Abstract
Description
- Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von metallischen Legierungen für Vormaterialien, Bauteile, Werkstücke od. dgl. aus Titan-Aluminium-Basislegierungen, wobei die geschmolzenen Ausgangsmaterialien in eine Kokille abgegossen und das Gußstück umgeschmolzen wird. Ferner betrifft die Erfindung eine Vorrichtung zur Herstellung von metallischen Legierungen, insbesondere mit geordnetem Kristallgitter für Vormaterialien, Bauteile, Werkstücke od. dgl. aus Titan- Aluminium-Basislegierungen mit maximal 40 bis 60 Atom- % Titan, mit einer Schmelzeinrichtung.
- Bei der Herstellung von Titan-Aluminium-Basislegierungen bestehen derzeit größte Schwierigkeiten, eine ausreichende Duktilität bzw. Verformbarkeit der hergestellten Legierungsgegenstände zu erreichen. Insbesondere bereitet der hohe Gasgehalt, insbesondere Sauerstoff, der auf herkömmliche Art hergestellten Legierungen Schwierigkeiten und verhindert eine hohe Duktilität und Verformbarkeit. Der üblicherweise nach Meinung des Fachmannes gangbare Weg, derartige Legierungen aus pulverförmigen Ausgangsmaterialien zu erschmelzen bzw. durch einen HIP-Vorgang herzustellen, schlägt fehl.
- Völlig überraschenderweise wurde nunmehr gefunden, daß gut verformbare Legierungsbauteile erstellt werden können, wenn die Legierungskomponenten bzw. Ausgangsmaterialien in stückiger Form im wesentlichen anteilsmäßig entsprechend der Legierungszusammensetzung bereitgestellt und in einem Schmelztiegel geschmolzen werden, wobei die gewünschte Legierungszusammensetzung mit maximal 40 bis 60 Atom-% Titan im Schmelztiegel durch Zulegieren von einer oder mehrerer, gegebenenfalls weiteren, Legierungskomponente(n) eingestellt wird, und daß die Schmelze aus diesem Schmelztiegel zu vorteilhafterweise langgestreckten Blöcken bzw. Stäben abgegossen wird, die daraufhin selbstverzehrend als Elektrode eines Lichtbogen- Schmelzofens, vorzugsweise im Vakuum, zu einem dichten Block bzw. Vormaterial für Bauteile umgeschmolzen werden.
- Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren bietet den Vorteil, daß auf die Pulverisierung der Ausgangsmaterialien verzichtet werden kann und daß vorteilhafterweise als Ausgangsmaterial stückige Reinmetalle und/oder stückiger Schrott und/oder stückiger Rücklaufschrott eingesetzt werden können, um legierungstechnisch homogene Elektroden mit niedrigen Gasgehalten herzustellen. Gleichzeitig kann jedoch auch eine genaue Einstellung der Legierungszusammensetzung der Schmelze erfolgen, wobei jedoch die verfahrensmäßigen Aufwendungen gering bleiben.
- Bei einer bevorzugten Durchführungsform des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens ist vorgesehen, daß die Ausgangsmaterialien in einem gekühlten metallischen Schmelztiegel mit zumindest einer um ihre Längsachse sich verdrehenden, insbesondere wassergekühlten Elektrode aus Kupfer, Titan, Aluminium oder einer Legierungskomponente oder zumindest einer Plasma- oder Elektronenstrahlschmelzeinrichtung, vorzugsweise unter Schutzgas mit vermindertem Druck, niedergeschmolzen werden. Auf diese Weise erfolgt ein energiesparendes und die Legierungszusammensetzung nicht beeinflussendes Erschmelzen der stückigen Ausgangsmaterialien mit einer Elektrode aus Metallen, welche die Legierungseigenschaften nicht nachteilig beeinflussen. Ferner werden durch den Einsatz des Lichtbogens bzw. gegebenenfalls Plasma- oder Elektronenstrahles eine hohe örtliche Energie- bzw. Temperatureinbringung und gleichzeitig eine vollständig homogene Mischung der Legierungsmetalle bzw. eingeordnetes Kristallfilter erreicht.
