Definitions
- the present invention relates to a slidably suspended splash guard for a bathtub, formed from an essentially flat, rectangular surface with an edge which adjoins the surface at least laterally and below, the edge running at the lower end of the splash guard on the upper edge of the bathtub edge.
- bathtubs are supplemented with a shower device and - as is often the case - mostly used for showering, there is a need to provide the bathtub with a splash guard.
- Such a splash guard consists of a rod or rail, which runs parallel to the edge of the bathtub and is clamped between two walls of the bathroom by spring force, and on which a curtain is hung.
- a splash guard is characterized by easy assembly and disassembly. Since the air in the shower room is heated when showering, there is an upward movement of air, which causes cold air to "flow" over the Bath tub edge leads. As a result, there is a tendency for the shower curtain to be lifted off the edge of the tub and - while at the same time impairing the splash protection effect - being blown onto the legs of the showering person in an unpleasant manner.
- this consists of displaceable, rotatable or foldable solid, usually flat wall elements, which form a shower cubicle that closes the bath completely or partially.
- EP 0 018 299 shows a splash guard consisting of one or more slidably suspended or foldable wall elements, in which one or two wall elements are not flat but curved so that the shower room is expanded accordingly.
- the object of the present invention is to remedy the disadvantages listed. This object is achieved by the characterizing features of the first claim.
- a splash guard is created which is just as easy to install and remove without permanent traces as a shower curtain, the splash guard adhering to the inside of the bathtub to a sufficient extent at the same time, but at the same time being easily moved or can be lifted off the edge of the bathtub for cleaning purposes.
- Fig. 1 shows the basic structure of a splash guard according to the invention, which is suspended on an upper guide 20 slidably.
- the guide 20 runs parallel to a bath tub edge 12.
- the splash guard consists of an essentially rectangular surface 1 with a lateral and lower edge 2 directed towards the bath tub.
- the edge 2 arranged approximately at right angles to surface 1.
- the height of the guide 20 is chosen so that the Edge 2 at the lower end of the splash guard runs on the upper edge 11 of the bathtub rim 12 such that, on the one hand, the splash guard can be moved and, on the other hand, there is no gap between the splash guard and the tub rim through which splash water can escape.
- the edge 2 is provided with an extension 5 at the lower end of the splash guard, which extends below the upper edge 11 of the bath tub rim 12 and bears against the inside 13 thereof.
- the extension 5 consists of a flat surface 7, which is additionally provided with a magnetic element 6.
- the magnetic element 6 adheres to the enamelled inner side 13 of the tub rim 12 and causes the splash guard not to rotate about the guide 20 against the tub.
- a narrow, for example plastic-coated, iron strip (not shown) is attached to the inside 13 of the bathtub edge at the level of the magnetic element 6.
- the extension 5 advantageously extends only over part of the lower edge 2 of the splash guard. This makes it possible to Move the splash guard all the way to one end of the bathtub without the extension 5 reaching the normally rounded end of the bathtub.
- Surface 1 can be provided with reinforcing ribs 3 for mechanical reinforcement of the splash guard.
- FIG. 2a shows a longitudinal section through the center of the splash guard of FIG. 1.
- the surface 7 of the extension 5 is inclined against the surface 1 of the splash guard in such a way that it runs parallel to the inside 13 of the edge of the bathtub.
- the guide 20 is preferably formed by a telescopically extendable guide rail which can be clamped between two opposite walls (not shown) and has a continuous lateral slot 22 (see FIG. 3), as is known from the applicant's EP-A 0 140 329 .
- the splash guard can be displaced parallel to the edge of the bath tub 12 by at least two runners 21 which are firmly connected to the splash guard and which are slidably arranged in the lateral slot of the guide rail 20.
- the edge 2 preferably includes the surface 1 not only laterally and below, but is designed as a peripheral edge (FIG. 2b).
- FIG. 2c shows a corresponding longitudinal section through a further embodiment of the invention, in which the peripheral edge 2 is arched, the outer edge of the edge again preferably running at right angles to the surface 1 of the splash guard.
- Fig. 3 shows a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the invention, in which the edge 2 is formed by two peripheral edge regions 2.1 and 2.2.
- Fig. 4 shows a longitudinal section through Fig. 3 along the line AA.
- the inner edge region 2.1 which rests on the surface 1 of the splash guard is inclined by a first angle ⁇ against the surface 1.
- the outer edge region 2.2 which is preferably narrower than the inner edge region 2.1, is inclined by a second angle ⁇ with respect to the latter.
- the angle ⁇ is chosen so that the outer edge region 2.2 runs approximately at right angles to the surface 1. Tests have shown that splashing water striking surface 1 is best deflected back into the bathtub if the angle ⁇ is chosen between 40 ° and 75 °, preferably 60 °.
- the upper edge is preferably additionally stiffened, for example, between the inner 2.1 and the outer Edge area 2.2, a further edge area 2.3 is provided (FIG. 4).
- FIG. 5 shows the design of the extension 5 in the preferred embodiment of the invention according to FIGS. 3 and 4.
- the surface 7 of the extension has a lower and lateral edge 8 which is approximately perpendicular to the surface 1 of the splash guard and in the outer edge area 2.2 passes.
- two magnetic elements 6 are used.
- FIG. 6 shows a section along the line B-B of FIG. 5.
- the magnetic element 6, preferably a rustproof ferrite magnet, is mounted in a recess 9 in the surface 7 of the extension 5 and is glued to a cover 10 in this recess.
- the splash guard is advantageously made from plastic, for example from environmentally friendly polyethylene terephthalate (PET) that is usually used for packaging.
- PET polyethylene terephthalate
- the spray protection (surface 1 including any reinforcing ribs 3, edge 2, extension 5 including depressions 9) is produced by deep drawing in a single operation from a single plastic film with a thickness of, for example, 0.5 to 2 millimeters.
- the Runners 21, which are also made of plastic, are fastened by means of plastic screws in holes provided for this purpose at the upper end of the splash guard.
- the entire splash guard therefore consists of rustproof parts.
- the edge 2 and any reinforcing ribs 3 give the splash guard sufficient strength so that conventional aluminum frames are unnecessary. It would also be conceivable to provide bulges in area 1, which e.g. could be used as a soap dish or storage space.
- the shape is limited insofar as it is important to ensure that the deep drawn product can be detached from the model shape.
