Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a new binding method.
For a very long time, men have made bindings to make either books, or volumes or registers of all thicknesses and all formats. To do this, the prior art, which has not evolved for many years, consists, after stacking the different sheets or sheets, of gluing the back, then applying a canvas or d 'a seam with linen thread. This results in poor resistance of the binding which, after several successive openings, causes a tear and a rapid deterioration of the book or the register which, sometimes, must be subjected to numerous manipulations. This is, for example, the case of registers of official documents such as civil status notices or notarial acts.
The present invention therefore seeks to solve the drawbacks encountered with traditional bookbinding methods and proposes a new method according to which glue is made to penetrate between the edges of the sheets at the level of the bookbinding, this operation being done by rocking.
Thus, according to the invention, the method for binding a set of sheets or notebooks, is characterized in that it consists in penetrating binding glue between each of the sheets at the edge of the plane of the back of said binding.
According to an additional characteristic, the penetration of the glue between the sheets is done by rocking front and rear, thus allowing a gluing of the edges of the sheets, that is to say that this operation forces the glue to be placed between all the sheets in the border area of the back. Also, before the actual rocking operation, the back is glued with binding glue.
According to another additional characteristic of the binding process, in a step made before gluing the back, a process is carried out. assembly of the edges of the leaves by a seam made with a thread of elastic material, such as latex covered with textile fibers, as under the registered trademark LASTEX.
- dans une première étape ou étape préliminaire représentée à la figure 1, on aligne toutes les bordures des feuilles du côté où doit être faite la reliure, de façon à préparer un bloc dont le dos se trouve dans un plan perpendiculaire au plan général de chacune des feuilles ;
- dans la deuxième étape, on procède au collage d'un onglet, à savoir, un premier onglet sur la première page, et un deuxième onglet sur la dernière page ;
- dans la troisième étape, on pratique par perçage à l'aide d'un faîte de faible diamètre une succession de trous dans la totalité de l'épaisseur du volume ;
- dans la quatrième étape, on utilise un fil élastique, par exemple en latex, pour exécuter une sorte de couture par passages successifs du fil élastique dans les différents trous ;
- dans la cinquième étape, on colle une feuille de garde sur chacune des feuilles extérieures ;
- dans la sixième et septième étape, on procède au collage et au berçage du dos en procédant à un encollage du dos avec de la colle relativement fluide en plaçant les feuilles en éventail, puis à un berçage en avant et en arrière du dos encollé ;
- in a first step or preliminary step shown in Figure 1, align all the edges of the sheets on the side where the binding must be done, so as to prepare a block whose back is in a plane perpendicular to the general plane of each of leaves;
- in the second step, we proceed to the pasting of a tab, namely, a first tab on the first page, and a second tab on the last page;
- in the third stage, a succession of holes is drilled through the entire diameter of the volume by drilling with a ridge of small diameter;
- in the fourth step, an elastic thread, for example made of latex, is used to carry out a sort of sewing by successive passages of the elastic thread in the different holes;
- in the fifth step, we stick a cover sheet on each of the outer sheets;
- in the sixth and seventh step, the back is glued and rocked by gluing the back with relatively fluid glue by placing the leaves in a fan, then rocking in front and behind the glued back;
- in the eighth step, the glued block is replaced and then cradled in its normal non-fan position to realign the border of each of the sheets, then a new gluing of the back is carried out before drying the glue.
Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will emerge from the description which follows with reference to the appended drawings which are given only by way of nonlimiting examples.

In the binding process according to the invention, the following successive stages are carried out.
In a first step or preliminary step shown in FIG. 1, all the edges of the sheets are aligned on the side where the binding is to be made, so as to prepare a block (1) whose back (2) is in a plane ( P) perpendicular to the general plane of each of the leaves. It goes without saying that the sheets were stacked on top of each other beforehand.
During the second step illustrated in FIG. 2 and in FIG. 3, two tabs are glued, namely, a first tab (3a) on the
In the next step, which is the third step, a succession of holes (6) is drilled through the entire diameter of the volume by drilling with a small diameter ridge (5). Said holes are drilled near the plane (P) in the tabs (3a, 3b) previously positioned by gluing, this step being shown schematically in Figures 4, 5 and 6.
Dans l'illustration, la couture est faite manuellement grâce à une aiguille (30).During the fourth step, an elastic thread (7) is used, for example a latex thread covered with textile fibers known under the registered trademark LASTEX, to execute a sort of sewing by successive passages of the latex thread in the different holes, as illustrated in Figures 7 and 8, the ends of the latex thread being fixed by small knots (7a, 7b). Of course, the operation can be done manually or using a machine. In the illustration, the seam is made manually using a needle (30).
Then, in a fifth step, a border sheet is stuck on each of the outer sheets. Thus, on the first sheet (4a), a first cover sheet (8a) is stuck, while that on the last sheet (4b), a second cover sheet (8b) is stuck, this operation being illustrated in FIG. 9. The cover sheets are intended to reinforce the first and the second sheet of the stack and to hide the tabs and the elastic thread seam.
Après l'encollage, on réaligne les feuilles, tel qu'illustré à la figure 11.Then, during a sixth step illustrated in FIG. 10, the back (2) of the binding is glued with relatively fluid glue (C1) by placing the sheets in a fan shape, as in the illustration figure. During gluing, care has been taken to protect the worktop with a protective plate (31). Note that it is thanks to the elasticity of the latex thread (7) that it is possible to place the leaves in a fan shape and which, despite everything, remain connected by this thread. After gluing, the sheets are realigned, as illustrated in Figure 11.
In the next step or seventh step, we proceed to a rocking in front (figure 12) and back (figure 13) of the glued block. To do this, the glued part (2) is placed on the protective plate (31), as in Figure 11, and the glued back is moved thereon in a position such that the sheets of the block are fan-shaped. After the two rockings, the sheets are realigned as illustrated in Figure 14.
We then replace the glued block then cradled in its normal non-fan position, to realign the border of each of the sheets in the eighth step. For this operation, one can use the purlin (10) of a hammer (11) which is moved in translation on the back of the glued block (2) which is, for example, placed on a table (12) to exceed slightly, as illustrated in FIG. 15. In a ninth step, the back of the binding is glued with thick glue (C2), as shown diagrammatically in FIG. 16.
Afin de permettre de maintenir l'empilage de feuilles reliées, on prendra soin de poser une masse (M) sur la planchette supérieure (13b).The ninth step is the step of drying the block during which the latter is disposed between two boards, a lower board (13a), and an upper board (13b), the back having a thickness (E2) greater than the thickness (E1) of the stack of sheets being projecting externally to the boards, as shown in FIG. 17. In order to allow the stacking of connected sheets to be maintained, care will be taken to place a mass (M) on the upper board (13b).
The stacking of the stack provided for in the seventh step of the process allows the glue (C1) to be placed between the different sheets at the edge, as shown more particularly in FIG. 20, the glue being able to go up to '' at the seam or even beyond it.
Add that it is possible for large volumes to sew with a double thread and that we can also add thick tabs inside the stack, and this, at the edge of the back.
After drying, the possible cover is placed according to a procedure known per se by those skilled in the art, and which will therefore neither be shown nor described.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiments described and shown by way of examples, but it also includes all the technical equivalents and their combinations.
