Abstract

The smoothing takes place in a smoothing zone (2), in which the operation is carried out under pressure using temperature and moisture. The desired smoothness is achieved with a correspondingly long residence time of the web of material (1) in a smoothing zone (2) which is correspondingly long having regard to the velocity of the web. A still moist web (1) is guided between heatable surfaces (3, 4) which are arranged on both sides of the web (1), face each other across the web, extend in parallel and can each be pressed against the web. The surfaces (3, 4) are constructed over their entire length for forming and holding a given, defined contour of smoothing zone (2). The one surface (3) is, for example, constructed as an outer surface (5) of a heated cylinder (6) and the second surface (4) is constructed as a continuous flexible belt (7) which can be pressed towards the outer surface (5) of the cylinder by means of a concave support element (8). <??>If desired, the web (1) can be smoothed on both sides using the method. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a method for smoothing a paper or cardboard web.

Such a method is known from European Patent Application No. 0 141 614 A2 known. The long smoothing zone is between a smooth jacket of a heated roller and a band partially wrapping around the jacket. Not yet calendered paper or cardboard web becomes more or less in terms of web thickness less dried or moistened and then with the web side of the higher one Moisture pressed against the jacket of the heated roller using the tape. The one The surface of the web is thus smoothed during the dwell time in the smoothing zone. On The desired smoothing process therefore only takes place on one side of the web. During the The smoothing process is the use of temperature and pressure in the smoothing zone confusing and difficult to control.

The aim of the invention is a method for smoothing a paper or cardboard web, at which is still a wet track, without having previously made an asymmetrical one To have to generate moisture profile with respect to the web thickness, as desired can be smoothed. The use of pressure and temperature during the Smoothing process must be clear and easy to regulate.

This goal is achieved by measures that are defined in claim 1 specified are achieved.

By applying measures that are specified in the subclaims the smoothing process is particularly clear and controllable as desired shape.

Because a relatively low pressure is used in the long smoothing zone via the support elements can be in places of higher basis weight of the paper or cardboard web Pressure peaks largely avoided and better product quality achieved. It can due to the relatively long smoothing zone and sufficiently long dwell time of the material in the smoothing zone and thus the desired smoothness values on both sides of the web higher web speeds can be achieved. Especially the application lower pressures and high temperatures of the contact surfaces with higher web moisture levels favor smoothing that is gentle on the volume of the web, what is wanted here.

The method for smoothing a moving in the web running direction (arrow) Paper or cardboard web 1 takes place in at least one smoothing zone 2 at one defined duration of the smoothing process. The material is in the smoothing zone 2 during a dwell time, which is the length of the smoothing zone 2 and the Web speed can be calculated. During this according to the length of the Smoothing zone extended residence time is the material to be smoothed, i.e. the paper or Cardboard web exposed to an adjustable pressure in the smoothing zone 2. At a advantageous choice of conditions, the pressure can be relatively low. About the surfaces 3 and 4 arranged on both sides of the web 1 are used Temperature, which together with the moisture of the web 1 to the desired smoothing the train leads. The conditions can advantageously be chosen so that none overpressed areas in a web of uneven basis weight. This happens in the extended smoothing zone 2, which is long enough to have one in it sufficient dwell time of the material in view of the to be driven To achieve web speed. The smoothing zone 2 must be so long that the desired one Smoothing process completed during the dwell time and the desired smoothness reached can be. The higher the web running speed should be, the longer it has to be generally the length of the smoothing zone can be designed.

The use of pressure, temperature, humidity and the length of the smoothing zone are in Depends on which smoothness on which material and which one Web speed should be reached.

A device which is shown schematically in various figures as an example shown versions is used to carry out the invention Procedure. The device has a smoothing zone 2, which is between two to each other facing surfaces 3 and 4 is formed. The surfaces 3 and 4 run towards each other parallel, are heated and adjustable to each other, so that the web 1 a defined Pressing pressure can be exposed. The areas 3 and 4 extend over a Longitudinal section in the direction of web travel, which is indicated by an arrow.

