Definitions
- the present invention relates to the field of the treatment of mail. More particularly, it relates to a folder / inserter intended folding and wrapping of mail items such as A4 or A5 size documents, answer envelopes or inserts advertising.
- Folders / document inserters are industrial machines well known in the art.
- European Patent Application No. 0 700 794 of the Pitney Company Bowes describes such a machine conventionally comprising feeders documents, an empty envelope feeder, and an inserter feeder advertising.
- this machine is quite large and, by design, with bins substantially horizontally, it allows only a small capacity to loading in mail items.
- the plaintiff has developed machines with significantly higher loading capacities. Two examples of embodiments of such machines are given in the patent EP 352 692 and French patent application FR 2 757 841.
- the plaintiff has in its French patent application FR 2 769 871 (Art 54 (3) - (4) (BE) disclosed a new transport path architecture for these machines with particularly high reliability (notably by the limitation of jam sources) and improved performance.
- the document feeders from their physical structures (in particular the dimensions of the feeders and means of training), can not receive documents having a format too small, ie in practice a format smaller than the A5 format. Finally, inserting the insert is no longer done directly without folding in the insertion module but after making the folds through of the folding module, which is a serious problem when this insert is card.
- the present invention relates to a folding machine and / or insertion that allows such a combined insertion of envelopes-responses and inserts in the same empty envelope without the disadvantages supra.
- Another object of the invention is to propose a machine which has an increased loading capacity.
- a folding machine and / or insertion of the type having a first path coupled upstream to an input of documents and downstream to a first input of a folding module, a second path coupled upstream to an input of empty envelopes and downstream to a first input of an insertion module itself coupled downstream an output of the folding module, a third path coupled upstream to an output of the insertion module and downstream to an output of envelopes loaded and closed, and a fourth path coupled upstream to a first entry of advertising inserts or envelopes-responses and downstream to a second input of the insertion module, characterized in that further comprises a fifth path coupled upstream to a second entry of advertising inserts or envelopes-responses and downstream to the second input of the insertion module, the routing of the inserts advertisements or answer envelopes along the fourth and fifth paths between inserts or envelopes entries and the second input of the insertion module being effected through the module folding without passing through the fold pockets.
- the second entry of advertising inserts or of envelopes-answers is arranged under the first entry of inserts advertising or envelope-answers behind the machine. So, the overall size of the machine is little changed.
- the first and second inset paths or reply envelopes form a transport path having a general Y configuration with a common terminal part which follows a substantially rectilinear trajectory aligned with the second input of the insertion module.
- This transport path consists of two half-ducts including a lower half-duct articulated about an axis for allow access within the transport path after its tilting down.
- the lower half-conduit is equipped with simple pressure rollers that cooperate with rollers of training a half-pipe upper of the path of transport advertising inserts or envelopes responses and operated at from the control motor of the machine.
- a folding and inserting machine serves folding and insuring mail items such as documents, advertising inserts and reply envelopes, preferably as these items are made. It belongs equipment of a secretarial post where it constitutes one of the machines made available to the person working in that position. This machine is simply placed on its worktop and access is easy, in particular for the presentation of documents of which that person putting in an envelope.
- the machine has an entry 1 of documents located at the base of a main document feeder 100 comprising for example a tray manual loading 110 for an admission of one to five sheets and two magazines (or bins) loading 120, 130, an entry 2 empty envelopes located at the base of a secondary feeder of envelopes 200 having an empty envelope magazine, an entry 4 inserts or envelopes at the bottom of a feeder auxiliary 400 comprising an advertising insert store / enyeloppes-responses, and an output 3 of envelopes loaded and closed.
- a tray manual loading 110 for an admission of one to five sheets and two magazines (or bins) loading 120, 130
- an entry 2 empty envelopes located at the base of a secondary feeder of envelopes 200 having an empty envelope magazine
- an entry 4 inserts or envelopes at the bottom of a feeder auxiliary 400 comprising an advertising insert store / enyeloppes-responses
- an output 3 of envelopes loaded and closed comprising for example a tray manual loading 110 for an admission of one to five sheets and two magazines (or bin
- chassis 5 of machine itself formed in two parts called upper chassis SA and lower frame 5B.
