Definitions
- the subject of the invention is a method of treatment aqueous effluents such as those containing radioactive metal ions.
- the aqueous media intended to be treated by the process in accordance with the invention contain radioactive metal ions at a concentration of less than 10 -5 moles per liter in the case of radioactive cations; their radiochemical activity can reach 2500 MBq / t (megabecquerel per ton), or even more.
- the radioactive metal ions in question are in particular silver of atomic mass 110, cobalt 60, cobalt 58, cesium 137, cesium 134, potassium 40, antimony 124.
- the aqueous media of the genus in question are those which come from the technical fields implementing radioactive material.
- radioactive effluents from medical centers, research centers or even reactors nuclear.
- PWR type plants water reactor pressurized
- the cooling water from the circuit primary contains different radioactive metallic isotopes in solution.
- liquid effluents play an important role in processing procedures for possible storage or with a view to being brought into contact with the natural environment.
- non-active SER water is discharged into a sewer system designated by SEK, which means "collection of secondary circuit effluents"; it is kept in a SEK tank.
- Effluent received in SEK or KER tanks are analyzed from a radiochemical point of view in order to count all elements and radioelements.
- patent application FR 93 08789 filed by the Applicant on July 16, 1993 described among other things a purification and / or recovery process of metal ions contained in a solution, this process using a filter which uses a support material carbon-based conductor coated with conductive polymer including ethereal encryption cages, the solution percolating through this filter.
- the invention therefore aims to provide a method and an adsorbent element capable of reducing, in excellent economic conditions, the activity radiochemical of a radioactive effluent of the kind in question and in particular of those having already been treated in conventional demineralization installations, up to a value less than or equal to that from which said effluent can legally be rejected.
- the Applicant has the merit of having found that, surprisingly and unexpectedly it is possible not only to decrease the radiochemical activity of such aqueous effluent up to more radiochemical activities weaker than those generally obtained by means of processes according to the prior art but, moreover, to achieve this result in a simpler, more economical and more effective than in the prior art, as soon as one uses, in a treatment for the elimination of the radiochemical activity of said effluent, an element adsorbent based on petroleum coke granules; in in some cases it may be necessary to complete the aforementioned treatment by a second treatment by means of the filter described in patent application No. 93 08789.
- the result obtained using the adsorbent element made from petroleum coke granules is all the more surprising and unexpected that the coke granules of petroleum are neither known nor for their complexing properties metal ions in nuclear chemistry, nor for their adsorbent properties towards ions in question.
- the method according to the invention comprises a third step consisting of a regeneration of the filters used in the first and second steps using a elution solution of acidic pH, which provides an eluate concentrated in radioactive isotopes which is compatible with conventional effluent treatment systems and which is reintroduced in these conventional systems.
- adsorbent element based on petroleum coke granules
- good results are obtained with those used in the aluminum industry and in particular by the company ALUMINUM PECHINEY; these petroleum coke granules have, on the one hand, a particle size which is generally from 0.1 to 10, preferably from 1 to 7 and, more preferably still, from 2 to 5 mm; their specific surface is approximately 0.2 m 2 per 100 g.
- the filter according to the invention used in the first step of the process according to the invention is characterized by the fact that it comprises an element adsorbent based on petroleum coke granules; these petroleum coke granules are preferably contained in a tank equipped with an inlet and an outlet so to be able to ensure percolating flow of the liquid.
- This filter thus formed is particularly suitable for ion retention treatments radioactive metals contained in an aqueous medium or effluent of the genus in question.
- the particles are contained in a tank constituting a filter cartridge fitted, too, an inlet and an outlet for percolating flow liquid.
- This filter can, for example, be made up by a volume electrode on which the deposit of the encrypting polymer.
- PRIAM process the volume electrode used in the context of the industrial recovery process applied to metals (PRIAM process), developed by the Applicant and described in its patent FR 90 03952.
- polymers used are characterized by polymer chains containing a plurality of pyrrole or thiophene rings, where appropriate both at the same time and interconnected between them via 2,2 'bonds, on the one hand, and polyether chains corresponding in particular to the formulas with m equal to 3, 4 or 5, these chains being themselves linked by their own ends 3.3 ′ of these pyrrole or thiophene rings, or, in the case of pyrrole rings, to their nitrogen atoms.
- Electroplating is performed in the absence of any trace of metal in ionic form or which may be complexed and, advantageously, the electrolyte comprises anionic tetraalkylammonium salts.
