Definitions
- the invention is concerned with the design of double-chamber bass reflex boxes, in particular with the design of very easy to produce box housings for realizing such boxes.
- Subwoofer boxes that work according to the double chamber principle are generally known in the prior art, so that a detailed discussion of the functioning of such boxes can be dispensed with.
- double-chamber boxes are formed in such a way that the outer box housing is divided into two volumes by means of a partition.
- either one or a plurality of loudspeakers is used in an opening in the partition.
- the sound emission of the respective loudspeaker takes place through the so-called open volume of the box, which is provided with a radiation opening for this purpose and which connects the open volume with the listening room.
- the other volume formed by the partition which is also referred to as a closed volume, is completely separated from the listening room by the loudspeaker, the partition and the box housing.
- a so-called bass reflex tube is commonly inserted and connected into the radiation opening. Does that too Double chamber box forming a simple geometric shape, so it is possible to form the bass reflex tube and the wall in which the tube is inserted in one piece, for example by using the spraying technique.
- double-chamber boxes have complicated geometrical shapes in accordance with the requirements of many customers of such boxes, it is not possible in many cases to form the bass reflex tube in one piece with the wall in which it is used. In such cases, it is necessary to design the respective bass reflex tube as an individual part and to connect it to the open volume of the box.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of specifying a double chamber box which can be produced without great effort, even in the case of complicated shapes of the double chamber box.
- the box housing of a double chamber box is formed by two hollow bodies, which are also used in blow molding in the case of complicated shapes of the box are easy to manufacture.
- Each of these two hollow bodies encloses a volume and has depressions on the walls which face one another in the assembled state. If both hollow bodies are connected to one another at their walls having the depressions, the depressions enclose a volume which, depending on the design of the hollow bodies, can be used as a closed or open volume of the box.
- the reason that in connection with this application the volume formed between the two depressions is only used as the open volume of the box is due to the fact that this can be formed particularly easily.
- the hollow bodies would have to have corresponding openings on the walls to which they are connected, so that the sound waves emitted by the loudspeaker within the box can be transferred from one hollow body to the tuning volume of the other hollow body can.
- the volume that encloses one of the two hollow bodies can be used as a so-called tuning volume.
- the tuning volume is understood to mean that volume which is used to tune the box and which is implemented in boxes according to the prior art by the so-called bass reflex tube. Since the tuning volume is formed at the same time as the respective hollow body is being manufactured, no special measures are required to connect the tuning volume to the open volume of the box.
- a particularly good volume utilization of the box (based on the gross volume of the box) is given when the sound outlet opening, which connects the tuning volume with the listening room, is arranged symmetrically to the openings, which connect the open volume with the tuning volume.
- FIG. 1 shows a perspective view of a double chamber box 10.
- This double chamber box 10 is formed from two hollow bodies 11, 12 formed by blowing technology.
- FIG. 1 shows the two hollow bodies 11, 12 in an unconnected state.
- Each of these two hollow bodies 11, 12 includes a volume, the volume of the hollow body 11 being referred to as the closed volume 13 and that of the hollow body 12 as the tuning volume 14.
- the walls 15 of the two hollow bodies 11, 12, which face one another, have depressions 16 which protrude into the volumes 13, 14 of the respective hollow body 11, 12.
- the opening cross section of both recesses 16 is rectangular and has the same dimensions for both hollow bodies 11, 12.
- the recess 16 of the hollow body 12 is box-shaped.
- FIG. 2 shows a section A / A through a double-chamber box 10 in the connected state.
- a loudspeaker 19 (not shown in FIG. 1) can be used in the wall part 17 of the hollow body 11.
- the loudspeaker 19 is inserted into the opening 18, as shown in FIG. 2, in such a way that its magnet system 20 projects into the recess 16 in the hollow body 11.
- the depression 16 of the hollow body 12 is provided by means of two openings 22 arranged in the side parts 21 of the depression 16.
- the open volume 26 (FIG. 2) is connected to the tuning volume 14 via these openings 22 when the box 10 is mounted.
- the outer wall 23 has a sound outlet opening 24, which is arranged centrally to the outer wall 23. Since the hollow body 12 is also formed symmetrically, the two openings 22 are arranged symmetrically with respect to the sound outlet opening 24.
- the cross-sectional area of the sound outlet opening 24 corresponds in size to the cross-sectional area of both openings 22.
- both hollow bodies 11, 12 shown in FIG. 1 are connected by means of their circumferential flanges 25, the recesses 16 of the two hollow bodies 11, 12 enclose a volume which is referred to as the open volume 26 of the double chamber box 10.
- the latter is illustrated in more detail in FIG. 2.
- a circumferential sealing ring 27 is arranged between the two flanges 25.
- the connection of the two hollow bodies 11, 12 is realized in the present exemplary embodiment by a plurality of screws (indicated by the dash-dotted lines in the flanges 25). This has the advantage that the connection of the two hollow bodies 11, 12 can be largely automated. However, this is not restricted to screw connections, because in another embodiment (not shown here) the connection of the two hollow bodies 11, 12 can also be realized by a snap or adhesive connection.
- a loudspeaker 19 If a loudspeaker 19 is subjected to low-frequency sound signals in the open volume 26, the sound waves are transmitted through the openings 22 into the tuning volume 14 of the hollow body 12 and from there through the outlet opening 24 to the environment.
- FIG. 3 shows a slightly modified arrangement compared to FIG. This differs from the illustration according to FIG. 1 in that the opening 18 is not arranged centrally in the wall part 17 of the hollow body 11.
- the recess 16 of the hollow body 12 has only one opening 22.
- This opening 22 is arranged in the side wall 21, which has the larger of the two distances from the opening 18.
- the outlet opening 24 is also not arranged centrally to the outer wall 23, but rather lies approximately opposite the opening 18 of the hollow body 11 when the two hollow bodies 11, 12 are connected to form a double chamber box 10. Due to this geometry of the box 10, the volume utilization is slightly deteriorated compared to a box 10 according to FIG. 1.
- the opening 22 is provided with a tube piece 28 which projects into the recess 16 of the hollow body 12.
- the cross-sectional areas of both openings 22, 24 are of the same size.
- the pipe section 28 according to FIG. 3 only serves to lower the tuning frequency of the box 10. However, this does not mean that the use of such pipe pieces 28 is necessary when carrying out the invention. Rather, the boxes 10 designed according to the invention can be operated in a frequency range between approximately 50 and 140 Hz even without the pipe pieces 28 shown in FIG. 3 in the or the opening 22 with very good reproduction results.

Abstract
