Definitions
- the invention relates to methods and an apparatus for electrolytic Pickling of metallic strips, especially stainless steel strips, Bands of titanium, aluminum or nickel, the electric current indirect, i.e. without electrically conductive contact between the belt and Electrodes through which tape is passed.
- the so-called “neutral electrolyte” process is usually used for pickling cold-rolled stainless steel strips.
- the tension is indirectly influenced on the tape. This means that there are no points of contact between any current rollers and the belt.
- Another feature of this method is that the anodes and cathodes are completely covered with electrolyte and are arranged horizontally, ie they are horizontal flooded cells.
- AT-PS 373 922 a method for the electrolytic electroplating of tape is known. This is a vertical arrangement of the electrodes.
- the electrolyte liquid is led into the gap between the anodes and the ribbon.
- the voltage is stamped directly on the tape - the cathodes are designed as current rollers.
- An advantageous development of the invention is characterized in that the distance between the anodes and cathodes can be changed as a function of the strip dimension. What is achieved here is that the maximum current yield at the lowest voltage can be achieved with different strip dimensions. If the anode and cathode are arranged too close to one another, there is a direct current flow. On the other hand, the voltage drop in the strip increases with their distance. This voltage drop is naturally related to the cross-section of the strip. There is therefore an optimal distance for each band dimension.
- a favorable embodiment of the invention is characterized in that the amount of electrolyte applied in the gap between the electrodes and the strip is regulated.
- the band can be hydraulically stabilized exactly in the middle between the electrodes.
- the distance between electrodes and band can be reduced to a minimum.
- An advantageous variant of the invention is characterized in that the temperature, electrolyte concentration and the charge density (Coulomb per unit area) are specifically adjusted to the strip to be pickled. As a result, the pickling conditions can be optimally adjusted to every strip dimension, line speed, treatment time, type of scale, etc.
- An advantageous embodiment of the invention is characterized in that the gap between the electrodes and the band is changed. So the distance can be easily adapted to the band ripple.
- a favorable further development of the invention is characterized in that the band ripple is determined and the electrodes are removed from the band, so that contact between the band and the electrode is avoided.
- the invention also relates to a device for the electrolytic pickling of metallic strips, in particular stainless steel strips, strips made of titanium, aluminum or nickel, the electrical current being passed through the strip indirectly, ie without electrically conductive contact between the strip and electrodes. It is characterized in that the band runs vertically and a vertical gap is provided between the electrodes and the band, into which electrolyte liquid is introduced.
- the vertical arrangement of the cell saves space. The space requirement is approx. 2 m compared to 8 m for conventional systems. Furthermore, a very good tape guidance results from the fact that the tape has no sag.
- a favorable development of the invention is characterized in that the anodes and cathodes are arranged offset to one another in the direction of the strip, ie the strip runs between two opposite anodes or two opposite cathodes. This results in a uniform current flow at the edge of the strip and thus a uniform pickling effect.
- An advantageous embodiment of the invention is characterized in that the anode surface, or the anodes entirely, are preferably made of lead, or lead alloys, or iridium oxide or graphite. The material from which the anodes are made results in a chemical passivation against the anodic attack of the electrolyte anions.
- Electrode with sulfate ions (SO 4 2- ) and iridium oxide with sulfate and / or chloride ions (Cl - ) are preferably used.
- Graphite with various anions or mixtures thereof can also be used.
- An advantageous variant of the invention is characterized in that a control device for the electrolyte feed quantity is provided, wherein a separate control device can be provided for each liquid channel between the strip and the electrode.
- a separate control device can be provided for each liquid channel between the strip and the electrode.
- This allows the flow to be adapted to the bandwidth and can also be optimally adjusted for bands of different widths.
- the resultant hydraulic guiding of the band allows the position of the band to be set specifically between the electrodes.
- Conventional systems usually require two rectifiers per cell - one for the underside of the band and one for the top of the band.
- a rectifier for one or more cells can be installed.
- a favorable embodiment of the invention is characterized in that a device for adjusting or regulating the distance between the anodes and cathodes is provided.
- the adjustable distance between the anode and cathode enables the current flow to be adjusted and, subsequently, the electricity costs to be reduced.
