Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for producing wood products from logs with feed means for receiving a tree trunk, which can be moved together with the tree trunk along a feed path running essentially in the longitudinal direction of the tree trunk, which includes a processing section with a sequence of tools arranged thereon, which can be brought into machining engagement with a tree trunk moving along the machining path.
  • the invention also relates to a feed device that can be used in the device in a special design.
  • the invention further relates to a processing method which can be carried out with such a device.
  • Saw frames as well as band saws are generally known from the older sawmill technology, in which a tree trunk is moved against a rotating saw blade in order to divide the trunk into a sequence of boards on a trolley. The carriage can be moved back and forth and only one cut can be made with each forward movement.
  • this older technology is largely abandoned to make way for more modern machining and profiling technology.
  • a tree trunk is generally processed in a single pass to the desired wood product, for example by first flattening the trunk along its sides, then milling out forest-edge corners, cutting off side boards and the resultant Squared timber may be divided into other timber products such as boards and beams.
  • Such systems generally work almost fully automatically and are designed for a relatively high throughput.
  • the feed of the tree trunks through such systems is largely carried out by stationary pairs of feed rollers, sometimes also supported by conveyors with corresponding drivers.
  • the tool intervention is usually carried out simultaneously from opposite sides.
  • the invention is therefore based on the object of providing a device for producing wood products from logs which, on the one hand, makes use of modern profiling technology, on the other hand is inexpensive to invest for smaller companies and smaller throughput quantities, and moreover also permits a method of working in which a log of one Side or several sides can be worked up essentially parallel to the outer surface line.
  • the invention provides a generally linear feed path along which the feed means carrying a tree trunk can be moved back and forth.
  • tools carried by the drive units are provided on the feed path, which tools can optionally be brought into engagement with a tree trunk that has moved past, by being able to be moved back and forth between a processing position on the processing line and a rest position remote from it.
  • the feed means are preferably designed as a track-bound carriage which is provided with a clamping device for a tree trunk.
  • This clamping device is preferably designed in such a way that it has at least two spaced-apart clamping means which, from one side of the tree trunk and essentially on this side, with respect to the axis of the tree trunk, grip the tree trunk in a manner like a clamp from above and below that the other long side of the tree trunk is freely available for the engagement of the processing tools. Accordingly, these are preferably arranged only on one side of the feed path, on the side on which a clamped tree trunk is free for a machining intervention.
  • the device is designed for a mode of operation in which, after having passed a tool or a sequence of tools in the working position, the tree trunk is returned along the feed path by means of the feed carriage, and then brought into another working position with another feed Tool or to be engaged again for further processing with the same sequence of tools.
  • a tree trunk is successively processed further from one side through successive individual passes through the processing section or processed into wood products.
  • this does not preclude a tree trunk being rotated or clamped in a different way on the feed carriage after a certain one-sided processing, in order then to be processed from another side.
  • each tool type is provided basically only once, ie on one drive unit.
  • a drive unit may only ever be equipped with a single tool of a certain type, for most tools it is much more common to arrange them in pairs so that they can attack the side of the tree trunk to be processed from above and below at the same time.
  • a separating cut for separating a board is generally carried out simultaneously from above and below by two offset circular saw blades, the circular saw blades overlapping in their depth of penetration.
  • corner milling cutters for exposing a side board. For this it is necessary to mill out an upper and a lower corner, which is generally also done simultaneously with mirror-image tools.
  • each type of tool (individually or in pairs) only needs to be provided once because of the repeatable passage of the tree trunk through the device, reduces the required Investment costs considerably.
  • the device has a high degree of processing flexibility, since the individual tools can be brought into processing engagement with the log again and again as often and in any setting that is changed in the course of new processing runs. This enables the wood to be processed with different, modern tools adapted to the required work step, even with low investment costs.
  • the clamping device on the feed means is therefore designed such that it can be moved as a whole transversely to the feed direction on the feed means. If desired, this can be done by automatic control.
  • the clamping device can be displaced transversely on the feed means in a direction away from the tools, so that when the starting position is reached for a new machining pass by hand or automatically controlled into the correct position for the next tool intervention.
  • the clamping means of the clamping device are designed to be at least relatively adjustable relative to each other both in their vertical position and in their horizontal orientation transversely to the feed path. If the processing of a tree trunk is to be carried out parallel to one of its outer surface lines, the axis of the tree trunk must run at an acute angle to the feed direction, which requires a corresponding positioning of the clamping means.
  • Adjustment of the clamping device on a transport carriage in a substantially horizontal plane is already known from feed carriages in conventional band saws.
  • What is new in the present invention is the adjustability of the clamping device on a feed carriage in a vertical plane, it being essentially a matter of being able to tilt the axis of a clamped tree trunk in a vertical plane. This is important in order to be able to determine the position of the longitudinal cut surface of the trunk in relation to the engagement tracks of the corner milling cutters, which delimit a board to be cut, in such a way that optimum use is made of the area of the trunk in its longitudinal cut plane.
  • an electronic measuring device known per se is provided at the entrance of the processing line, with which the position of the tree trunk can be measured on the feed trolley in order to determine its position based on the measurement result correct for optimal wood utilization.