- Beste Ergebnisse erhält man, wenn der Sauerstoffgehalt der Legierung durch das Schmelzen und Umschmelzen, gegebenenfalls in Verbindung mit zumindest einem HIP-Vorgang, auf weniger als 600 ppm, vorzugsweise weniger als 500 ppm, eingestellt wird.
- Eine Vorrichtung der eingangs genannen Art ist erfindungsgemäß dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Schmelzeinrichtung einen gekühlten metallischen Schmelztiegel, vorzugsweise aus Cu, zum Aufschmelzen der stückigen Ausgangsmaterialien umfaßt, wobei zum Aufschmelzen zumindest eine gekühlte, sich um ihre Längsachse drehende Elektrode aus Kupfer, Aluminium, Titan oder einer Legierungskomponente vorgesehen ist, und daß der Schmelzeinrichtung eine Vakuumlichtbogen- Schmelzeinrichtung zum Umschmelzen der durch Abgießen der Schmelze aus dem Schmelztiegel in vorteilhafterweise langgestreckte Kokillen in einer Gießstation erhaltenen Gußstücke nachgeordnet ist. Auf diese Weise wird eine einfach aufgebaute Einheit zur Erschmelzung von Titan- Aluminium-Basislegierungen erstellt, bei der die Erstellung der Legierungen rasch und ohne große Transportwege und Energieverluste erfolgen kann.
- Einen weiteren Gegenstand der Erfindung bildet die Verwendung einer Vorrichtung bzw. einer Schmelzeinrichtung, umfassend einen gekühlten, vorzugsweise flüssigkeitsgekühlten, metallischen Schmelztiegel und zumindest eine in den Schmelztiegel ragende bzw. in diesen einführbare, sich um ihre Längsachse drehende Elektrode aus Kupfer, Titan, Aluminium oder einer Legierungskomponente zum Aufschmelzen von stückigen Ausgangsmaterialien zur Herstellung von Titan-Aluminium-Basislegierungen.
- Im folgenden wird die Erfindung anhand der Zeichnung beispielsweise näher erläutert, die ein Ausführungsbeispiel einer erfindungsgemäßen Vorrichtung zur Herstellung von Titan- Aluminium-Basislegierungen zeigt.
- Mit A ist eine Lagerstätte für stückiges Ausgangsmaterial, z.B. in Form von Reinmetallen, Vorlegierungen, Rücklaufschrott od. dgl. angedeutet, wobei verschiedene Komponenten, z.B. Aluminium bzw. aluminiumhältiger Schrott 1, Titan bzw. titanhältiger Schrott 1' bzw. Legierungsbestandteile bzw. Legierungsbestandteile enthaltenderChromschrott bzw. Schrott 1" dargestelltsind; die Gehalte an Aluminium, Titan und allenfalls weiteren erwünschten Legierungsmaterialien in den Ausgangsmaterialien ist bekannt und die zusammengemischten Ausgangsmaterialien ergeben in Summe etwa die gewünschte Legierungszusammensetzung.
- Mit B ist eine Einrichtung zur Reinigung der Oberflächen der Ausgangsmaterialien bezeichnet, wozu z.B. Sandstrahlgebläse, Abbeizeinrichungen od. dgl. vorgesehen sein können.
