- the chamber body 1, the side parts 9, the arc chamber modules 4, 5 and the insulating parts 7 consist of electrically insulating, thermally stable material which has a high thermal capacity in order to be able to absorb the energy of the arc well and thus to extinguish the arc.
- the chamber body 1 can have a height of 40 cm, a width of 20 cm, and a depth of 40 cm. With these size ratios, both arc chamber modules 4, 5 are provided for a working voltage of 500 V.
- the large arcing chamber module 5 is provided for twice the output as the small arcing chamber module 4.
- the currents occurring in the arc chamber system according to the invention can be in the range of 100 kA.
- the quenching plates 8 and the insulating parts 7 are arranged between the side parts 9 such that the side parts 9 protrude at the rear and front ends relative to the quenching plates 8 and the insulating parts 7.

What is common to all of the arc chamber systems shown is the provision of a uniform cartridge body which can be provided with different assembly sets, the arc chamber system being able to be adapted to the working voltage and the required switching capacity by connecting several arc chambers in series.
- Each arc chamber can be equipped with a different number of arc chamber modules, irrespective of the dimensioning of the chamber body and the baffle plate widths, whereby the working voltage can be increased accordingly by the addition of several arc chambers.
- the arc chamber system can also be modified with regard to its switching capacity.
- a working voltage of, for example, 2000 V can be achieved both in the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 4 and in the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 5, but the switching power in the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 4 is lower than in the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 5.
- the arc chamber system shown can thus be adapted to a large number of different working voltages and a large number of different switching capacities.
- the arc chamber system shown is by no means limited to use with a DC switch, but can also be used in a comparable form with an AC switch.
