Definitions

  • the invention relates to a downhill ski binding comprising a base plate having holes for the passage of fixing screws of the plate base to a ski, said screws bearing exclusively on the base plate on which a shoe retainer and ski brake removable including a base, assembled to the plate basic by at least one rotary assembly element, and at least one brake arm.
  • a fixing in which the brake base can be also provisionally pre-assembled to the plate base of the fixing by means of a screw, so that the binding can be delivered completely assembled to retailers.
  • the binding is mounted on the ski by means of screws, two of which pass through the base of brake and take support on this brake base. The mounting the pre-assembled fastening can therefore be done very quickly, but the ski brake comes off unscrewing, on the one hand, its fastening screw to the base plate and, on the other hand, the two screws securing the binding to the ski.
  • an unscrewing and a repeated screwing of the fixing screws of the binding to the ski have the effect of enlarging the thread formed in the non-metallic material of the ski during first screwing, so that the screws take play and no longer provide secure retention of the fastener skiing.
  • the object of the present invention is to provide a fastener likely to be delivered to the retailer fully assembled, i.e. with the brake ski assembled to the base plate of the element fixing, and also allowing, after mounting of the fixation on the ski, to easily remove the brake ski without touching the screws holding the binding on the skiing and without this being detrimental to good restraint brake on the binding.
  • the ski binding according to the invention is characterized in that the removable brake base has access clearances to the screws securing the base plate to the ski allowing the passage of a tightening tool to access said screw, so that the screwing on the ski brake base plate assembly possible, brake pre-assembled.
  • the brake base can be assembled to the plate base by two rotating fixing elements or more, but it is preferably retained at the base plate, on the one hand, by hooking and, on the other part, by a single rotary assembly element.
  • the rotary assembly element may be a screw or a cylindrical quarter-turn assembly stud or all analogous element.
  • the blocking of this element can be provided by a notch at the end of the race.
  • Such a binding is generally provided with a sole made of elastomer placed under the base plate.
  • This sole can be advantageously used to retain the screws securing the base plate to the ski before mounting the binding on a ski.
  • the ski brake can thus be removed and reassembled without prejudice to the retention of the ski binding.
  • Figure 1 is an elevational side view of a rear fixing equipped with its brake, as delivered to retailers.
  • Figure 2 is a partial top view of the brake part of figure 1.
  • Figure 3 is a sectional view along III-III of the part shown in Figure 2.
  • Figure 4 is a sectional view along IV-IV of the same part shown in Figure 2.
  • the attachment shown in Figure 1 is such that it is delivered assembled to retailers.
  • This fixation consists of a base plate 1 on which are mounted, on the one hand, a heel piece 2 consisting of body 3, adjustable in position on the base plate 1 and provided with a jaw 4 intended to hold the heel a shoe, and, on the other hand, a ski brake consisting of two brake arms 6 articulated on a brake base 5 and provided with a pedal 7 ensuring the raising the brake arms 6 against the action of a spring when the binding is fitted.
  • Fixation is additionally provided with at least two pairs of screws 8 and 9 for its connection to skiing.
  • the base plate 1 made of steel, is present under the base brake 5, two holes 10, on either side of its longitudinal axis, holes formed by cutting, stamping (figure 3). These holes 10 are intended for receive the pair of screws 8 whose head comes to rest on the protuberance formed by stamping. Under the base plate 1 is bonded, in known manner, a sole 11 of elastomeric material. This sole 11 is used here to retain screws 8 and 9 in the pre-assembled position shown in Figure 1.
  • the brake base 5 is in the form of a casing made of material plastic crossed by the bent parts 6a of the arms brake 6 and by the articulation axis of the link pedal 7 on the base.
  • This base 5 presents a part 5a forming a cover covering the plate base 1 above its holes 10.
  • This part 5a has two holes 12 and 13 respectively superimposed to each of the screws 8. The diameter of these holes 12 and 13 is sufficient to allow the passage of a screwing for screwing screws 8. This diameter is therefore independent of the diameter of the screw heads 8. It could therefore be less than the diameter of the heads of screws 8, so that these screws 8 are also prevented from escaping by the brake base they are retained or not by the sole 11.
  • the base plate 1 On its longitudinal median axis, the base plate 1 also has a base 14 provided with a threaded hole into which is screwed a screw 15 whose head is supported on the bottom of a counterbore 16 formed in the upper face of the brake base 5.
  • the base of brake 5 is also retained on the base plate 1 by a pair of lugs 17 cut from the plate base 1 and having a part approximately parallel to base plate 1 and directed towards the end of the base plate.
  • Brake base 5 just hang under the lugs 17 by a cross 18 ( Figure 4) also used to close the housing bent parts 6a constituting the axes of articulation of the brake arms 6 in the base of brake.
  • the brake base can therefore be pre-assembled at the base plate 1 by hooking under the lugs 17, then by blocking by means of screw 15.
  • the fixing can then be mounted on a ski. After mounting, it in principle is no longer necessary to have access to the screws 8, so that the holes 12 and 13 can be closed by plugs 19, plugs which could have any other form than that shown.
  • the brake can be removed from the fixture by simply unscrewing the screw 15.
  • the hooking by lugs 17 could be replaced by any other fitting method or by screws similar to screw 15, but the method of attachment shown has the advantage of not interfering with the passage of the bent parts of the brake arms 6 in the brake base 5.
  • the access clearances formed by holes 12 and 13 could have a different shape, for example example a notch shape cut in the edge rear of the brake base.