- the upper frame with its lower face open and is articulated on the lower frame to open upper face, around a 5D axis advantageously carried by the upper frame, preferably at level of its front part.
- the upper chassis SA is also locked on the lower chassis 5B that it then closes, by means of locking / unlocking 5C arranged preferably at the level of its part back.
- Empty envelopes are loaded in packages in the store 200.
- advertising inserts or answer envelopes are also introduced in packets without further difficulties in store 400. Envelopes loaded and closed are themselves available at exit 3.
- Entry 1 of documents and entry 2 of empty envelopes are defined on the upper wall of the upper chassis SA, with the entry 1 plus back as input 2 (eg input 2 is on the front of the machine and entry 1 on its top).
- Entry 4 of advertising inserts / envelopes-responses is defined behind the entry of documents 1 on the rear of the machine substantially at the level of the separation of the chassis upper SA and lower 5B and the output 3 of the envelopes loaded and is defined at the bottom and front of the lower chassis 5B in front of the entry of empty envelopes.
- the folding module 15 is preferably two fold pockets, a pocket upper 150 for the realization of a first fold and a pocket lower 152 for the realization of a second fold, associated with a set of four folding rollers 160 to 166 including one drive 160.
- This path 10 defines the trajectory of the documents between entry 1 and the input of the folding module 15. It forms a substantially rectilinear line ended with a bend guiding the documents from input 1 (on the top of the machine) towards a central or central part of the upper frame 5A, for feeding the folding module 15, mounted partly in a part rear middle of the SA chassis and for the other part also in a rear middle part of the chassis 5B.
- This folding module 15 ensures itself at the end of the path 10, during folding which it realizes, a folding from the trajectory of the documents towards the exit of folds 3.
- This path 20 which in the illustrated example does not cut at any time, during its journey in the machine, the path 10 documents, ends in a middle part of the machine.
- This path defines the path of the empty envelopes from input 2 to a first input of an insertion functional module 25. It forms here also a substantially straight line ending in an elbow guiding the envelopes in the insertion module. It is equipped with a means opening of the flap of the empty envelopes (not shown).
- a path 40 of the advertising inserts or envelopes-answers in the machine that brings these inserts or envelopes-answers directly to a forming zone of the second document fold in the folding module 15, more precisely at the entrance of the second folding pocket 152.
- the path follows a substantially rectilinear path aligned with a second input of the insertion module 25.
- This path 30 is substantially linear and extends, between the upper and lower chassis SA, 5B, from the front part of the machine up to the front middle part of the machine and it is aligned with the output of the folding module 15 and substantially with the output of the path 40 inserts or envelopes-answers.
- This path 30 is conventionally equipped different modules, which disorganize with the opening of the chassis superior SA on the lower chassis 5B, as a functional module of loading different items into empty envelopes (module insertion plate 25), a functional module for wetting the flaps and a module folding and closing flaps (the latter two modules not being shown).
- a control circuit 6 defines the controls of the machine during a control cycle, connected if necessary with circuits interface 61, 62, 63 specific to the main feeder 100, the feeder secondary 200 and the auxiliary feeder 400.
- the supply magazines typically comprise each on a support plate 121, 131, 201, 401 two side feeders 122, 132, 202, 402 autocentered (sliding in synchronism by a rack not shown) and a movable rear squeezer 123, 133, 203, 403.
- the support plate has on a part of its bottom a die 124, 134, 204, 404 constituted by a pad covered with a rough coating to ensure separation / selection of different items (documents, empty envelopes, advertising inserts or envelopes-responses ) extracts from the corresponding store.
- the drive of these articles is performed by at least one roller, preferably two rollers 125, 126; 135, 136; 205, 206; 405, 406 of articles, driven by a control motor 7 of the machine, through a set of drive gears (not shown).
- a control motor 7 of the machine through a set of drive gears (not shown).
- the two-pocket folding module 15 and the flap opening, wetting and envelope closure modules are described in detail for example in the European patent EP 0 352 692 filed in the name of the applicant.
- stores 200 and 400 are accessible easily, empty envelopes or answer envelopes being stored in a vertical position.
- the implementation of these two types of envelopes is simply carried out in packets by spreading the rear presser. It is even document stores conveniently located on top of the machine.
