Definitions
- the invention relates to an inductive switch-on sensor for battery-operated coin validators according to the preamble of claim 1.
- a switch-on sensor is e.g. known from US-A-5 027 935.
- Battery operated electronic coin validators are to be designed in such a way that they have a low power requirement, both during the operating phase and during the idle phase. It is therefore also known to design such coin validators in such a way that they are "woken up" only when required. In the idle state, the parts and components of the electronic coin validator are inactive. On in this way, the power requirement during the rest phase can be minimized.
- Such an electronic coin validator is awakened with the aid of a switch-on sensor, which is also known and can work inductively. It determines when a coin has been inserted into the coin validator. This results in damping from which a switch-on signal can be derived. It is essential for such switch-on sensors that they can work in a wide temperature range. It extends between -30 and + 80 ° C. Now it would be conceivable to use a so-called IC for this purpose, with which temperature compensation would be easily achievable. However, an IC cannot be used due to power consumption. The current requirement should be less than 10 ⁇ A.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of providing an inductive switch-on sensor for battery-operated coin validators which has low power consumption and which effectively generates a switch-on signal over a large temperature range.
- a transistor in an emitter follower circuit is connected to the oscillator. It charges a capacitor to the lower peak value of the output voltage of the oscillator, which is present at the base-emitter path.
- a resistor connected in parallel with the capacitor discharges the capacitor just enough that the capacitor is recharged at each lower peak of the oscillator output voltage.
- the oscillator voltage collapses by a few millivolts, and the capacitor is no longer charged over a number of periods (e.g. 10 to 50 ms). During this time, the transistor is de-energized and a wake-up signal in the form of a so-called LOW signal can be generated via a further capacitor.
- a so-called Collpitt oscillator is provided.
- a mosfet is also provided according to the invention.
- one embodiment of the invention provides that the collector of the transistor is connected to the base of a further transistor acting as an amplifier, which is connected in series with the capacitor is.
- the transistor generating the wake-up signal is preferably also a field effect transistor, the gate of which is connected to the collector of the transistor, a point between a resistor and a further capacitor being connected to the latter, which series connection to the battery voltage is laid. If the transistor is de-energized, the potential at the gate changes and the desired wake-up signal can be generated.
- the single figure shows a circuit diagram of the switch-on sensor according to the invention.
- a transistor T1 which is formed by a MOSFET, together with capacitors C1 and C2 and a sensor coil L, forms a capacitively coupled Collpitts oscillator.
- the oscillator is connected via a parallel connection of a capacitor C3 and a resistor R1 and via a resistor R2 to the terminals 10, 12 of a battery which belongs to an electronic coin validator (not shown).
- a transistor T2, which is also connected to the terminals 10, 12 with resistors R3, R5 and R6 connected in series, is arranged in an emitter follower circuit, so that its base lies at the output of the oscillator.
- a capacitor C4 is connected in parallel with the resistor R3.
- the collector of transistor T2 lies at the base of a further transistor T3, the collector of which is above a resistor R8 is connected to a junction of resistor R3 and capacitor C4.
- the emitter of the transistor T3 is on the one hand at a connection point between the resistors R5 and R6 and on the other hand at the base of a further transistor T4, the collector of which is connected to a connection point between a resistor R7 and a capacitor C5, which are connected in series at the terminals 10, 12 of the battery.
- This connection point is also located at the gate of a field effect transistor T5, a switch-on or wake-up signal appearing between the drain and source of the transistor T5.
- the circuit arrangement shown works as follows.
- the capacitor C4 is discharged via the resistor R3 just enough that the capacitor C4 is recharged at each lower peak of the oscillator output voltage. If the sensor coil L is damped by a coin, the oscillator voltage collapses by a few mV and the capacitor C4 is no longer recharged over many periods, for example 10 to 50 ms.
- transistors T2, T3 and T4 become currentless and the voltage on capacitor C5 increases. As a result, the transistor T5 becomes conductive and generates the wake-up signal.
- the absolute is in the circuit shown Oscillator output voltage level not significant. All that matters is the change in level when a coin approaches.
- the described mode of operation of the circuit makes it possible to process oscillator levels of 0.7 to 2 volts without the sensitivity of the circuit changing significantly. Another advantage is that if the oscillator fails, for example in the event of extreme condensation, no continuous wake-up signal is generated. Clamping a coin in the area of the switch-on sensor also does not lead to a continuous wake-up signal.
