Definitions
- the invention relates to an air purification cartridge for a respirator with a carbon dioxide-binding chemical filling and an insert which has perpendicularly to the flow direction radially arranged legs facing the cartridge wall, which, starting from a center, break down the chemical filling into individual chemical strands.
- the known air cleaning cartridge has become known from US 41 93 966.
- the known air cleaning cartridge has individual, star-shaped inserts, which are accommodated in a cylindrical cartridge housing and the spaces between which are filled with a carbon dioxide-binding chemical.
- the inserts are made of solid, metallic material and have legs in the radial direction, which converge in a center and whose free leg ends lie against the wall of the cartridge housing.
- a disadvantage of the known air cleaning cartridge is that filling the interstices between the legs is only possible with a limited packing density due to the rigidity of the legs, as a result of which such air cleaning cartridges are not vibration-resistant and shock-proof during operation. Vibration and shock resistant in this context means that the chemical Do not "grate" when using the device, for example if a respirator is worn on the "man” for several years in case of an emergency in underground mining.
- only radial heat conduction within the air cleaning cartridge is possible with an insert of the type mentioned. If a carbon dioxide-binding and oxygen-generating substance, e.g. potassium peroxide, is used as the chemical filling, a good heat distribution or heat storage capacity through the insert is necessary both in the radial and in the circumferential direction for uniform breathing of the air cleaning cartridge instead of heat conduction in the radial direction.
- an air cleaning cartridge in which a uniform packing density is achieved by filling a wire screen belt with the chemical and then winding it up in a spiral.
- ribs are provided within the wire mesh belt, which ribs can be zigzag or wave-shaped. This is to achieve an even heat distribution and breathing of the air cleaning cartridge.
- a disadvantage of the known air cleaning cartridge is that the use of a wire screen belt is expensive and the filling and rolling up of the wire screen belt cannot be carried out inexpensively in mass production.
- the volume of the wire mesh belt also reduces the amount of chemicals with which the air cleaning cartridge can be filled. Since the external dimensions of the air cleaning cartridges are largely fixed by standardization, inserts must be designed with the smallest possible volume be. With regard to dynamic load-bearing capacity, an air cleaning cartridge with a wire mesh belt as an insert only has a limited shock resistance, since the wire mesh belt can permanently deform under the influence of load, thereby destroying the uniform packing density.
- the invention has for its object to improve an air cleaning cartridge with an insert such that it has a good heat distribution in the circumferential direction, has sufficient vibration and shock resistance and is inexpensive to manufacture.
- the legs of the insert have a resilience which compensates for the different degree of filling of the chemical strands and are each designed with an angled zigzag shape.
- the advantage of the invention is essentially that the flexible legs, which start from a center, can be used to compensate for different degrees of filling in the individual chemical strands, and thus a vibration-resistant and shock-resistant filling of the air cleaning cartridge with the chemical is possible.
- Resilient means elastic or plastic deformability of the legs, so that different degrees of filling between adjacent chemical strands can be adapted. Due to the similar zigzag-shaped bending of the legs, an angled shape of the chemical strands is achieved, in which heat is distributed both in the radial direction and in the circumferential direction. Experiments have shown that by working together the individual angled parts of the legs have a similar heat distribution as is possible with closed rings inserted in the air cleaning cartridge.
- Air cleaning cartridges with inserted closed rings do not allow vibration and shock-resistant filling with the chemical, since it is not possible to compensate for different degrees of filling between the rings.
- the two-dimensional heat storage capacity within the air cleaning cartridge obtained with the angled legs results in a homogeneous heat distribution and good breathing of the chemical filling.
- the leg ends are angled such that they are tangential to the cartridge wall. This ensures that the leg ends form the part of an outer polygon that is used for heat storage and heat distribution within the air cleaning cartridge in the circumferential direction in the region of the cartridge wall.
- the diameter of the outer polygon is expediently designed such that it is smaller than the clear width of the air cleaning cartridge. This results in a uniform heat distribution in the area of the cartridge wall of the air cleaning cartridge and dissipation of the heat to the cartridge wall is prevented due to the lack of wall contact.
- the legs is advantageous to bend the legs between the center and the ends of the legs in such a way that they run piecewise as leg sections tangential to the cartridge wall and form the part of at least one inner polygon.
- the inner polygon is used for heat storage and heat distribution in Circumferential direction within the associated part of the chemical filling.
- By additionally angling the legs it is also possible to produce a plurality of inner polygon courses which improve the heat distribution in the circumferential direction within the air cleaning cartridge.
- the legs in such a way that the angular sequence starting from the center consists of a first angle of 90 degrees counterclockwise, a second angle of 45 degrees clockwise and a third angle of 90 degrees counterclockwise.
- the leg sections that are chamfered by the first angle form the inner polygon.
- the insert is expediently designed so that the center is designed as a central strand containing the chemical filling.
- Inexpensive manufacture of the insert is achieved if it consists of a number of n legs of the same type, which, with their central leg sections, comprise the central strand in the form of an n-corner, preferably a symmetrical octagon.
- a particularly useful flexibility of the legs is achieved if they are made of stainless steel strip.
- Stainless steel has the heat storage capacity required for this application.
- the diameter of the inner traverse is designed so that it corresponds to 0.5 times the part and that of the outer traverse to 0.8 times the clear width of the air cleaning cartridge.
- the central strand has an average diameter of 0.2 times the clear width of the air cleaning cartridge.
- the central leg sections have a reduced leg width in the region of the central strand. This enables particularly good filling in the area of the center by overflow by dispensing the excess to the adjacent chemical strand.
- the single figure shows an air cleaning cartridge (1) in section, which consists of a cartridge housing (2), an insert (3) and a chemical filling (4).
- the direction of flow is perpendicular to the plane of the drawing.
- the chemical filling (4) which fills the entire cartridge housing (2), only one chemical strand (5) is shown in the figure.
- the insert (3) consists of eight angled legs (6) which are joined together in the center to form a central strand (7) in the form of a symmetrical octagon.
- the central strand (7) is formed from the central leg sections (16), which are part of the legs (6).
- the legs (6) are folded starting from the central strand (7) with a first angle (8) of 90 degrees counterclockwise, a second angle (9) of 45 degrees clockwise and a third angle (10) of 90 degrees counterclockwise. Bending creates leg sections (15) and leg ends (13).
- the leg sections (15) are part of an inner polygon (11) and the leg ends (13) are part of an outer polygon (12).
- a section of the polygons (11, 12) is illustrated in the figure as a broken line.
- the leg ends (13), the Leg sections (15) and the central leg sections (16) run tangentially to the cartridge wall (14).
- the legs (6) are made of stainless steel strip 0.2 mm thick and can be moved against each other. In this way, different degrees of filling in the chemical strands (5) can be compensated.
- the radially extending parts of the legs (6) are used for heat storage within the cartridge housing (2) in the radial direction and the leg sections (15), the leg ends (13) and the central leg sections (16) for heat storage in the circumferential direction. This results in an even, two-dimensional heat distribution within the air cleaning cartridge (1) and good breathing of the chemical filling (4).
- the central strand (7) is also provided with the chemical filling (4), but this is not shown in the figure for the sake of clarity.
- the adaptation to the degree of filling takes place here in that the central leg sections (16) in the region of the central strand (7) have a reduced leg width and the excess space thus created can be used to transfer the excess to the adjacent chemical strand (5). This enables a high packing density of the chemical filling (4) to be achieved.

Abstract
