly mounted in a part rear middle of the SA chassis and for the other part also in a rear middle part of chassis 5B.
- This folding module 15 ensures itself at the end of the path 10, during the folding that it performs, a folding from the path of the documents to the mail outlet 3.
- This path 20 which in the example illustrated does not cut the path 10 during its journey in the machine documents, ends in a middle front part of the machine.
- This path defines the trajectory of empty envelopes from entry 2 to a first entry of a functional insertion nodule 25. It forms here also a substantially straight line ending in a bend guiding the envelopes in the insertion module. It is equipped with a means opening the flap of empty envelopes (not shown).
- Entry 4 of inserts or reply envelopes corresponds to a path 40 of advertising inserts or reply envelopes in the machine which brings these inserts or reply envelopes directly to a formation zone of the second document fold in the folding module 15, more precisely at the entrance to the second folding pocket 152.
- the path follows a substantially straight path aligned with a second input of the insertion module 25.
- This path 30 is substantially linear and extends, between the upper and lower chassis 5A, 5B, from the front of the machine to the middle front of the machine and it is aligned with the output of the folding module 15 and substantially with the output of the path 40 inserts or reply envelopes.
- This path 30 is classically equipped different modules, which become disorganized with the opening of the chassis upper 5A on the lower chassis 5B, as a functional module of loading of different articles in empty envelopes (module 31), a functional module for wetting the flaps and a module folding and closing the flaps (these last two modules are not represented).
- a control circuit 6 defines the controls of the machine during a control cycle, in conjunction with circuits if necessary interface 61, 62, 63 specific to the main feeder 100, the feeder secondary 200 and the auxiliary feeder 400.
- Food stores which can for example be made in welded sheet metal, each conventionally comprises a support plate 121, 131, 201, 401 two lateral feeders 122, 132, 202, 402 self-centered (sliding in synchronism by a rack not shown) and a rear presser 123, 133, 203, 403 mobile.
- the support plate has on part of its bottom a die 124, 134, 204, 404 constituted by a shoe covered with a rough coating to ensure separation / selection of different items (documents, empty envelopes, advertising inserts or reply envelopes) extracts from the corresponding store.
- the training of these articles are carried out by at least one roller, preferably two rollers 125, 126; 135, 136; 205, 206; 405, 406 for taking articles, driven by a machine control motor 7, via a set of drive sprockets (not shown).
- a machine control motor 7 driven by a machine control motor 7
- a set of drive sprockets not shown.
- the two-pocket folding module 15 and the opening modules of flap, wetting and closing envelopes are described so detailed for example in the European patent EP 0 352 692 filed with the non of the plaintiff.
- the response envelope is drawn from the magazine by the rollers for taking articles 405, 406 and after selection by the die 404 is entrained between rollers / transport counterparts 407, 408 along path 40 until it exits at roller 164 of the module folding 15 where it remains in the waiting position (a detector not represented makes it possible to determine this position and to cut (disengage) the driving means of the response envelope).
- this first the operating phase will preferably be carried out in parallel with the other operating phases of this machine.
- the course of the second phase of operation is carried out differently depending on whether this reply envelope is inserted alone in an empty envelope or in additional documents.
- the response envelope is set in motion again when the empty envelope, extracted from the magazine 200 by the take-up rollers 205, 206 and the die 204, is driven by the pressure rollers / counterbalances 207, 208 along path 20 up to upstream of the first input of the insertion module 25.
- the documents arriving upstream of the folding module 15 from the path 10 after having been extracted successively from store 120 (and from magazine 130) by the take-up rollers 125, 126 (respectively 135, 136) and the die 124 (134), are driven (via the rollers / counterbalances of transport 127, 128) by the rollers 160, 162 in the first folding pocket 150 then, after forming a loop (resulting from the contact of the document with the folding stop 154 of this first pocket), they are driven by the rollers 160, 164 in the second folding pocket 152 until they come in contact with the second folding stop 156 of this second pocket.
- the response envelope is again set in motion and injected into the folding area to be driven with documents by rollers 160, 166 to the second entrance of the insertion module 25 at the entrance to path 30.
- the process previously described can also apply to a document from manual insertion tray 110.
- the stops 154, 156 are adjustable, by a translation along each pocket, to choose the position of the first and second folds.
- inserts or reply envelopes corresponds to the path 40 advertising inserts or reply envelopes in the machine which take these inserts or reply envelopes directly to the formation of the second document fold in the folding module 15, more precisely at the entrance to the second folding pocket 152.
- This path in a terminal part 45 which adjoins the entrance of this second folding pocket, follows a substantially straight path aligned with the second input of the insertion module 25.
- At one second entry 5 of inserts or reply envelopes corresponds to a second path 50 for advertising inserts or reply envelopes which brings these inserts or reply envelopes also directly to the formation of the second document fold in the folding module 15, plus precisely at the entrance to the second folding pocket 152.
- This path joins in its terminal part the terminal part 45 of the first insert path 40 (these two paths thus having a configuration in Y) and therefore follows a trajectory at this common terminal part substantially straight aligned with the second entry of the insertion module 25.
- the second way of transporting inserts / reply envelopes 45, 50 is formed by two half-pipes, one of which, preferably a half-pipe lower 52, is articulated around an axis 54 to allow its lowering (by locking / unlocking means not represented) and therefore facilitate access to the interior of this path.
- the entry 5 for inserts or reply envelopes is located at the base a second auxiliary feeder 500 comprising an insert magazine advertising / response envelopes in which the advertising inserts or reply envelopes are entered in packets as for the others feeders.
- This second store of advertising inserts or of reply envelopes 500 is defined behind the first entry 4 inserts / return envelopes on the back of the machine below the first store 400.
- This second store 500 has a structure advantageously similar to that of the first store 400 with a plate support 501, two self-centering side feeders 502 (sliding in synchronism by a rack (not shown) and a rear presser mobile 503.
- the support plate has on a part of its bottom a die 504 consisting of a pad covered with a rough coating for ensure separation / selection of different items (advertising inserts or reply envelopes) from store 500.
- the training of these articles is carried out by at least one roller, preferably two rollers 505, 506 for taking items, driven by the control motor 7 of the machine.
- rollers 507, 508 for picking up the articles are provided at the entrance to path 50.
- these pebbles include drive rollers 407, 507 and simple rollers (counter-rollers) of pressure 408, 508, the first are connected to the control motor 7 of the machine through control kinematics (with in particular drive sprockets and belt) shown in phantom in Figure 1 and the second are movable with the lower half-duct 52 of which they follow the movement down.
- control kinematics with in particular drive sprockets and belt
- the feeder 500 is controlled through a interface 64 with the control circuit 6 of the machine and different sensors (not shown) are conventionally provided to ensure correct functioning of this feeder, in particular to detect the presence of advertising inserts or reply envelopes in the store or the entry and the advance in the transport path 50 of the machine (at the end of the selection by the sector for example).
- this second bin supply of inserts or reply envelopes increases the loading capacity in inserts or reply envelopes if only one of these two types of items only are requested, subject to increase correspondingly the loading capacity of empty envelopes.
- this second bin under the first, in the immediate vicinity the central insertion area, the overall dimensions of the machine are not increased (or only in small proportions) and its architecture initial compact is thus preserved. Overall, the performance of the machine are improved while keeping its flexibility of use initial.
