Definitions
- the invention relates to a tape for use in a Tape printing device, with a printable image receiving layer and a peelable back layer.
- Tape printing devices with which the present invention is concerned are known. You work with a stock to be printed Tape and means for transferring the image to the tape.
- a cartridge contains a supply of the tape to be printed and a supply of an image transfer tape.
- the ribbon to be printed and the image transfer ribbon (Ribbon) are stacked on top of each other through a print area of the Tape printing device led.
- a tape printing device that comes with a Cassette of this type works, e.g. in EP-A-0267890 (Varitronics, Inc.). Other pressure equipment was made in which letters are dry-inscribed or dry film impression process on an image receiving tape be transmitted.
- a cassette contains one Supply of ribbon to be printed, supply of ribbon and a supply of self-adhesive backing tape.
- the back band has an adhesive layer that is in contact with the image receiving layer is to bring a substrate layer and a second adhesive layer with a peelable backing layer is covered.
- the letters appear as a reflection the transparent image-receiving layer is printed on.
- EP-A-0 692 387 proposes a belt according to the preamble of claim 1 on which a clear end tape is attached so that the tape printing device Detect the end of the ribbon using an optical sensor can.
- US 4 983 058 is a tape cassette of the one from EP-A-0 322 919 known type described in which a special end band glued to the end of the image receiving tape, or an indicator mark for the approaching end of the tape on the image receiving tape or the self-adhesive backing tape is printed.
- a special end band glued to the end of the image receiving tape, or an indicator mark for the approaching end of the tape on the image receiving tape or the self-adhesive backing tape is printed.
- an information of the Users can use the empty cassette, and also are the markings can also be seen on the finished label, so that it is worthless to the user.
- a disadvantage of the known tape cassettes is therefore that Band is exposed to light, which is particularly true for direct thermal material is disadvantageous or that it is difficult to see how much tape is left over.
- the present invention is based on the prior art the task of creating a tape for use in a To create tape printing device, which is characterized in that it allows the user to see how much tape at any time remained.
- the essence of the invention is the back layer of the To provide the tape with means that the remaining on the stock Show amount on tape.
- the back layer which is disposed of after being peeled off the label was equipped with these funds.
- the valuable image reception layer is therefore not with unwanted markings Mistake.
- the user is thus informed in good time if the tape is nearing the end. He can therefore, if necessary Buy a new tape cassette.
- this invention not only on direct thermal print cartridges, but also for Thermal transfer cartridges, the ribbon in the cartridge or record in a separate housing, is usable. she can also be used for ribbons using the inkjet printing process be printed.
- the means for displaying the length of the remaining in stock Band can be a diagonal, on the back layer printed line include, the diagonal line in the essentially from a corner at the beginning of the tape supply to one opposite corner at the end of the tape supply extends. If the tape is printed and thus unwound from stock, the distance of the printed line from the side changes Edge of the tape. The user who is on a particular Place looking at the tape (e.g. at the tape outlet of the cassette), can easily be determined by the position of the diagonally printed line judge whether his cassette is almost empty or not.
- the color of the back layer can match the color that is achieved when the printhead prints on the tape.
- the color of the diagonal line can match the color of the achieved Pressure.
- the color of the Back layer of the background color of the image receiving layer correspond (ie. the color of the unprinted image-receiving layer).
- the user can see the Color of the image receiving tape, the color of a printed image and see how much tape is left.
- the back layer have a Section at its rear end, which is visually distinct from the remaining back layer differs. This is to indicate that the tape is now close to its end.
- this section can, for example, five average labels of correspond to about 5 cm in length.
- the tape is usually in a cassette contain.
- the latter can be equipped with a window be that extends across the width of the belt so that the Backing layer along with the means for displaying the Length of the tape remaining in the stock is recognizable. Then the diagonal line acts as a pointer to indicate how much tape is left.
- the window could be in a side wall the cassette that is exposed (i.e. not from the housing of the printer is covered), or it can be blocked by a Slot in the housing of the tape printing device.
- Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a cassette receiving space a tape printing device.