  • the feed carriage according to the invention can nevertheless be used advantageously in conventional band saw devices for the following reasons: Band saw blades tend to flutter. For this reason, vertically displaceable guide devices are provided on the saw blade, which are moved as close as possible from above and below to the trunk being worked on. This can be done automatically during the processing of a log in such a way that the guide devices essentially follow the log contour.
  • the adjustability of the saw band guides increases.
  • the log can be aligned in its horizontal position on the carriage in such a way that the adjustment movements of the saw band guides are reduced to a minimum.
  • the feed carriage in a preferred embodiment is designed such that the entire clamping device is mounted on the feed carriage in such a way that it can be tilted at least about a horizontal axis .
  • This can be implemented in such a way that all the clamping means are arranged on a common base frame, which can be pivoted in the form of a rocker on the feed carriage about a horizontal axis running transversely to the feed direction.
  • a corresponding design with a vertical axis of rotation can be provided in addition to a parallel transverse movement of the clamping device for pivoting a tree trunk in a horizontal plane.
  • Means can additionally be provided on the feed carriage with which the tree trunk can rotate after loosening the clamping means and can be clamped again in a changed processing position.
  • the drive units carrying the tools are expediently arranged on the processing section of the overall device according to the invention in such a way that they follow one another closely or without gaps. It can be advantageous to modularly design the drive units with regard to their base dimensions or their movable guidance standardize so that they can be installed or exchanged in different positions on the processing line.
  • a sensible sequence of arrangements is that the first drive unit is provided with one or two cutting heads for flattening the outside of a tree trunk, the second drive unit is provided with two corner milling cutters, preferably rotatable about vertical shafts, which can mill out tree-edged corners from above and below, and the third Drive unit with two circular saw blades that can be rotated around horizontal shafts and are slightly offset from each other in the direction of feed. They can separate a board from the trunk by means of a vertical cut. When the tree trunk passes through the processing section for the first time, all three drive units can be in the working position.
  • the first drive unit with the chucks is brought into rest position, the corner milling cutters are moved apart a little, and the clamping device on the feed means is moved a little closer to the tools, in order to then separate a second board from the trunk in a similar processing step. This can be repeated.
  • a drive unit provided for cutting saws can also be equipped with saw shafts, which can accommodate several at a selectable mutual distance Arrangeable saw blades are set up to separate several boards at the same time. Such designs are known.
  • tool unit With regard to the diversity of the individual types of tools, it is also entirely possible to provide a tool unit with a stationary knife in order to separate a thin board from the trunk as the tree trunk moves past the knife. Since such a knife does not require its own drive, the expression "tool unit” stands for drive unit. The tool unit provided with a knife should also be able to be moved back and forth between a working and a rest position in accordance with the other drive units.
  • FIG. 1 The compact installation shown in FIG. 1 in a schematic side view and in FIG. 2 in a schematic top view for producing wood products from logs has a feed path 2, which in the exemplary embodiment is designed as a rectilinear track section.
  • a feed carriage 4 On this track rail section 3, a feed carriage 4 is arranged to be movable back and forth, which is provided for receiving a tree trunk 6 to be processed.
  • a part of the feed path 2 forms a machining path 8, along which a sequence of drive or machining units 10-16 is arranged to the side of the feed path 2, which are equipped with different machining tools on their front side facing the feed path 2.
  • the individual drive units are individually transverse to the direction of the feed path 2 between a working position on the feed path and one of rest position distant from the feed path can be moved, which is indicated schematically in FIG. 2 by arrows 18. In the illustration in FIG. 2, all drive units are in the working position.
  • the drive unit 10 arranged first in the feed direction of the feed carriage 4 is provided with two cutting heads 20 which are offset from one another in the horizontal direction and are overlapping in their working areas in the vertical direction. Such cutting heads are known and are used to flatten one side of the tree trunk, the processed wood material being obtained in the form of wood chips.
  • the next drive unit 12 is equipped with two vertically arranged corner milling cutters 22, which can be rotated about vertical shafts. The distance between the two milling cutters is adjustable. They are used to mill two corner areas in the log, which expose the narrow sides of a side board that is subsequently to be separated.
  • the corner milling cutters are provided with chopping knives (not shown) on their circumference, with which the worked corner material can also be converted into wood chips. They can also have a finishing tool on their mutually facing sides, with which the side edges of the exposed board are immediately subjected to a finishing or saw cut processing. This tool design and arrangement is also known.
  • the drive unit 14 is provided with two circular saw blades 24 which are also offset in the horizontal direction and slightly overlap vertically in their engagement areas are arranged so that a side board to be separated from the trunk is completely detached.
  • the shafts of the circular saw blades can also be provided with a plurality of circular saw blades positioned at a distance from one another in order to cut off several side boards at the same time.
  • the last drive-free unit, which is therefore referred to as the processing unit 16, carries a stationary cutting knife 26, with which a side board can be separated from a tree trunk which has moved past by pure cutting.
  • the feed carriage 4 is provided with a clamping device for a tree trunk, which is designated overall by the reference number 28.
