Definitions
- the invention relates to a refill cartridge for insertion in a refill device for inkjet printheads or Like. According to claim 1.
- Refill cartridges of this type are used in connection with refill devices for inkjet printheads, too Filling or refill stations, as they are called, for example have become known from EP 0 711 668 A2.
- the one described there The device is used for automated refilling of printheads for inkjet printers which as such Disposable products are designed. For this purpose, one is up provided a specific printhead, in which this can be used. After inserting the printhead and closing a protective flap can make the refill be started and runs automatically. Here becomes ink from a reservoir into the ink reservoir of the print head.
- the ink supply can be replaced in a refill cartridge stocked.
- the ink is contained in an ink bag, for easy and reliable handling of a dimensionally stable housing is included.
- an existing cannula on the device side a self-closing one Plug the refill cartridge so that on this way a fluid connection between the ink bag and the conveyor system of the device is manufactured.
- the refill cartridge can easily be replaced, the self-sealing property of the stopper being reliable prevents ink residues during handling can come out of the ink bag.
- the ink passes through a first opening, namely the ventilation opening of the ink reservoir.
- the incoming ink displaces the ink in the ink supply room Air through a second opening, namely the nozzle plate.
- this device comes largely from the device described above, wherein between the printhead and the refill cartridge another pump is provided to partially cover the ink reservoir of the printhead to evacuate.
- the extracted air is here the Environment.
- the pump needed to deliver the ink for evacuating the ink supply space of the printhead use what it is only a reversal of the conveying direction the pump needs.
- a valve must also be used in this case be controlled so that the extracted air during the Evacuation process is derived to the environment, whereas the fluid connection for the duration of the ink delivery for the refill cartridge. A significant simplification the constructive structure is still not in given a sufficient measure.
- refilling devices are also known become in which on a valve assembly of the above mentioned type is completely dispensed with.
- the air pumped out of the ink reservoir immediately into promoted the ink bag, which does this in a substantially upright position.
- the one in the ink bag Air that is carried in can be drawn through the ink supply rise through and collects above the liquid level of ink.
- Ink is drawn from the ink bag essentially without bubbles and the ink supply chamber of the printhead.
- the present invention was therefore based on the object through an appropriate measure to ensure that refill devices of the latter type safely and reliably can be operated without it being a special one Monitoring of the evacuation process is required.
- By simple Means should be ensured that even in the case of undesirable Leaks a burst of the ink bag reliably can be excluded.
- the invention is based on the idea of the refill cartridge a venting option for those from the ink supply room to provide pumped air that is readily pumped Operator intervention and without additional monitoring or Control devices is automatically activated.
- this is achieved by the fact that the ink containing Container interacts with a vent plug that is on the refill cartridge is present and that when the Refill cartridge in the refill device from one Vent cannula is pierceable, so that a connection made between the inside of the container and the environment is.
- the refill cartridge has a dimensionally stable housing, on which both the filler plug and the vent plug are fixed via fixing bars. This enables a safe Force application when the refill cartridge is plugged on the two cannulas is required. Because the needles for stability reasons have a comparatively large diameter, is the effort required to displace plug material comparatively high. It must therefore be ensured that the plugs are securely fixed to prevent damage to the to exclude the ink-containing container.
- the container is preferred for reasons of weight saving designed as an ink bag. Also is such a bag particularly inexpensive to manufacture, especially if it according to a further preferred variant of laminate film, for example based on aluminum, polyamide or Polyethylene. There are additional advantages in connection with the design of the refill cartridge dimensionally stable housing, because the ink bag due to the Flexibility can be brought into any desired form and thus also in the case of internals, cross-section changes and the like. Optimal use of the available standing space.
- a vent line in particular in form, is preferred of a flexible hose present at one end connected to the vent plug and to her other Sealed ends into the interior of the container.
- This Vent line allows placement of the vent plug at any point, for example in a position adjacent to the fill plug.
- Such Arrangement has the advantage that the two on the device side Cannulas, i.e. Filling cannula and ventilation cannula, side by side can be mounted on a common support or adapter can.
- the vent line can still be on the for the function optimal position, i.e. at the highest point of the Container (in the inserted state of the refill cartridge), flow, whereas the filler plug continues at the lowest point can remain.
