Definitions
- the invention relates to a coolant pump according to the preamble of claim 1.
- Such a coolant pump is known from DE-OS 36 11 910.
- the impeller for a radial pump is preferably formed by a polymer material and consists of two spaced-apart cover disks which are connected to one another by blades.
- the impeller of the radial pump should be able to be manufactured in a series tool without moving molded parts.
- a coolant pump according to the preamble is known from US 29 22,374.
- the task is seen in achieving an improved performance and an increase in the efficiency of the pump in order to achieve a larger pumping capacity without additional material expenditure, which would lead to an increase in the pump size.
- a special design of the impeller is to reduce the distance between the impeller and the pump housing to a minimum. Due to the changed gap between the pump housing and the impeller, such as staggered or labyrinthine spaces in combination with narrow impeller blades or ribs on the back of the impeller, a precisely predeterminable delivery rate of the coolant pump cannot be achieved. In extreme cases, the impeller and the pump housing come into contact with this version, which means the performance characteristics become lost and the coolant pump is damaged.
- a coolant pump according to the preamble is known from US Pat. No. 3,632,220.
- radial displacements of the shaft impair the delivery capacity of the coolant pump and that there may be contact between the impeller and the pump housing. Both the properties of use and the period of use are unsatisfactory.
- the invention has for its object that tilting movements of the drive shaft, which carries the impeller, do not lead to direct contact between the impeller and the bearing cap and the delivery performance is not affected when the two components are displaced from each other.
- the impeller ends axially in the area of the open zones, enclose the center point of the bearing in all partial areas at an equal distance R.
- the inlet opening is enclosed in all parts by immovable components of the impeller.
- the entrance cross-section is accordingly set to precise values. Regardless of the particularities that arise in individual cases during assembly, this ensures a precisely definable delivery rate. This greatly improves the options for optimally adapting the individual elements of the cooling system to one another.
- Tilting movements of the shaft carrying the impeller which result from wear of the bearing due to wear or from the design of the bearing can, with such a configuration, no longer lead to direct contact between the impeller and the bearing cap, but only to a parallel displacement of the mutually opposite surfaces.
- the delivery rate of the cooling water pump is not affected in any way.
- the surfaces in all partial areas have a distance D of a corresponding size from a counter surface of the bearing cover.
- the profile of the counter surface can complement the profile of the second cover while avoiding a sudden change in direction, which is of great advantage for achieving a good conveying capacity.
- the impeller can be covered radially within the open zones of the axial end facing away from the pump housing by a concentrically designed, second cover that is liquid-impermeable in the axial direction. With economical use of materials, this results in a design which has great rigidity. It can be produced particularly inexpensively in the injection molding process or by pressing using a tool which has only two mold halves.
- the first and the second cover can be delimited on the mutually facing sides by surfaces curved in the same direction, expediently by surfaces of a profile, in which the curvature in the different partial areas is adapted to the direction of flow of the cooling water which is passed through during the intended use. In addition to a particularly good service life of the cooling water pump, this optimizes the efficiency.
- the second cover can have an outer diameter that is at most as large as the inner diameter of the first cover.
- the wings of the This design connects the impeller to a cover at any distance from the axis of rotation, which significantly improves the mechanical resistance. It has proven to be particularly advantageous in this regard if the impeller and the covers are integrally merged into one another. They can optionally be made of metal or plastic, and injection molding or pressing processes are preferably used in the production.
- a particularly precise relative assignment of the cooling water pump to the associated pump housing can be achieved if the pump cover is sealed off from the pump housing by a ring seal. It is expediently arranged in a groove of the pump cover, which is dimensioned so large that only an elastic deformation of the O-ring results when a stop contact between the pump cover and the pump housing is reached.
- the coolant pump shown is intended for use on the pump housing 1 of an internal combustion engine. It comprises a pump cover 3 which can be fixed in a bore 2 of the pump housing 1 and in which a pump shaft 4 is mounted.
- the pump shaft 4 can, for example, be produced in one piece with a pulley 6 from a metallic material. The usage a plastic is also possible.
- the pump shaft 4 carries on its end projecting axially in the direction of the pump housing 1, a non-rotatably fixed impeller 5 and is relatively rotatably supported by means of a roller bearing 16 via the pulley 6 on a projecting shoulder of the pump cover 3.
- the approach also encloses a mechanical seal 17 which touches the impeller 5 on the side facing away from the pump housing 1 in the axial direction in a relatively rotatable and sealing manner.
- the pump cover 3 is provided with a circumferential flange surface 14 which is interrupted by a circumferential groove 15 which is open in the direction of the pump housing 1.
- An O-ring seal 13 is arranged in the groove 15, which consists of rubber-elastic material and which seals the contact surfaces to one another after the pump cover 3 has been attached to the pump housing 1.
- Impeller 5 is provided at the axial end facing the pump housing 1 with an annularly limited, concentric inlet opening 7, the impeller 5 in the radially outside of the inlet opening 7 being covered by a liquid-impermeable, concentrically formed, first cover 8 in the axial direction and the impeller 5 being axially open in the zones 9 of the other end axially opposite the first cover.
- the impeller 5 is covered radially within the open zones 9 of the axial end facing away from the pump housing 1 by a concentrically designed second cover 10 which is liquid-impermeable in the axial direction, the first and second covers 8, 10 being covered on the sides facing one another surfaces 11 curved in the same direction are limited.
- the surfaces 11 can also be assigned to one another in other ways.
- the second cover 10 has an outer diameter that is at most as large as the inside diameter of the first cover 8.
- the impeller 5 can thereby be easily produced in one piece from metal or plastic in the press, injection or injection molding process using a molding tool which has only two mold halves. In addition to great shape retention, it is characterized by particularly high mechanical resistance and smooth surfaces. This effectively counteracts the occurrence of cavitation symptoms during the intended use.
- the impeller 5 ends axially in the region of the open zones 9 in surfaces which enclose the center point 18 of the bearing 16 in all partial regions with the same distance R.
- the surfaces have a distance D of corresponding size from the rotationally symmetrical counter surface of the pump cover 3 in all areas. This ensures that a tilting of the pump shaft 4 and the impeller 5 caused or caused by wear of the bearing 16 does not directly lead to a stop contact between the leads in the area of the zones 9 opposite surfaces.
- the surfaces only experience a parallel shift in relation to each other. A change in the delivery rate of the coolant pump is definitely avoided.