- Mit C ist allgemein eine Schmelzeinrichtung bezeichnet. Diese Schmelzeinrichtung umfaßt eine Chargierkammer 2 mit einer Türe 21, die Zutritt zu einer Schüttelrinne S ermöglicht. Auf die Schüttelrinne S werden die allenfalls zerkleinerten Ausgangsmaterialien von der Reinigungseinrichtung B bzw. vom Lager A über eine Zuführungseinrichtung 11 eingebracht. Die Schüttelrinne fördert die Legierungsbestandteile bzw. den Schrott in einen Schmelztiegel 35, der vorzugsweise aus Kupfer besteht und flüssigkeitsgekühlt ist. Mit 34 sind dem Schmelztiegel 35 gegebenenfalls zugeordnete Schlackengefäße bezeichnet. In den in einer Schmelzenkammer 3 angeordneten Schmelztiegel 35 ist eine Elektrode 36 einführbar. Diese Elektrode 36 ist eine gekühlte, sich nicht verzehrende Elektrode, welche um ihre Längsachse rotiert. Diese Elektrode 36 kann in den Schmelzentiegel 35 abgesenkt werden und schmilzt die Legierungsbestandteile bzw. den Schrott durch Ausbildung eines Lichtbogens zwischen ihrer gekühlten Oberfläche und dem Schrott bzw. dem Schmelzenbad.
- Mit 31 ist schematisch eine Vorrichtung zur Porbenentnahme bzw. zur Zufuhr von Legierungsbestandteilen zur genauen Einstellung der Zusammensetzung der Schmelze, mit 32 sind Beobachtungsmittel für die Schmelze und mit 33 ein Vakuumanschluß für die Schmelzenkammer bzw. die Chargierkammer2 bezeichnet, welche gegebenenfalls über eine Schleuse 22 von der Schmelzenkammer 3 getrennt sein bzw. werden kann.
- Die Schmelzeneinrichtung C umfaßt ferner eine Gießstation 4, in der langgestreckte Kokillen 5 angeordnet sind, in die die Schmelze aus dem Schmelztiegel 35 abgegossen wird. Die gegebenenfalls vorgewärmten und/oder wärmeisolierten Kokillen 5 sind mit einer isolierenden Haube 51 versehen, so daß Gefügespannungen und unerwünschte Kristallisationserscheinungen ausgeschaltet werden.
- Die in den Kokillen 5 ausgebildeten langgestreckten Blöcke sind weitgehend homogen und können gegebenenfalls einer HIP-Einrichtung D zugeführt werden, in der sie heißisostatisch gepreßt werden. Anschließend können die Blöcke einer Oberflächenbearbeitung bzw.- reinigung unterworfen werden, bevor sie einem Vakuum-Lichtbogenofen zugeführt werden. In dieser Vakuum-Umschmelzeinrichtung F werden die Blöcke 6 als Elektrodenblöcke 6' in einem Ofengefäß 7 angeordnet und mittels eines Lichtbogens umgeschmolzen. Die dabei entstehenden Blöcke 8 werden gegebenenfalls einerweiteren HIP-Einrichtung G zugeführt und daraufhin einer Verformungseinrichtung H zugeführt, in der die Blöcke warmverformt werden. Bei 9 werden die fertiggestellten Vormaterialien, Gegenstände usw. zur weiteren Verwendung abgeführt.
- Es zeigte sich, daß es sehr leicht möglich ist, duktile und verformbare Legierungsprodukte zu erhalten, die einen Sauerstoffgehalt von weniger als 600 ppm aufweisen. Ohne besondere Anforderungen an die Ausgangsmaterialien bzw. an die Vakuum-Umschmelzeinrichtung F bzw. an die Schmelzeinrichtung C zu stellen, konnte ein Sauerstoffgehalt von weniger als 450 ppm bzw. ein Stickstoffgehalt von weniger als 80 ppm und ein Wasserstoffgehalt von weniger als 6 ppm erreicht werden, wobei höchste Legierungshomogenität vorlag.
- Insbesondere zeigten die hergestellten Legierungsbauteile auch eine wesentlich bessere Warmverformbarkeit in Temperaturbereichen oberhalb von 650 bzw. 700 Grad C, welche Legierungseigenschaften bei einer pulvermetallurgischen Herstellung keinesfalls erreicht werden konnten.