- Another preferred variant provides a collecting medium for Ink placed in front of the vent plug is. When inserted, it surrounds the ventilation cannula in the area of an outlet opening for the emerging air and reliably catches entrained ink particles.
- a collecting medium is particularly inexpensive with an absorbent fleece (e.g. made of felt), that in a correspondingly shaped area of the dimensionally stable housing can be accommodated.
- the housing consists of two Housing parts that can be detached, in particular via snap arms, are interconnected.
- this allows one particularly simple assembly of the refill cartridge, whereby all components such as ink bags, stoppers, ventilation hose and fleece inserted in one of the two housing parts become.
- the second housing part is then attached and locked together without additional assembly means. After the ink supply has been used up - if applicable at the factory - the housing parts from each other to solve. After replacing the ink bag is the refill cartridge ready for use again.
- Unlocking members are preferred for covering the cannulas Safety flap available. This ensures that the Cannulas not accessible when refill cartridge is removed are. Risk of injury due to unintentional touch the cannula tips are prevented, as is the use of non-adapted refill cartridges.
- Unlocking elements in the form of Realize pins or pins that are molded on the outside of the housing are.
- depressions can be formed in the housing, in the locking devices on the device side when inserted intervention.
- the cartridge used securely fixed on the other hand, the snap arms are also at least largely when the refill cartridge is inserted relaxed state.
- the refill cartridge is intended for use in one here Refill device for print heads, not shown. It is corresponding in terms of shape and geometry designed for a corresponding slot so that it is inserted and held in an upright position like this is shown in Figure 1.
- a filling cannula 110 and a venting cannula are on the device side 120 present by a common cannula adapter 100 are worn.
- the filling cannula 110 is not in here connected in more detail with a pump.
- the ventilation cannula 120 has an outlet opening 122 so that a connection to the environment in the below is described in more detail. All Components of the refill cartridge are from a housing 50 added, which is carried out in two parts and over four Snap arms 59 is held together.
- pins 80 are integrally formed on the housing at the bottom, those for unlocking one covering the cannulas 110, 120 Serve safety flap.
- depressions 85 are formed in the housing, in the correspondingly designed locking elements in the form of Snap arms can intervene.
- the ink supply is enclosed in an ink bag 40, which is inserted into the housing 50.
- the ink bag 40 will penetrated sealingly below by a connecting flange 11 which carries the fill plug 10.
- the connecting flange 11 is on the housing 50 fixed via a fixing web 51.
- connecting flange 11 Opposite the connecting flange 11 is another connecting flange 31 provided, the ink bag 40 in turn penetrated sealed.
- the connecting flange 31 is also on Housing 50 fixed via a fixing web 53.
- a hose 60 is attached to the the end opposite the connecting flange 31 with one Connection flange 21 is connected.
- the connecting flange 21 carries a vent plug 20 and is by means of a fixing web 52 fixed to the housing 50.
- a molded in the housing 50 Deflection web 56 ensures a kink-free course of the hose 60 between the connecting flanges 31 and 21.
- the refill cartridge works as follows.
- the pump of the refilling device first sucks air from the ink reservoir of the also not shown printhead and passes this over the filling cannula 110 to the ink bag 40.
- the supplied air rises in the ink bag 40 upwards and leaves it through the Hose 60 through. From there, the air gets inside the venting cannula 120 and leaves it via the outlet opening 122. Since the housing 50 is not sealed airtight , the air exiting through the outlet opening 122 be fed directly into the environment.
- the feed pump is reversed and sucks the ink in the ink bag 40 over the Filling cannula 110 to the ink reservoir of the printhead. As soon as the desired amount is delivered, the feed pump shut down.
- the refill cartridge can be used for a longer period Period must remain in the refilling device be replaced only when the ink supply in the ink bag 40 is used up. For this, the refill cartridge withdrawn from the cannulas 110, 120 upwards. When sliding out the cannulas 110, 120 from the plugs 10, 20 is not Get dripping of ink because the plugs 10, 20 are out a self-sealing material, so that the The puncture point of the cannula is sealed again.
- the refill cartridge is thus capable of any malfunctions due to damaged printheads or device-side To survive leaks in the pipe system without damage.
- this air can theoretically in any amount supplied to the ink bag 40 and blown off to the environment via the ventilation cannula 120 become.
- the ink bag burst due to exceeding the maximum capacity is excluded.
