    4. Method according to Claim 3, characterized in that the compensation force is a force which acts over an area and which, on its own or predominantly, compensates for the inherent weight of the reel (3) produced and of the drum (1, 1.1, 1.2).
    5. Method according to either of Claims 3 and 4, characterized in that a compensation device (4) for applying the compensation force acts on the reel (3) in the main winding position and is moved vertically in accordance with the growth of the reel in the main winding position.
    6. Method according to one of the preceding claims, characterized by the following features:
      6.1 the reel (3) produced executes a movement which has a horizontal component;

    9. Method according to Claim 5, characterized in that the compensation device (4), together with the drum (1, 1.1, 1.2) and the reel (3) produced, executes a horizontal movement.
    10. Method according to one of the preceding claims, characterized by the following features:

      11.5 the reel (3) produced and the central drive (11) can be moved by a certain distance, which has a horizontal component, into a main winding position after the start of winding;
      11.6 in the main winding position, the reel (3) is wound to a finish and is brought into contact with at least one further pressure element (7.3);
      11.7 provision is made for a carriage (9) for moving the reel (3) produced and the central drive (11), and also a guide track (6) for guiding the carriage (9) during the horizontal movement;
      11.8 in the main winding position, the reel (3) is brought into contact with at least one further pressure element (7.3) which extends over the web width.
    12. Apparatus according to Claim 11, characterized in that the apparatus has a compensation device (4), which, predominantly or on its own, compensates for the weight of the reel (3) produced and of the drum (1, 1.1, 1.2) and which acts on the circumferential surface of the reel (3).
    13. Apparatus according to Claim 12, characterized in that the compensation device (4) is a device which acts over an area on the circumferential surface of the reel (3) produced.
    14. Apparatus according to Claim 12 or 13, characterized in that the compensation device (4) can be moved in the vertical direction in accordance with the growth of the reel.
    15. Apparatus according to Claim 14, characterized in that the compensation device (4), together with the drum (1, 1.1, 1.2) and the reel (3) produced, can likewise be moved in the horizontal direction.
    16. Apparatus according to one of Claims 12 to 15, characterized in that the compensation device (4) comprises a pressing device (10) which relieves the load on the reel (3) and serves as a pressure element (7.3) for squeezing out air.