- the cassette recording room is represented by the dashed line 2. It contains a thermal printhead 4 and a platen 6 which cooperate and define a pressure zone P in a manner known per se.
- the print head 4 is pivotable about a pivot point 8 stored so that it can be brought into contact with the pressure roller 6 is and can be moved away from the pressure roller 6 to a Take out and replace the cassette 10.
- a cassette inserted in the cassette accommodating space 2 becomes represented by reference numeral 10.
- the cassette 10 contains a supply wrap 12 with tape 14 to be printed, the an image receiving layer 31 comprising an adhesive layer attached to a back layer 32 (see Figure 2) is.
- the tape 14 to be printed is not by one guided guide mechanism shown through the cassette 10, and leaves the cassette shortly after it has passed the printing zone through an outlet O to lead to a cutting zone C. become. Since the ribbon 14 is a direct thermal ribbon, contains the cassette 10 has no ribbon supply spool and no take-up ribbon take-up spool.
- the tape 14 to be printed runs through the printing zone P with its image-receiving layer 31 in contact with the print head 4.
- the printing roller driven so that it rotates and the printable Band 14 leads through the printing zone during the printing process.
- the tape 14 is printed and from the printing zone to Cutting zone C out.
- the cutting zone C is on the wall of the Cassette 10 is provided near the printing zone P. Since volume 14 pulled out of the cassette 10 by the drive of the pressure roller 6 no further belt advance mechanism is required; the cutting zone C is located near the printing zone P.
- the section of the wall of the cassette 10 at which the cutting zone C is defined, is represented by reference numeral 22.
- a slot 24 is provided in this wall section. That too printing tape 14 is from the printing zone P to the cutting zone P spent where it is on both sides of opposite wall sections the slot 24 is supported.
- the tape printing device includes a cutting mechanism which is by reference numeral 26 is reproduced.
- This cutting mechanism 26 comprises a cutter holder 28 which has a blade 30 wearing. This blade 30 cuts the tape 14 and then occurs in the slot 24.
- Figure 1 shows the cutting mechanism 26 in its operational position, ie. with spaced from the tape 14 Blade 30. This allows the free end of the band 14 to be driven through the cutting zone C without the risk of to get caught in it, or to be distracted in it.
- FIG 2 shows a tape 14 according to the present invention for Use in the tape printing device shown in Figure 1.
- the Basic construction of the belt 14 includes an image receiving layer 31 and a peelable backing layer 32 attached to it attached by an adhesive layer, not shown in the drawing is.
- the tape printing device prints by means of the print head 4 1 shows an image on the image receiving layer 31, which the lower layer in Figure 2.
- Figure 3 shows the back layer of a tape 14 after the present invention.
- the line extends from the lower corner at the beginning of the Band almost to the top corner at the end of the band.
- the line 33 ends at a distance D before the final end of the tape on the upper edge of the band 14, since at the end portion of the Band a section 34 is provided with the length D, the visually differs from the rest of the back layer 32. This is done by printing on the back layer during the production of the tape 14 reached.
- the purpose of this Section 34 is to indicate to the user that it is on is the time to buy a new cassette.
- the length D can correspond to about five average labels, each e.g. Can be 5 cm long. It should be noted that Figure 3 is not to scale because the tape length is between about 3 and 7 m, and the bandwidth between about 6 and 24 mm.
- Figure 4 shows the cassette of Figure 1, in which the tape of the figure 3 is used.
- One that extends across the width of the tape Window 35 is in a side wall of cassette 10 arranged and allows the user to back layer 32 to see the tape 14 with the printed line 33, or the End section 34 when the tape supply 12 is almost empty. Since that Tape 14 is guided close to the side wall of the cassette 10, and only the back layer 32 is visible, the cassette remains 10 almost light-tight; an unwanted exposure of the Volume 14 is avoided. If the tape 14 during printing is processed from the stock 12, the position of the moves line 33 gradually visible through the window 35 above, showing the amount of tape remaining.
- Figure 5 illustrates window 35 in more detail. At its bottom The end is a mark “full” and at its top At the end a “empty” marker is provided, see above that no user confusion about the meaning of the line 33 takes place.
