Definitions
- the invention relates to a cylindrical symmetrical surge arrester with a porcelain housing having circumferential protective shields and with at least one blow-out opening at one of its ends, which is aligned parallel to the cylinder axis of the arrester on the outer surface of the porcelain housing.
- Such a surge arrester is known for example from DE-OS 26 55 557.
- the porcelain housing is provided with all-round protective shields, all of which have the same outer diameter.
- hot gas is blown out of a blow-out opening and along the outer surface of the surge arrester, parallel to its axis, over the protective shields. The hot gas escapes at high pressure and the gas flow can break off the porcelain of the protective shields.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of designing a surge arrester so that the risk of damage to the protective shields is reduced.
- the projection is at a distance from the discharge opening increases from shield to shield in at least two steps.
- the core of the porcelain housing has a cylindrical shape in most cases.
- the first protective screens have a smaller throat than the other protective screens, the first protective screens do not represent a major obstacle to a flow of extinguishing gas, so that the mechanical load is greatly reduced at this point.
- Throat is understood to mean the extent to which a protective screen protrudes beyond the core of the porcelain housing. Part of the gas flow is already deflected by the first protective screens in such a way that the following protective screens are not burdened by the gas.
- the gas flow on the one hand then expanded further, on the other hand, the gas cooled further, so that there is no fear of damage to the other protective shields.
- protective screens form a barrel shape in the longitudinal section of the arrester. In this way, a particularly favorable guidance of the outflowing gas is achieved.
- the remaining protective shields can be designed, for example, as protective shields with a larger diameter and protective shields with a smaller diameter, which are arranged alternately along the longitudinal axis of the surge arrester.
- the surge arrester has two blow-out openings at its opposite ends, it is expedient the first protective screen seen from the respective blow-out opening, provided with a smaller diameter.
- FIG. 1 shows a surge arrester according to the invention in a partially sectioned view.
- the surge arrester 1 has a cylindrical, barrel-shaped shape. For example, it can contain one or more columns of metal oxide discharge resistors in its interior.
- the housing 2 of the surge arrester is designed as a porcelain housing with circumferential protective screens 3. In the central area along the longitudinal axis of the housing, protective screens 3 with a larger diameter alternate with protective screens 4 with a smaller diameter.
- the surge arrester 1 has blow-out openings 5, 9 at its ends, from which hot gas flows out under high pressure in the direction of arrows 6, 10 in the event of a high short-circuit current when a corresponding safety device, for example a bursting plate, responds.
- two protective screens 7, 8 are arranged in front of them, which have a smaller diameter than the other protective screens 3, 4.
- the minimum diameter of the protective screen 7 is that of the blow-out opening 5 on next lies.
- the arrow 6 is shown Gas flow deflected so that the load on the protective screens 3, 4 is reduced.
- the same arrangement with upstream protective screens of smaller diameter can be provided at the other end of the arrester, as shown in the figure.
- the inventive design of the porcelain housing prevents the protective screen 7, 11 closest to the respective outflow opening 5, 9 from breaking due to the high pressure of the outflowing gas.
