Description

The present invention relates to a watch case having a middle and a bottom, said box being intended to receive a movement surmounted by a dial and a set of needles.

It is well known (EP-A-0 199 298) to propose a watch case with different dials as to their appearance. These dials may have different materials or still various graphics responding to the taste of the moment. This is how, during assembly, the SWATCH watch (registered trademark) can be equipped with one of the multiples dials designed by the imagination of stylists. These dials however only have one is unique dimension, circular in most cases. But he has proven useful to be able to offer not only dials with various graphics, but still, for the same middle, dials whose dimensions different. In this way we increase the variants we can offer to buyer.

To obtain this result, the present invention is characterized in that the middle part has at least first and second annular shoulders arranged in bleachers to receive a choice and respectively a first dial with a first dimension or a second dial with a larger second dimension than the first.

The invention will now be understood on reading the description which follows and illustrated by the drawing giving several examples of embodiment, drawing in which:
  • FIG. 1 is a section through the watch case of the invention where the dial which is shown there has a reduced first dimension,
  • FIG. 2 is a section in the same watch case where the dial which is shown there has a second dimension larger than that of FIG. 1,
  • FIG. 3 is a section through the watch case of the invention, this section showing a second embodiment of said invention, and
  • Figure 4 is a section in the watch case of the invention, this section having a third embodiment of said invention.

The watch case shown in Figures 1 and 2 has a middle part 1 and a bottom 2. Figure 1 is a cut made at 6 o'clock or at 12 o'clock, because we can see there shown a housing 26 which serves to retain a bracelet. Figure 2 is a section at 3 o'clock showing the hole 25 intended to be crossed by a setting rod time. The box is likely to receive a movement not shown which takes place in the space referenced 27. The movement is surmounted by a dial 9 or 10 and a game needles 6 or 5 respectively. The figures show of a back 2 made of a piece with the middle 1, but it is clear that the bottom 2 could be independent.

As seen in Figures 1 and 2, the invention is mainly characterized by the fact that the middle 1 has at least a first shoulder 7 and a second shoulder 8 arranged in tiers. In the case of the figure 1, the first shoulder 7 receives a first dial 9 presenting a first dimension. In the case of Figure 2, the second shoulder 8 receives a second dial 10 having a second dimension larger than the first, the dial 10 being housed on the upper tier. Thus during assembly, carried out for example on chain automatic, you can choose to equip the watch with either dial 9 of small dimension, that is to say of a dial 10 of large dimension.

To fill the void created between the glass 11 and the edge of the middle part 1 has been arranged a bezel 13. This glasses, in addition to hiding the free space of the second shoulder 8 not used, allows bringing to the shows an interesting aesthetic aspect. She went up to notch on the ice and can be fixed or rotating. The dial 9 is surmounted by a set of 6 short hands adapted to the dimensions of the dial 9 and of the crystal 11.

Ice 12 joins the edge of middle part 1 without having to provide a telescope. The dial 10 is surmounted by a game of larger needles 5, suitable for dimensions of the dial 10 and of the crystal 12.

It will be observed that, in both cases, the games needles 6 and 5 are located equidistant from windows 11 and 12 which allows the same type of movement with a similar needle axis. In what concerns the movement note that it can be a independent movement mounted by the top of the box or of a movement mounted on the bottom 2 as well known from the SWATCH watch cited above. To return to sets of needles, it will be noted that, in the case of the Figure 2, the game 5 is closer to the dial 10 and that, in the case of FIG. 1, the set 6 is more away from the dial 9.

Frame 1 and the two types of glass 11 and 12 shown in figure 1 and 2 are made of materials thermosealable thermoplastic. For example, middle 1 is made of a material chosen from the group including acryl butadiene styrene (ABS) and ice 11 and 12 are made of a transparent resin acrylic (PMMA). Means are provided for assembling one or the other glass and the middle, these means comprising a localized zone 14 or 15 constituted by a mixture of said heat-sealable materials together. The two types of ice 11 and 12 also have a annular clamping surface 16, respectively 17, for keep the chosen dial 9 or 10 on its shoulder corresponding 7 or 8 when the glass is assembled to the middle. The interested reader will profitably read a description of this technique in document EP-B-0 101 663 (US-A-4,558,957). There is therefore no need to expand here further on this process.

So, in summary of what has been explained above, it is easily possible, during assembly of the watch, choose a small dial 9 or a dial 10 of larger dimension, these dials adapting to the same middle 1 thanks to the fact that said middle has two different shoulders arranged in steps. AT each of these dials corresponds to a suitable crystal, one with glasses and the other without glasses. This corresponds to a first embodiment of the invention. One can imagine other embodiments of the invention two of which will be reviewed below.

These modes of execution have common points. In the two cases indeed, the middle part 1 is shaped to receive only one type of ice, namely ice 18 of the Figure 3 or the window 19 of Figure 4. These windows 18 or 19 are adapted either to the second dial 10 of large dimension when the latter is housed on the second shoulder 8, or to a ring 20 housed in said second shoulder 8, this ring now in place the first dial 9 when it is housed on the first shoulder 7.

In FIG. 3, the large-sized glass 18 has an annular clamping surface 17 which holds in place a ring 20 housed on the second shoulder 8, this ring now in turn place a small 9 dial dimension housed on the first shoulder 7. In this case, and without it being necessary to represent it, if a dial 10 large was chosen, it would be housed on the shoulder 8 and retained by the clamping surface 17, the ring 20 then failing. Dial 9 corresponds the set of short hands 6 and the dial 10 the set long needles 5. In this second embodiment, the middle 1 and glass 18 are made, as in the first mode, in heat-sealable plastic materials, means being provided for assembling the crystal and the middle part, these means consisting of a localized zone 21 constituted by a mixture of heat-sealable materials together.

Au cadran 10 correspond préférablement un jeu d'aiguilles longues 5 et au cadran 9, un jeu d'aiguilles courtes 6.In FIG. 4, the glass 19 and the middle part 1 are assembled by means of a compressible packing 22 interposed between these elements. In this case, the middle 1 is preferably metallic and the glass 19 is made of glass. A flange 23 is located under the glass 19 and this flange has an annular clamping surface 24 which maintains in place a large dial 10 housed on its shoulder 8. Here also and without the need to represent it, if a small dial 9 was chosen, it would be housed on shoulder 7 and retained in place by a ring 20 (see Figure 3) itself held in place by the clamping surface 24 of the flange 23. Dial 10 preferably has a clearance long needles 5 and dial 9, a set of needles short 6.

Ring 20 planned for the second and third embodiments, superimposed in tier on dial 9 of small dimension, gives a particular aspect to the shows and can be coated with an original graphic or personalized.

Finally, we note that it was not mentioned above, for one or other of the modes chosen, the peripheral shape of the dials and glass. These can be circular or any other shape.