  • the clamping device 28 has a base frame 30 which can be moved in a direction transverse to the feed path on the chassis 34 provided with wheels 32, which is indicated by the arrows 36 in FIG. 2.
  • the transverse adjustment of the base frame 30 can take place by means of a motor-driven or fluid-operated drive (not shown) provided on the feed carriage 4.
  • the clamping device 28 furthermore has two clamping means 38 spaced apart from one another in the direction of the feed path and attached to the base frame 30, which are provided with a height adjustment, which is indicated in FIG. 1 by the arrows 40.
  • the clamping means 38 are basically designed in the exemplary embodiment is shown in FIGS. 4-6.
  • the clamping means 38 each have a stand 40 which is provided with a pair of grippers 44 which can be closed in the vertical direction and whose two arms can be actuated by means of fluid cylinders 46.
  • the cylinders 46 can be provided with position control devices (not shown).
  • the fluid drive can be provided, for example, in such a way that the pair of grippers is closed by means of the fluid cylinders 46, but in addition a vertical movement of the pair of grippers is also possible as a whole unit.
  • the axis of a clamped tree trunk 6 can be aligned in a desired manner in a vertical plane.
  • an electronic measuring device 48 is provided at the entrance of the processing section 8, that is to say in front of the first drive unit 10, with which the tree trunk 6 is measured in its position as it moves past on the feed carriage 4.
  • the electronic measuring device 48 can also be arranged elsewhere on the feed path 2, in particular at a greater distance from the processing path 8. Measuring devices of the type suitable for this are known. The measurement result can be used to automatically act on the height adjustability of the clamping means 38.
  • Fig. 3-7 show the work of the individual tools on the tree trunk 6.
  • the tree trunk 6 is held by the gripper pairs 44 substantially laterally from its central axis, on the side that the one intended for tool engagement Side is turned away.
  • the feed carriage 4 with the tree trunk 6 is in the processing section, ie a number of tools are in engagement with the tree trunk.
  • 3 also shows that the tree trunk, relative to a horizontal plane, is not clamped in such a way that its axis runs in the direction of the feed path 2, but rather that its side being processed is aligned parallel to the feed path 2.
  • the adjustment options on the feed carriage 4 deliberately provide such an alignability. The reasons for this were pointed out in the introduction to the description.
  • the processing unit 18 with the cutting knife 26 is in the rest position.
  • the drive units 10, 12 and 14 are all in the working position and their tools subsequently come into machining engagement with the tree trunk 6 during its advancing movement along the track rails 3.
  • FIGS. 4-6 show the individual, successive processing steps. From Fig. 4 it can be seen that there the tree trunk is flattened by means of the chip 20 on its side facing the drive unit 10.
  • FIG. 5 shows the subsequent engagement of the corner milling cutters 22 of the drive unit 12. A tree-edged corner is milled out of the trunk from above and below, whereby a side board 50 to be separated is exposed at its edges. 6 finally shows how this side board 50 is separated from the tree trunk 6 by means of the circular saw blades 24.
  • This process can be repeated for a further side board, the drive unit 10 moving with the chucks in the rest position, however, and the corner milling cutters 22 of the drive unit 12 having to be set at a greater distance.
  • the sequence of movements of the base frame 30 of the setting device 28 is indicated in FIG. 2 by the arrow sequence 52. After a longitudinal movement of the tree trunk 6 on the tools, the clamping device 28 for the return transport of the carriage 4 is moved on the latter in the transverse direction by a certain distance from the tools in order first to be approached again for a new feed.
  • FIG. 7 the case is shown that the processing unit 16 with the cutting knife 26 is in engagement with the log 6 in order to cut off a side board instead of sawing.
  • the preceding processing stages can be carried out as shown in FIG. 3, namely first flattening and corner milling. From the beginning, the corners can also be kept so deep that several thin boards are successively cut off from the exposed trunk section, or several boards are cut off simultaneously by sawing. It It is also possible, for example, to work out step corners by repeated, successive use of the corner milling cutters in different spacing positions, so that several boards of different widths can be separated at the same time, making better use of the trunk cross section.
  • the compact system described offers a very high degree of flexibility in the processing options without requiring the investment outlay of a large system.
  • a modified and preferred embodiment of a feed carriage 4 is finally shown, in which a base frame 54 of a clamping device about a horizontal and transverse to the feed path 56 is tiltably mounted on the chassis of the carriage, whereby the horizontal orientation of the axis of the Tree trunk 6 can be corrected in a simple manner.
  • a fluid cylinder 58 is provided on one side only, which can be equipped with appropriate control devices.
  • the feed carriage 4 can be driven along the feed path 2 in a known manner, for example also by a rack and pinion drive, as is known from rack and pinion paths.
  • the drive means for the Feed car 4 are not shown in the drawings.
  • the drive and processing units are shown schematically in the same size. They are preferably of modular design, so that they can easily be replaced by others and can also be positioned in a different arrangement along the processing path 8.
  • the device could also be designed such that processing steps can also be carried out on the return path of the feed carriage. Because of the possible directional dependence of the tools, appropriately trained drive units would then have to be moved into the working position.
