Definitions
- the invention relates to an electric lamp according to the preamble of claim 1.
- Such lamps are, for example, halogen incandescent lamps with a quartz glass bulb or high-pressure discharge lamps with a discharge vessel made of quartz glass, in which the lamp bulb or the discharge vessel is sealed by means of metal foil seals.
- the incandescent filament or the electrodes are supplied with electrical energy via these melted-on metal foils (molybdenum foils), by means of which the discharge vessel is sealed in a gastight manner, and via current leads welded to them.
- EP-A 184 867 discloses forced cooling of the lamp from the outside, which likewise ensures protection against oxidation of the melted-in metal foils and the power supply parts welded to them.
- This forced cooling essentially consists of a heat-dissipating steel wool that surrounds the metal foil melts.
- the patent US Pat. No. 4,20,097 describes a high-pressure discharge lamp with a base on one side and a discharge vessel which is closed on both sides and which is arranged in the axis of symmetry of a parabolic reflector.
- the reflector neck and one end of the discharge vessel are fixed in a base sleeve, the base sleeve and the reflector neck enclosing the discharge vessel end anchored in the base at a distance, so that the remaining air gap between the discharge vessel and the reflector neck or base body cools the discharge vessel and in particular the discharge vessel near the base allow the surrounding air.
- the patent US 4,967,330 discloses a light-emitting diode which is surrounded by a hollow cylinder.
- the open ends of the hollow cylinder allow cooling of the light-emitting diode and thus ensure an optimal operating temperature of the light-emitting diode.
- the temperature at the lamp ends in the immediate vicinity of the metal pins projecting from them can be reduced to such an extent that no significant oxidation occurs the power supply parts of the lamp occurs.
- only the lamp bulb ends are cooled in the cooling device according to the invention, so that the processes taking place within the lamp bulb, such as, for example, the halogen cycle process or the filling composition in the gas discharge, are not impaired.
- the cooling device according to the invention enables a compact design for the lamps, since they do not change the external dimensions of the lamps and there is no need for an envelope bulb.
- a high-pressure discharge lamp with a base on one side is shown schematically in FIG. It has a discharge vessel 1 made of quartz glass with two diametrically arranged ends 1a, 1b, in each of which a molybdenum foil 2a, 2b is melted in a gas-tight manner.
- a tungsten electrode 3a, 3b, which extends into the discharge space 1c, and a metal pin 4a, 4b protruding from the discharge vessel 1a, 1b and consisting of molybdenum are welded to the molybdenum foils 2a, 2b.
- the discharge vessel 1 is fixed at its end 1a in a G 22 base 5 made of ceramic.
- the base 5 has two metallic contact pins 6a, 6b for the electrical voltage supply of the lamp.
- Each contact pin 6a, 6b is in each case electrically conductively connected to one of the molybdenum pins 4a, 4b protruding from the discharge vessel via a hollow, tubular power supply 7a, 7b.
- the tubular current leads 7a, 7b are each welded to the corresponding molybdenum pin 4a, 4b and guided to the contact pins 6a, 6b by means of bushings in the base 5.
- the contact pins 6a, 6b have matching receptacles, in each of which one end of the corresponding power supply 7a, 7b is inserted and welded or soldered to the contact pin 6a, 6b.
- the lamp base 5 To cool the lamp ends 1a, 1b, the lamp base 5 has two laterally arranged cooling gas connections 8a, 8b, each of which is connected to one of the hollow power supply lines 7a and 7b.
- the tubular power supply lines 7a, 7b are made of nickel and have an outside diameter of approximately 3 mm and a wall thickness of approximately 0.5 mm in a 1200 W high-pressure discharge lamp.
- the ends of these current leads 7a, 7b which are welded to the molybdenum pins 4a, 4b, are shaped such that the cooling gas flow is directed onto the lamp bulb ends 1a, 1b.
- a ventilation opening 9 is also provided in the lamp base 5 so that the cooling gas flow can escape from the tubular power supply 7a.
- the cooling gas preferably air or nitrogen, is blown by means of a blower (not shown) through the connections 8a, 8b and the hollow power supply lines 7a, 7b and directed onto the lamp bulb ends la, 1b.
- FIG. 2 shows a schematic illustration of a high-pressure discharge lamp based on one side, according to a second exemplary embodiment.
- This second exemplary embodiment differs from the first exemplary embodiment described above only in that the ends 1a, 1b of the discharge vessel are sealed with a glass solder 10 in the region of the molybdenum pins 4a, 4b protruding from them.
- the two exemplary embodiments are the same in all other details.
- the glass solder 10 offers the particularly vulnerable welding points between the molybdenum foils 2a, 2b and the molybdenum pins 4a, 4b an additional protection against oxidation.
- FIG. 3 shows a schematic illustration of a high-pressure discharge lamp according to the invention, which is capped on one side, in accordance with a third exemplary embodiment. It differs from the first exemplary embodiment only in the area of the lamp base 5 '.
- the lamp base 5 ' has no laterally arranged cooling gas connections as in the first embodiment.
- the cooling gas is here supplied to the tubular current leads 7a ', 7b' via the electrical contact pins 6a ', 6b' which protrude from the lamp base 5 '.
- the contact pins 6a ', 6b', into which the tubular current leads 7a ', 7b' open, are also tubular.
- the electrical contact pins 6a ', 6b' thus serve both for the power supply and for the supply of cooling gas for the high-pressure discharge lamp.
- the cooling gas used is preferably air or an inert gas such as e.g. Nitrogen, which is supplied to the lamp by means of a blower (not shown) via the lamp holder (not shown).
- an inert gas such as e.g. Nitrogen
- the invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiments specified here. It can also be used, for example, on thermally highly stressed, single-ended halogen incandescent lamps. Furthermore, the invention can be used with minor adaptations even for thermally heavily loaded, double-ended electrical lamps (high-pressure discharge lamps, halogen incandescent lamps).
- the tube-like power supply can also consist of another heat-resistant metal, for example stainless steel.
- the dimensions of these power supplies are not very critical. For example, their outside diameter can be between 2 - 4 mm and their wall thickness can be between 0.4 and 1.0 mm.
