Definitions

  • Those eligible for a refinish Substrates are either old paint (factory paint or refinishing), primed new parts (mostly ETL primed, especially in the area the painting of truck bodies) as well as steel, aluminum, galvanized sheet or plastic.
  • old paint factory paint or refinishing
  • primed new parts mostly ETL primed, especially in the area the painting of truck bodies
  • steel, aluminum, galvanized sheet or plastic The selection suitable paint materials and the process used aimed at producing a refinish the surface to be painted and the Customer claims.
  • the production of a multi-layer refinish is usually done by thorough cleaning the damaged area, sanding, if necessary filling and applying of a repair filler on the one to be coated Job. In the case of full paintwork, the same is done Pretreatment of the entire old paint to be coated. Then the painting is done prepared area.
  • the present invention was therefore the object Basically, a process for making a refinish to make available with which also at critical shades of refinish with a very good quality. This means that Color changes, cloud formation, etc. avoided should be.
  • Refinish procedures can be obtained at who avoided the common problems or at least be significantly reduced. Especially is common in conventional repair procedures observed cloud formation avoided. Significant is going to get these excellent results too using aqueous metallic basecoats can be achieved.
  • the inventive method for producing a multilayer refinishing can be done on the different substrates can be used.
  • the old paint to receive the refinish prepared. Usually this becomes the old paintwork is first thoroughly cleaned, e.g. with a silicone remover, and with grinding paste or Sanded sandpaper. Then the pre-treated Surface usually cleaned again degreased. In addition, it is also possible to use the old paint for example with an adhesion promoter solution prepaint. This preparation of the old paint is known and therefore does not need to be explained in more detail.
  • an aqueous or water-dilutable or conventional coating agent can then be applied to the correspondingly prepared old paint.
  • highly diluted clear coats are usually applied, which can be both aqueous, water-dilutable and conventional.
  • conventional clear coats they must be predried before the basecoat is applied. This is usually done by heating the clear lacquer layer to a temperature below 140 ° C., preferably below 80 ° C., for a period of 5-60 minutes. If aqueous coating agents are used for this process step, a baking step may be omitted and after a short flash-off time of 5-50 min. the base coating composition can be applied directly.
  • the old paint is pre-sprayed with such a clear coat, it may be possible to dispense with sanding the old paint.
  • the above-described pretreatment of the old paint is done by cleaning and sanding.
  • Aqueous clearcoats suitable for this pretreatment of the old coating are described, for example, in DE-OS-40 09 000.
  • the conventional clearcoats typically used for this purpose such as those sold by Glasurit GmbH, can also be used.
  • the area of the old paint which is adjacent to the previously coated area of the old paint, is again coated with the aqueous basecoat composition in two directly successive spray passes until a limit is reached in accordance with the previous statements.
  • a fender of the car is first coated with the aqueous base coating composition in two successive spray passes.
  • Process step (c) described above is carried out until the entire part to be coated is provided with a base layer. In the example described above, this means, for example, that after the fender has been coated, the adjacent door is again provided with the base layer in 2 spray passes.
  • the flash-off time is usually less than 30 min, particularly preferably a flash-off time of less than 20 min. Without is particularly preferred Flash-off time between the first and second spraying worked.
  • the base coating composition For application of the base coating composition is worked under the usual conditions. This means that for example with a normal or only a slightly reduced spray gun pressure worked becomes.
  • the spray gun inlet pressure is preferably between 3.0 and 4.5 bar.
  • the spray gun outlet pressure varies depending on the used Spray gun. When using an HVLP (high volume, Low Pressure) gun, for example, it is between 0.6 and 0.7 bar.
  • HVLP high volume, Low Pressure
  • basecoats used spray guns suitable for example the above-mentioned HVLP pistols, but also normal pneumatic high-performance spray guns (e.g. SATA-Jet 1.4E).
  • Base coating compositions used as binders contain at least one polyurethane resin. So are, for example, those described in DE-OS-40 09 000 aqueous base coating compositions suitable. Also suitable are those using a mixing system produced aqueous Base coating compositions.
  • a suitable transparent top coating composition upset After forming a polymer film from the basecoat composition, preferably after drying the Base layer at temperatures below 140 ° C, preferred at temperatures below 80 ° C, during a Time of 5-60 min, if necessary after a short cooling time of generally at least 5 min Base layer a suitable transparent top coating composition upset.
  • the dry film thickness the top layer is generally between 30 and 100 ⁇ m.
  • the dry film thickness of the Base layer is generally between 10 and 25 ⁇ m.
  • Clear varnishes are often used based on a hydroxyl-containing acrylate copolymer and a polyisocyanate. Such Clear varnishes are, for example, in the patent applications DE-OS-34 12 534, DE-OS-36 09 519, DE-OS-37 31 652 and DE-OS-38 23 005 described. Also suitable are the in the international patent application with the international Publication number WO 88/02010 described moisture-curing clear lacquers based on Polyaddition polymers with alkoxy or aryloxysilane units.
  • the top layer is then together with the Base layer at temperatures of up to 140 ° C, preferred at temperatures below 100 ° C, and especially preferably at temperatures from 60 to 80 ° C during dried over a period of 5-120 min.
  • multi-layer refinishing come different substrates into consideration, such as B. Old paintwork (factory painting or refinishing) and primed new parts (mostly ETL primed, especially in the area of painting truck bodies).
  • B. Old paintwork factory painting or refinishing
  • primed new parts mostly ETL primed, especially in the area of painting truck bodies.
  • the process for whole-part refinishing used.
  • An electro-primed steel sheet serves as the substrate, which is coated with a commercially available, conventional filler material based on a melamine-crosslinked polyester resin (FC60-7133 from BASF Lacke + Weg, Weg; dry film thickness 40 ⁇ m), a commercially available, conventional metallic basecoat based on cellulose acetobutyrate (AE54-9153 from BASF Lacke + Weg, Weg; dry film thickness 15 ⁇ m) and a commercially available conventional clear coat based on isocyanate-crosslinked hydroxyl-containing acrylates (AF23-0185 from BASF Lacke + Weg, Weg, GmbH; dry film thickness 60 ⁇ m).
  • the coated sheet is additionally stored for several hours at an elevated temperature, for example 60 ° C, and the coating is thus aged.
  • the old paintwork simulated in this way is first cleaned, then roughened with sandpaper and cleaned again.
  • the commercially available 1-component glassohyd® 76-86W basic filler from BASF Lacke + Maschinen AG, Weg, is then applied to the old paint prepared in this way with 2 spray passes in two spray passes and dried at 60 ° C. for 30 minutes. Then the aqueous commercial repair basecoat VW mintmet is applied. VWL-B6 / 00U from BASF Lacke + Maschinen AG, Weg (dry film thickness 15 ⁇ m).
  • the application is carried out by means of the HVLP spray gun (High Volume Low Pressure) spray gun SATA Jet B NR92 (nozzle width 1.3 mm) at a spray gun inlet pressure of 4.5 bar (spray gun outlet pressure 0.7 bar).
  • HVLP spray gun High Volume Low Pressure
  • SATA Jet B NR92 nozzle width 1.3 mm
  • spray gun inlet pressure 4.5 bar
  • spray gun outlet pressure 0.7 bar
  • the coating obtained in this way shows excellent surface properties.
  • the one obtained Coating advantages in terms of cloud formation compared to coatings in which the complete car body in one shot with the Metallic basecoat is coated and only after completion the entire body of the basecoat in a second coat on the whole Body is applied.
