Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for canceling security prints printed on print media with at least one color reservoir and with at least one device for applying color to security prints recognized as misprints.
  • Such a validation device in the form of a validation printing unit is mentioned in EP-B 0 167 196 by the same applicant in the context of a method for processing banknotes or sheets of notes into bundles of notes.
  • print carriers printed with security prints in the form of sheets of security or sheets of security are first inspected to determine whether there are misprints.
  • the security prints recognized as misprints are provided with a marking which can be read by a detector.
  • the print media run past a reading device which has as many detectors as there are longitudinal rows for checking all the longitudinal rows. These detectors read the marks on the misprints and enter their positions into a computer where these misprint positions are stored.
  • the print media arrive in the cancellation printing unit, which is controlled by this computer and prints all misprints with a cancellation cancellation.
  • the print media then pass through a numbering machine in which only the perfect security prints are numbered consecutively.
  • the print carriers are then cut into individual value notes and the misprints, which are clearly marked as rejects by the cancellation stamp, are separated out, while the perfect value notes are bundled with complete ones Number sequence can be summarized.
  • the detailed structure of this cancellation printing unit and the way in which it is controlled are not described in EP-B-0 167 196.
  • Validation devices are already known which work with controlled paint spray nozzles, so that the printing medium moved past does not need to mechanically touch the device.
  • these paint spray nozzles have the disadvantage that they clog easily, in particular due to the paint drying in the event of a long period of rest or interruption of operation, so that frequent cleaning and maintenance are required.
  • the present invention has for its object to provide a non-contact improved cancellation device of the type mentioned, in which a blockage by drying ink is practically excluded, which is simple to set up and control and is also easy to maintain.
  • the centrifugal wheel only dips into the paint during the very short period of the actual validation process, but is otherwise always outside the color, so that no undesired layer of paint can build up on this centrifugal wheel.
  • the conditions for each devaluation are therefore the same and are not changed by prolonged operation due to increasing color contamination of the blast wheel.
  • an adjustable doctor blade is preferably also provided, which rests against the centrifugal wheel in the rest position of the trough and strips off the paint adhering to it, while the doctor blade is removed from the centrifugal wheel in the working position.
  • the device has a plurality of validation units E arranged next to one another, all of which are constructed identically and past which print carriers are guided in the direction of the arrow (FIG. 1), which run over a transport cylinder 14.
  • a print carrier P in the form of a paper web on which security prints, for example banknote or stamp prints, are printed in the form of a matrix in longitudinal and transverse rows.
  • cancellation units E is provided as the paper web has longitudinal rows running in the direction of transport, with one validation unit E being arranged in front of each longitudinal row.
  • the device according to FIG. 2 shows four cancellation units E, the left cancellation unit being shown at a distance from the others to illustrate that its positions can be individually adjusted.
  • each validation unit E consists of a frame 1, a vertically displaceable trough 3 for receiving paint 4, a centrifugal wheel 7 which sits on a horizontal drive shaft 8 installed above the trough 3 and is covered by a hood 9 fastened to the frame 1 , and from a vertically adjustable diaphragm 11. All frames 1 of the device are slidably arranged on a common traverse 2, which is oriented parallel to the axis of the transport cylinder 14, and can be fixed in the desired position by a screw 2a. The centrifugal wheels 7 of all validation units E sit on a common drive shaft 8 and rotate continuously.
  • each centrifugal wheel 7 has a region 7a close to the circumference in the form of a thin disk, which is formed on a substantially thicker hub 7b, which in turn is seated on the drive shaft 8 common to all centrifugal wheels 7.
  • the device according to the figures is shown on a scale of 1: 1, i.e. the disk-shaped, circumferential area 7a of the centrifugal wheel has a thickness of only about 2 mm, while the width is one Frame 1 is approximately 18 mm.
  • the tub 3 with the help of an actuator 6 vertically between a raised working position, which is shown with solid lines, and a lowered rest position 3 'adjustable, which is indicated by dash-dotted lines.