- the response envelope is withdrawn from the store by the pebbles taking articles 405, 406 and after selection by the die 404 is driven between transport rollers / counterbalances 407, 408 along the path 40 to its exit at the level of the roller 164 of the module 15 where it remains in the waiting position (a non represented, it is possible to determine this position and to cut (disengage) the motor drive means of the envelope-response).
- this first phase of operation will preferably be carried out in parallel with the other phases of operation of this machine.
- the course of the second phase of operation is carried out differently depending on whether envelope-answer is inserted alone in an empty envelope or in additional documents.
- the reply envelope is put back in motion when the empty envelope, extracted from the store 200 by the setting rollers 205, 206 and the die 204, is driven by the pressure rollers / counterbalances 207, 208 along the path 20 to upstream of the first input of the insertion module 25.
- documents that arrive upstream of the folding module 15 since the path 10 after having been extracted successively from the magazine 120 (and store 130) by the setting rollers 125, 126 (respectively 135, 136) and the die 124 (134), are driven (via the rollers / counterbalances of transport 127, 128) by the rollers 160, 162 in the first folding pocket 150 then, after forming a loop (resulting from the contact of the document with the abutment of the folding 154 of this first pocket), they are driven by the rollers 160, 164 in the second folding pocket 152 until contact with the second folding stop 156 of this second pocket.
- the envelope-answer is again set in motion and injected into the folding zone to be driven with the documents by the rollers 160, 166 to the second entrance of the insertion module 25 at the entrance to the path 30.
- the process previously described may similarly apply to a document from manual insertion tray 110.
- the stops 154, 156 are adjustable, by a translation along each pocket, to choose the position of the first and second folds.
- This path joins in its terminal part the terminal part 45 of the first inset path 40 (these two paths thus presenting a configuration in Y) and thus follows at the level of this common terminal part a trajectory substantially rectilinear aligned with the second input of the insertion module 25.
- the second transport path of inserts / envelopes-responses 45, 50 is formed of two half-ducts, one of which, preferably a half-duct 52, is articulated about an axis 54 to allow its lowering (by non-locking / unlocking means represented) and thus facilitate access to the interior of this path.
- the input 5 of inserts or envelopes-answers is located at the base a second auxiliary feeder 500 having an inset magazine advertisements / answer envelopes in which the advertising inserts or envelopes-responses are introduced in packets as for the others feeders.
- This second store of advertising inserts or of envelope-answers 500 is defined behind the first entry 4 inserts / envelopes-answers on the back of the machine below the first store 400.
- This second store 500 presents a structure advantageously similar to that of the first magazine 400 with a plate support 501, two side feeders 502 are self-centering (sliding in synchronism by a not shown rack) and a rear squeegee 503.
- the support plate has on part of its bottom a die 504 constituted by a pad covered with a rough coating for ensure separation / selection of different items (advertising inserts or envelopes-responses) from the 500 store.
- the training of these articles is made by at least one roller, preferably two rollers 505, 506 of taking articles, driven by the control motor 7 of the machine. Inside the machine, like the rollers 407 and 408 associated with the road 40, rollers 507, 508 of recovery of the articles are provided at the entrance to path 50. It will be noted that these rollers comprise rollers 407, 507 and simple pebbles (against rollers) of pressure 408, 508.
- the first are connected to the control motor 7 of the machine through a control kinematics (with particular drive sprockets and belt) shown in phantom in Figure 1 and the second are movable with the lower half-conduit 52 which they follow the downward movement.
- a control kinematics with particular drive sprockets and belt
- the second are movable with the lower half-conduit 52 which they follow the downward movement.
- the control of the feeder 500 is ensured through a interface 64 with the control circuit 6 of the machine and different sensors (not shown) are conventionally provided to ensure a correct operation of this feeder, in particular to detect the presence of advertising inserts or envelopes in the store or else the entry and the advance in the transport path 50 of the machine (at the end of the selection by the sector for example).
- this second ferry feeding inserts or envelopes-responses can increase the loading capacity in inserts or envelopes-responses if only one of these two types of items only are required, subject to increasing all the loading capacity of empty envelopes.
- the positioning of this second tank, under the first, in the immediate vicinity of the central insertion zone the overall size of the machine is not not increased (or only in small proportions) and its architecture compact initial is thus preserved. Overall, the performances of the machine are improved while keeping it flexible to use initial.