- the monomers from which the the above polymers consist of a polyether comprising at least minus three ether patterns and pyrrole patterns or thiophene linked to the ends of the chains of this polyether via, for each of these heterocyclic compounds, either of their carbon atoms in them 3.3 'positions of their heterocycles, that is, with relates more particularly to pyrrole groups, for example through their respective nitrogen atoms, the positions 2 and 2 'of these heterocycles being however free of all substitutions or at most substituted by easily removable groups (groups of protection for example).
- the polyether chains entering into the constitution of the monomer are linear and contain ether units preferably of the type with p being an integer of 2 or 3 and n being an integer of 3 to 5, these chains being in ⁇ and in ⁇ with pyrrols or thiophene units.
- These monomers can carry an acid group, especially carboxylic or sulfonic, in the positions 3 'of their heterocyclic groups.
- They can be in the form of pyrrolylealcaline salt or thiophenyl-alkali, in particular of pyrrolyl salt or potassium thiophenyl.
- regeneration is carried out by percolating a dilute strong acid solution (pH close to 1).
- regeneration is carried out as described in the patent application FR 93 08789.
- the acid regenerating eluates containing a solution concentrated in radioactive ions can then be treated either in an evaporator or in a unit conventional demineralization since the concentration of the eluate in its various isotopes is compatible with the operating range of these conventional installations; in the latter case, it is necessary to fix the pH of the eluate to a value compatible with those which may exist in demineralization units.
- the radioactive effluent treatment process according to the present invention therefore comes in complement to conventional systems by evaporation and / or by demineralization.
- the process in accordance with the invention does not create short or radioactive waste middle term; it is therefore much more economical.
- a filter 1 according to the invention consisting by a polypropylene tank 2, which contains 100 g of petroleum coke granules 3; these granules have a particle size between 2 and 5 mm; these are the ones used by the ALUMINUM PECHINEY Company.
- the filter thus formed is placed in a circuit closed hydraulic system comprising a tank 4 which contains the effluent 5 to be treated and a hydraulic pump 6 intended to collect the radioactive effluent through line 7 and to route it through a pipe 8 to the filter 1; after passing through filter 1, the treated effluent is brought back to the reservoir 4 by a pipe 9.
- the effluent is circulated for 35 hours in the above circuit; three samples are taken with one frequency of approximately 5 minutes during the first fifteen minutes, then three more samples with frequency 15 minutes until the end of the first hour; of samples are then taken every 30 minutes until the fifteenth hour, then every hour until the end of the experience.
- the implementation of the first step of the process according to the invention makes it possible to reduce 95% the activity of a highly radioactive effluent; But the threshold of 10 MBq / t from which the effluent can be rejected, is not reached.
- the effluent is circulated as described in the example 1 and samples are taken every hour for the first five hours and then about every 8 p.m. until the end of the experience, i.e. 280th hour.
- this first stage of the process is particularly effective in this case for the retention of money since it reduces 99% of the effluent's silver activity.
- This effluent is subjected to the second stage of the method according to the invention using the installation of the Figure 1 in which the filter is constituted as the filter 1, with the difference that, this time, the adsorbent element consists of 100 g of granules of graphite covered by 5 grams of the polymer, the form is indicated at the top of page 17 of the request for patent FR 93 08789; the particle size of these granules is between 2 and 5 mm.

Description
- dans une première éventualité, l'eau est polluée chimiquement et non active radiochimiquement (activité radio-chimique inférieure à 10 MBq/t, s'agissant ici d'une valeur imposée à l'E.D.F. en 1994 pour les rejets aqueux sortant des centrales nucléaires); elle est considérée comme un effluent "plancher" et est évacuée directement vers une enceinte KER, ce qui signifie "réservoir de contrôle avant rejet";
- dans une deuxième éventualité, l'eau est chargée radiochimiquement (activité radiochimique supérieure à 10 MBq/t) et non polluée chimiquement (la concentration en métaux est inférieure à 14 ppm); elle est considérée comme un effluent résiduaire et est traitée sur déminéraliseurs jusqu'à ce que l'activité radiochimique soit inférieure à 10 MBq/t; à ce moment, cet effluent est rejeté vers KER;
- soit on les stocke dans l'attente de la décroissance naturelle de l'activité due aux différents isotopes (par exemple, la durée de demi-vie de l'argent 110 est de 250 jours);
- soit on les renvoie sur l'unité d'évaporation; ce type de traitement est économiquement très pénalisant en raison de la faible activité de l'effluent traité, ce qui occasionne une perte en rendement de l'évaporateur;