- An advantageous development of the invention is characterized in that a device for adjusting the gap between the band and the electrode is provided. So the distance can be easily adapted to the band ripple.
- a favorable variant of the invention is characterized in that a device for detecting the band ripple is provided which is connected to the setting device for the electrodes. This prevents contact between the strip and the electrodes, which could lead to short circuits.
- the rectifier current was increased at a constant system speed of approx. 50 m / min. With a current of 6000A (4x1500 A) the belt was completely free of scale. With a current application of 8000 A there was an improved gloss of the strip surface. Here, with a current density of approx. 200 A / dm 2 , there were no problems in the cell with electrolyte overheating, excessive local heating of the strip or insufficient gas discharge. The evaluation of the tests also consisted of determining the uniformity of the current application. This was done through the gloss and color measurements. It was found that the fluctuations were not larger than that of the starting material. The particularly scaled band edges were completely descaled.
- FIG. 1 shows the diagram of a conventional pickling plant with neutral electrolyte
- FIG. 2 shows a plant using the method according to the invention
- FIG. 3 shows a cell according to the invention.
- Fig. 1 shows a pickling tank 1 according to the prior art.
- the metal strip 2 is passed through the electrolyte 3, for example Na 2 SO 4 , between the cathodes 4 and anodes 5.
- the distance between the electrodes and the band is usually about 70 to 150 mm, the band 2 having a certain sag, which can be reduced by support rollers, for example in the middle of the system.
- the electrolyte 3 is fed from a pump 7 via a line 6 into the pickling tank 1 and, via a line 8, for example into an intermediate tank 9, from where the electrolyte 3 is recirculated.
- 2 shows a system with a decoiler 11 and a decoiler 18, which make it possible to pull the strip through the treatment at a speed of up to 60 m / min.
- the treatment consists of chemical degreasing 12 in order to be able to clean the oiled strip and an electrolytic cell 13.
- the cell is connected to 4 rectifiers. Each of them has an output of max. 3000A / 32 V.
- the arrangement of the electrodes 15, 16 was chosen so that only one anode (15) - cathode (16) pair is connected to a rectifier.
- the belt 2 is deflected here via rollers 14, 14 '.
- Fig. 3 shows an electrolytic cell according to the invention.
- the metallic band 2 e.g. B. stainless steel strip, is guided into the gap between the electrodes 15, 16.
- Each pair of anodes (15) and cathodes (16) is connected to a rectifier 19.
- the electrodes, for example the cathode 16 can be moved in the direction 20 so that the distance between the anode 15 and the cathode 16 can be adjusted. This enables optimal use of electricity.
- the electrolyte is in turn pump 7 via a line 6, lines 21, 21 ', 21'',21''' being provided which separate the electrolyte 3 into the columns 24, 24 ', 24'',24''' feed between the electrodes 15, 16 and the band 2.
- the electrolyte feed can now be adapted to the required conditions by regulating elements 22, 22 ', 22'',22''.
- the electrolyte 3 is collected in the lower part 23 of the electrolytic cell 13 and in turn fed to the pump 7.
- the new cell has higher performance than the conventional ones. With the same electrical power, the lower voltage drop means that more current can be conducted through the belt.
- the new cell is designed in terms of fluid mechanics so that very high mass transfer numbers and heat transfer values are achieved. This is due to a high level of turbulence due to the small gap between the electrodes and the strip and the strip movement, ie the dissolved metals and the heat are removed very effectively from the reaction zone.
- the main advantage of the cell according to the invention over the flooded cell according to the prior art lies in the better tape guidance and the higher mass and heat exchange. this results in a higher pickling performance.
- the conventional cells have a rectifier output of 11000 A (2 x 5500). Depending on the distance between electrodes and tape (approx. 50 - 150 mm), the voltage drop is between 25 and 40 V.
- the cell according to the invention can transfer 50,000 A to the band at approximately 17 V.
- the invention is not limited by the embodiments shown. Rather, all known variants of the circuit and arrangement of the electrodes, such as corresponding polarization or shorter anodes and longer cathodes to increase the chemical treatment, can also be used analogously.

Abstract
