Definitions

  • the invention relates to a socket for multi-pole plug devices according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • Such a socket is known for example from DE-U-7 812 822.
  • the installation of such a socket has so far been carried out in such a way that the multi-core conductor strand is pulled from the power source or the actuating elements to the point where the socket is to be arranged through several relatively small openings and recesses, for example in a motor vehicle from the battery or the dashboard usually to a point on the body in the area of the rear bumper.
  • There are the The ends of the conductors are connected to the individual contacts of the contact carrier insert, this fits into the socket housing from behind and the socket is mounted in such a way that the supporting parts of the contact carrier insert are supported on the mounting surface.
  • DE-A-3 843 852 shows a connector with a hollow cylindrical socket housing, in which an insert part receiving the electrical contact plug can be locked in order to be able to arrange it firmly, simply and securely, and preferably releasably, in the socket housing.
  • the outer cross section of the insert part corresponds approximately to the clear cross section of the box housing, so it is relatively large and, when the box housing is designed in accordance with the standards, is not suitable for being guided through relatively small openings or recesses.
  • the situation is similar in the case of the connector known from EP-A-0285 703 with a housing and a contact insert.
  • the contact insert can have such small dimensions that it can be passed through relatively small openings and recesses, such as are present, for example, in the spars of the body of a motor vehicle.
  • the disruptive large dimensions which are essentially determined by the support parts of the contact carrier insert, since these are in a standard socket
  • Both the support on the mounting surface and the fitting of the contact carrier insert into the socket housing are intended to be carried out according to the invention by the separate support body, which can subsequently be easily connected to the contact insert.
  • the contact insert can already be installed during the manufacture of the conductor strand and can be guided through it through the small openings and cutouts.
  • the contact insert mounted on the conductor strand is carried in a vehicle body when laying the conductor strand, for example, it is available as a finished, tested unit for mounting the socket on the bumper or on the body.
  • the difficult mounting of the contact carrier insert on the vehicle in an ergonomically unfavorable place is eliminated.
  • the assembly and testing of the conductor strand with the contact insert is thus carried out according to the invention independently of the socket assembly on the vehicle. The provision of a faultless socket connection can be reliably ensured by testing during the assembly of the wiring harness.
  • the socket assembly itself then only consists of assembling the support body with the contact insert, inserting the contact carrier insert, which has been completed so subsequently, into the socket housing and screwing the socket housing with the inserted contact carrier insert onto the vehicle body or the like for inserting the contact insert and at least one support section having the support parts and lockable on the receiving section, the contact insert can be inserted into the receiving section from behind without having to be detached from the conductor strand, and then at least a support section can be connected to the receiving section, so that the contact carrier insert thus formed has as a unit the dimensions and functions which are typical of the conventional contact carrier insert. Because the at least one support section, e.g. B.
  • the support parts can easily assume their correct position in relation to the contact insert without the contact insert from the conductor strand must be separated again.
  • the support body consisting of the receiving section and at least one support section, can be formed in one piece. This further simplifies the manufacture and handling of the support body during assembly.
  • the contact insert preferably consists of a contact housing, in which the contacts are received, and an end plate, which can be detachably connected to the latter after the contacts have been inserted into the contact housing.
  • the passage opening of the receiving section of the support body preferably has a shoulder and the contact insert can be pushed into the passage opening as far as the stop, so that, with simple assembly, both assume a defined position relative to one another.
  • the contact insert and the support body are dimensioned so that only after inserting the contact insert into the passage opening up to the Paragraph the at least one support section can be locked on the receiving section. In this way, incomplete assembly can be determined immediately and in particular also avoided if the support section or sections cannot be locked on the receiving section when the contact insert protrudes too far outwards from the receiving section.
  • the unit of contact insert and support body would not be able to be fully inserted into the socket housing if the contact insert was not pushed all the way into the passage opening in order to further increase the assembly reliability.
  • the contact insert preferably has a radially projecting edge in the region of the contact housing, which edge can interact with the shoulder in the passage opening as a stop.
  • the at least one support section preferably has a recess which is adapted to the cross section of the passage opening, so that the support section or sections in its folded position and fixed on the rear of the receiving section leave the cross section of the passage opening free for the conductor strand.
  • the support body is preferably designed symmetrically in such a way that a half-shell-shaped support section is attached to each of two opposite sides of the receiving section, the supporting sections being folded inwards after insertion of the contact insert into the passage opening of the receiving section and surrounding the conductor strand on the rear side of the receiving section can be set.
  • a reliable fixing of the support section or sections on the receiving section can be done in a simple manner in that the receiving section z. B. has designed as locking hooks locking means which cooperate with counter-locking means of the at least one support section designed as locking bars.
  • the latching means and / or counter-latching means can have run-on bevels or curves.
  • the front side that is to say the side of the at least one support section opposite the support parts, rests against the back of the reception section in the position locked with the receiving section, so that the sections in their assembled position are immovably close to one another and the support parts always theirs adopt the correct position in relation to the inner contour of the socket housing into which the contact carrier insert is to be inserted.
  • the latching means and counter-latching means are provided on the outer circumference of the receiving section or the at least one support section and the can housing has a recess into which the latching means and counter-latching means can only be inserted when they are latched together, but not otherwise. In this way, additional assembly security can be created.