According to the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 1, one surface 3 is a jacket 5 Roller 6. The second surface 4 is formed by an endless, flexible belt 7. The belt 7 is in the direction of the roll shell 5 by means of a press-on Support element 8 supported. This has a support surface concave to the band 7, which is complementary to the radius of the roll shell 5. The coat 5 of the Roller 6 and the belt 7 can be driven at the same speed as that Running speed of the web 1. If it is technologically desired, you can Differential speeds can be applied.

Instead of the jacket 5 of the roller 6, a flexible belt 19 can also be used, which is guided in a known manner, not shown here, over rolling rollers and in the Smoothing zone 2 is formed into a convex shape by means of a support element 18. The convex support surface is complementary to the opposite arranged concave surface of the support element 8. When using a metal strip has the advantage of good heatability. A e.g. Induction heating for that Volume 19 is indicated in Fig. 1 and designated 20. Another usable Device, e.g. for heating with steam or hot air is also indicated in Fig. 1 and designated 21. This would particularly advantageously be used if it was a non-metal tape 19.

The pressure to be applied in the smoothing zone 2 is determined by adjusting the pressure in the Pressure medium of the support element 8 or the support elements 8 and 18 can be generated. The Surface temperature of the smoothing surface is by means of devices 20 and 21, respectively adjustable. The moisture is given by the moisture of the web 1 to be treated. The flexible tapes are tight, i.e. impermeable, and between the tape and the A support layer of the support element is provided, which is a liquid layer is built hydrostatic and / or hydrodynamic manner. It takes care of low-friction running of the belt along the support surfaces. The liquid could Heating and temperature control for cooling. The support elements can in themselves be known sliding shoes, with a liquid between the support surface and the Tape was introduced. The support elements can also be known hydrostatic Be support elements. Your pressure bags could also be with a heating or cooling liquid. With these support elements both Pressure as well as the temperature in the smoothing zone 2 as required, if desired graded, adjusted, e.g. if a smoothing gap should not be enough it is advantageous to have 2 smoothing zones to be arranged one behind the other, for example as shown in FIG. 1. Will be in a smoothing zone each heated only one surface, then it is expedient to face the opposite heat so that the two sides of the web are smoothed one after the other on one surface become.

Another device for smoothing paper or cardboard webs sees Endless, flexible bands 7 before, which form the two surfaces 3 and 4.

The bands are supported by mutually adjustable support elements 9, see FIGS. 2 and 4, supported, each facing a flat band 7 Have support surface. They can be pressed against one another in a known manner in a defined manner. Although hydrostatic support elements are drawn here, sliding shoes are also from known type applicable. Between each band 7 and the flat support surface of the Support element 9, a liquid layer is provided, which in the example according to FIG. 2 is built hydrostatically. For this purpose, the support element faces the band 7 Pressure pockets 23, which can be acted upon with a pressure medium, if necessary tempered for heating or cooling. It is also possible to apply the liquid layer to build hydrodynamic ways, such as in Fig. 3 on the surface 3 be the case could.

In the device according to FIG. 3, one surface 3 is covered by a dense, impermeable band 7 formed. The second surface 4 is covered by one of the webs 1 adjacent wall 12 formed which is a pressure chamber of a box-shaped, against the web 1 adjustable support element 13 limited. The wall 12 is designed for Passing a gaseous medium, which under pressure through a line 22 in the pressure chamber can be inserted under the wall. The support element is in a carrier 24 embedded like a piston, a pressure chamber 25 being provided which is connected to a Pressure medium can be applied to press the support element in the direction of the Lane 1. Between the wall 12 and the lane 1, a gas layer is formed, which through the gaseous or vaporous medium is built up. Another modification is conceivable in which the pressure chamber 25 also with a gaseous or vaporous medium is supplied from there through one or more holes 22 'to the pressure chamber can get under the wall 12 (Fig. 4).