  • the actuator 6 is a pressure-actuated cylinder, specifically a pneumatic cylinder.
  • the color level 5 is so high that the blast wheel 7 dips into the paint 4 with its area 7a.
  • the color level 5 ' is so deep that the impeller 7 is not immersed in the color 4.
  • the hood 9 has an inclined wall section 9a, which is at a small distance in front of the circumference of the transport cylinder 14 and which has an opening 10.
  • the screen 11 is fastened to the bottom 3b of the tub 3 and consists of a substantially vertically oriented narrow plate, the upper area of which is provided with an opening 12 and angled so that it runs parallel to the inclined wall section 9a of the hood 9.
  • the opening 12 of the diaphragm 11 drawn with solid lines is in alignment with the opening 10 of the hood 9; in the rest position of the tub 3, however, the opening 10 is covered by the dash-dotted aperture 11.
  • the tub 3 is always supplied with paint 4 in sufficient quantity such that the level of the color within the tub 3 is at least approximately constant remains.
  • a doctor blade 13 is also provided, which cooperates with the centrifugal wheel 7 on the side opposite the screen 11 and forms the upper, angled part of an otherwise essentially vertically oriented stand 14, which is also fastened to the bottom 3b of the tub 3 .
  • the profile of this doctor blade 13 is adapted to the profile of the centrifugal wheel 7 and therefore, in the example under consideration, as shown in FIG. 4, has a slot 13a, the width of which is adapted to the thickness of the region 7a of the centrifugal wheel 7 close to the circumference.
  • the squeegee 13 which can be adjusted with this tub 3 is raised so far that it is removed from the centrifugal wheel 7 rotating in the direction of the curved arrow according to FIG. 1; 7 by the area 7a engaging in the slot 13a so that the paint is stripped off the spinner 7 when it emerges from the tub 3.
  • the actuators 6 are individually controlled during operation of the device by means of control valves (not shown) as a function of the positions of those security prints on the paper web which were recognized as misprints and should therefore be canceled by sprayed-on paint. Whenever a misprint to be devalued passes through the validation unit E in one or more of the longitudinal rows of the paper web, that is to say is moved past the relevant opening 10, the actuator 6, which is then actuated briefly, lifts the tub 3, which was then in its lower rest position, into it upper working position.
  • the diaphragm 11 opens the opening 10
  • the doctor blade 13 is removed from the centrifugal wheel 7 and this centrifugal wheel 7 now dips into the paint 4, so that the paint flung away from the circumference of the centrifugal wheel 7, indicated schematically in FIG. 1, is sprayed through the opening 12 and the opening 10 onto the relevant security impression.
  • the actuator 6 brings the tub 3 back into its lower rest position, so that the color level drops below the centrifugal wheel 7 and the screen 11 covers the opening 10; the paint then thrown off the centrifugal wheel 7 can therefore no longer emerge from the hood 9.
  • the doctor blade 13 which is then in contact with the centrifugal wheel 7 strips off the ink which is still adhering, so that no thickening or drying ink layers can adhere to the centrifugal wheel 7 when the device is at rest.
  • the individual control of the actuators 6 advantageously takes place, as mentioned in the introduction to the description, by a computer in which the positions of the security prints to be canceled are stored on the print media and which temporarily opens the control valve of the actuator 6 in question at the correct time.
  • the storage of the Misprint positions in the computer are carried out, for example, by optical detectors which locate the security impressions previously marked with a visual inspection, or by test detectors which automatically carry out a quality control of the security impressions and the positions of the misprints detected for storage in the Enter the calculator.
  • the invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiment described, but rather allows for numerous variants with regard to the design and arrangement of the actuator, the centrifugal wheel, the diaphragm and the doctor blade.
  • the diaphragm and the doctor blade could also be displaced by means of separate actuators which move synchronously with the trough, with the doctor blade being able to move essentially horizontally, for example.
  • the print media can also be value sheets or individual notes.
