Definitions
- Such a discharge lamp is for example in the European patent EP 0 858 098 B1.
- This document describes a high pressure metal halide discharge lamp for vehicle headlights with a discharge vessel Quartz glass, inside of which an ionizable filling is enclosed gas-tight.
- the discharge vessel has two sealed ends, each with a feedthrough and one electrode each, each with one of the current feedthroughs are connected and which protrude into the interior of the discharge vessel.
- the section of the electrodes embedded in the quartz glass is in each case of a spiral encased to reduce cracks in the quartz glass.
- the published patent application EP 1 111 655 A1 describes one consisting of molybdenum Melting film for lamp construction, with a coating containing ruthenium is provided.
- This sealing film is part of a current feedthrough, which is arranged in a sealed end of a lamp vessel. through this gas-tightly melted foil in the end of the lamp vessel will Sealed lamp vessel.
- the coating containing ruthenium enables one better welded connection between the sealing foil and the associated ones Power supply wires.
- Cracks caused by the different coefficients of thermal expansion of the discharge vessel material and the electrode material and through adhesion of the discharge vessel material to the electrodes are avoided without additional components such as those mentioned above State of the art listed spirals are used.
- the discharge lamp according to the invention has a discharge vessel, in the interior thereof an ionizable filling is enclosed gas-tight.
- the discharge vessel has at least one sealed end with a feedthrough, those with a protruding into the interior of the discharge vessel and themselves is connected into the sealed end extending electrode.
- the portion of the electrode extending into the sealed end with a Coating provided that a high-melting metal from the group of platinum metals contains.
- high-melting means that the Melting temperature of the platinum metals above the processing temperature of the discharge vessel material, which is required to seal its ends.
- Discharge vessel of high-pressure discharge lamps usually consists of quartz glass, preferably one of the platinum metals ruthenium, Iridium, osmium or rhodium are used.
- the coating according to the invention extends at least over a portion of the surface of the sealed end protruding electrode section or preferably even over the entire Surface of the above electrode section. Because of that in the sealed end of the discharge vessel extending portion of the electrode the above-mentioned coating according to the invention is provided. becomes liability reduced so far between the material of the discharge vessel and the electrode, that by the stronger compared to the surrounding discharge vessel material thermal expansion of the electrode only low mechanical stresses in the sealed end of the discharge vessel are generated, which does not destroy the Cause discharge discharge.
- the coating consists of ruthenium or a ruthenium alloy, in particular an alloy of ruthenium the electrode material.
- the invention can be applied particularly advantageously to discharge lamps, the Current feedthroughs have to carry a comparatively high current and whose discharge vessel is made of quartz glass.
- Metal halide high-pressure discharge lamps are an example of this for vehicle headlights and especially mercury-free Metal halide high-intensity discharge lamps.
- These high pressure discharge lamps usually have a quartz glass discharge vessel with seals Ends that have current feedthroughs with molybdenum foil seals. Those protruding into the discharge space, usually made of tungsten Electrodes of the lamp are connected to the molybdenum foil seals.
- the mercury-free metal halide high-pressure discharge lamps especially need thick electrodes because they have to carry an even higher current than that usual metal halide high-pressure discharge lamps for vehicle headlights. The problem described above therefore occurs to an even greater extent in these lamps than with other high-pressure discharge lamps.
- FIG. 1 The embodiment of the invention shown in FIG. 1 is concerned is a mercury-free metal halide high-pressure discharge lamp with a electrical power consumption of approx. 35 watts.
- This high pressure discharge lamp has a discharge vessel 1 made of quartz glass with an interior 10 and two diametrically arranged, sealed ends 11, 12, each having a current feedthrough 2, 3 have. Two diametrically arranged electrodes protrude into the interior 10 4, 5, which are each connected to one of the current bushings 2 and 3 and between which a gas discharge forms during lamp operation.
- an ionizable filling which consists of xenon and several metal halides.
- the discharge vessel 1 is surrounded by an outer bulb 6, which consists of quartz glass with Ultraviolet radiation absorbing dopants is provided.
- the lamp points Furthermore, a plastic base 7, which carries the two lamp vessels 1, 6 and is equipped with the electrical connections 8 of the lamp.
- the current feedthrough 2 of the base distal end 11 of the discharge vessel 1 is via the current feedback 9 connected to the first electrical connector 8 while the other Power feedthrough 5 with a second electrical connection (not shown) the lamp is connected.
- the complete control gear can Lamp or parts of the operating device, for example the ignition device, arranged his.
- FIG. 2 shows details of the discharge vessel 1 and the current feedthrough 2 sealed ends 11, 12 of the discharge vessel 1 each have a current feedthrough 2, 3 on.
- the current bushings 2, 3 each have a gas-tight embedded molybdenum foil 21 or 31 on the respective end 11 or 12.
- the side of the respective molybdenum foil facing away from the interior 10 of the discharge vessel 1 21 and 31 are welded to a molybdenum wire 22 and 32, which protrudes from the corresponding sealed end 11 or 12.
- the one Interior 10 of the discharge vessel 1 facing the side of the respective molybdenum foil 21 and 31 is each with a rod-shaped electrode made of tungsten 4 or 5 welded, which protrude into the discharge space 10.
- a coating 410 which are made of ruthenium or a ruthenium-tungsten alloy, which can form after coating.
- Your layer thickness is approximately 500 nm.
- the length of the electrode 4 is 6.5 mm and its thickness 0.33 mm.
- the section protruding into the interior 10 of the discharge vessel 1 42 of the electrode 4 has no coating in order to avoid the Components of the ionizable filling or those within the discharge space occurring gas discharge can be influenced by ruthenium.
- the other electrode 5 is identical to the electrode 4.
- the invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiment explained in more detail above.
- the entire one does not have to extend into the sealed end 11 Provide section 41 of the electrodes 4 and 5 with the ruthenium layer 410 his. It is sufficient if only parts of those in contact with the quartz glass Coat the surface of the electrode with the coating containing ruthenium to significantly reduce the risk of cracks in the quartz glass.
- those extending into the sealed end 11 or 12 can also Portions of the molybdenum wires 22, 32 with a coating containing ruthenium be provided to further reduce the risk of cracks in the quartz glass.
