    by imparting to the operating rod or rods (5, 5A), through the actuating means (4), a displacement in the locking direction, said toothings (20, 21) act as cams on each other, leading to the withdrawal of the toothing (20) of said locking catch (14) against the action of springy restoring means (22);
    while an attempt of displacement of this or these operating rod or rods (5, 5A) in the unlocking direction causes these toothings (20, 21), because of their profile, to behave as stops impeding the operating rod or rods from moving in that unlocking direction.
  6. Espagnolette-lock according to any of the preceding claims, characterised in that the length (23) of the rack (15) is so determined that the locking catch (14) is capable of co-operating with this rack (15) under the action of the key member (12), irrespective of the position of the operating rod or rods (5, 5A).
  7. Espagnolette-lock according to any of claims 1 to 5, characterised in that it includes means (24) designed so as to be capable of impeding the co-operation between the locking catch (14) and the rack (15) over a travel distance (25) corresponding at most to the backlash existing between the location where the locking organ or organs normally enter into co-operation with the keeper or keepers and the locking organ or organs, when the operating rod or rods (5, 5A) are in unlocked position.
  8. Espagnolette-lock according to claim 7, characterised in that the means (24) are formed by a stop (26) capable of being positioned before the locking catch (14) when the operating rod or rods (5, 5A) are in unlocked position, thus impeding their blocking through this locking catch (14), the height of this stop (26) depending on said travel distance (25).

  10. Espagnolette-lock according to claim 7, characterised in that the tumbler (8) acting on the spring-bolt (27) substantially forms the manual actuating means (4) for the operating rod or rods (5, 5A).