  • the socket shown in the figures has a socket housing 1, in which, as can best be seen from FIGS. 2a and 2b, a contact carrier insert 2 is inserted in such a way that it supports the rear end of the socket housing 1 of a mounting surface is aligned and a plug with corresponding contacts can be inserted from the front, if necessary after opening a cover.
  • the contacts (not shown) to be connected to electrical conductors 3 are received in the contact carrier insert 2.
  • it is a 13-pin socket.
  • the contacts are provided in the area of a middle contact-receiving section 4, which has for this purpose exposed access openings 23 for the connection of the electrical conductors 3.
  • the contact carrier insert 2 has molded from the central contact receiving section 4 backwards and outwardly protruding, in the case shown as support legs formed support parts 5, which with its rear contact surface with the rear edge of the
  • the socket housing 1 is in alignment, as can best be seen from FIG. 2a, so that on the one hand they serve to support the contact carrier insert 2 on the mounting surface and, on the other hand, as can be seen from FIG. 2b, to position the contact carrier insert 2 in the socket housing 1 despite the relatively low cost of materials .
  • the contact carrier insert 2 consists of a contact insert 6 (FIG. 1a) of relatively small dimensions and a support body 7 intended for receiving the contact insert 6 (FIGS. 1b and 1c).
  • the contact-receiving section 4 is formed by the contact insert 6, while the support parts 5, which make up the relatively large dimensions of conventional contact carrier inserts 2, are formed by the separate support body 7. Because of its small dimensions, the contact insert 6 can be connected to the electrical conductors 3 of the conductor strand even before it is passed through relatively small openings and cutouts, for example the body of a motor vehicle, and can be guided together with this to the point where the socket is to be positioned. As can be seen from Fig.
  • the contact insert 6 is compact and consists of a contact housing 11 intended for receiving the contacts (with front access openings (not shown) for the mating contacts of the plug) and an end plate 12 which, after the contacts have been inserted in the contact housing 11 for securing it is placed on the rear end of the contact housing 11, for example by latching.
  • the support body 7 represents a relatively flat, one-piece structure, with a receiving section 8 and two supporting sections 10 connected via film hinges 14.
  • the receiving section 8 has a passage opening 9, in which, as shown in FIG 1b can be seen, the contact insert 6 can be inserted up to a stop.
  • the stop is formed by a shoulder 13 (FIGS. 1c and 2a) of the passage openings 9, which interacts with the outer, radially projecting edge of the contact housing 11.
  • a coding projection 25 projects into the passage opening 9, which coding projection corresponds to a coding recess (not shown) on the contact insert 6.
  • the two support sections 10 which can be folded inwards via the film hinges 14 in accordance with the representation of FIG. 1 b, have formed on the support parts 5 designed as support legs, which, as also indicated by dash-dotted lines in FIG Take up position in relation to contact insert 6.
  • the two supporting sections 10 assume their finally folded-in position when their front side 19 (FIG. 1b) abuts against the rear side 20 of the receiving section 8.
  • the two support sections 10 have semicircular cutouts 15, which complement each other to the cross section of the passage opening 9, so that they enclose the conductor strand leading backwards when the contact insert 6 is inserted into the passage opening 9.
  • the support sections 10 can be locked in that two mutually opposite latching means 16 are provided on the outer edge of the receiving section 8, each of which is designed as two spaced-apart, rearwardly projecting latching hooks with mutually facing latching lugs, while the support sections 10 have counter-latching means 17 at corresponding points on their outer circumference, which are designed as radially projecting latching webs.
  • the locking hooks In order to facilitate the production of the locking connection between the receiving section 8 and the support sections 10 folded down on these, the locking hooks have rounded curves 18 facing one another and the locking webs have ramp slopes 18.
  • the support sections 10 can only be brought into their finally retracted latching position when the contact insert 6 has been completely inserted into the receiving section 8 of the support body 7.
  • the back of the support parts 5 is also only in alignment with the rear edge of the can housing 1 when the support sections 10 have been transferred to their receiving position 8 in their final latching position when completely folded over.
  • the unit of contact insert 6 and support body 7 can only be inserted into this due to the inner contour of the socket housing 1 when said final locking position has been assumed by the support sections 10, since otherwise the support parts 5 protruding too far out would prevent insertion.
  • An additional assembly safeguard is ensured by the fact that the locking means 16 and counter-locking means 17 provided on one side, which are designed in the form of locking hooks and a locking bar, can only be inserted into a recess 21 in the can housing 1 when they are in their final locking position because otherwise the two locking hooks are too far apart when the locking is incomplete.
  • the receiving section 8 of the support body 7 carries a sealing ring 22 on its front side an approximately U-shaped profile in cross-section, on which the plug to be inserted into the socket with its ring attachment encompassing the contact housing 11 can bear in a sealing manner, so that the penetration of dirt and moisture to the contacts is avoided.
  • the socket according to the invention is assembled as follows: First, the contact insert 6 is provided with the required number of contacts and these are connected and checked with the associated conductors 3. It is also possible to first connect the conductors 3 to their contacts and then insert them into the contact housing 11. These processes take place during the manufacture of the conductor strand. A pre-assembled unit is provided for the installation of the socket on site. The conductor strand with the contact insert 6 is then passed through all openings and recesses in the body to the point where the socket is to be positioned, for example, on a motor vehicle body from the power source or the dashboard for mounting the socket.
