Description

(Voir EP-0 099 606)When flexible elongated products, such as plastic tubes, cables or flexible profiles are wound in torches it is necessary to link each torch by means of a link which is arranged in a loop around the section of the 'ring formed by the torch, and this in several places distributed around the periphery of this ring. Machines are known which comprise two articulated arms and a binding device located between the articulated arms. These machines make the link traverse the path in the form of a loop which it must traverse to surround the section of the ring and then link the two ends of this loop in a tight position around the torch for example by a welding operation if the link is a strip of plastic. (See EP-0 099 606)

However, until now, the operation of tying the torches formed on automatic reels comprising two drums for supporting the torches mounted on a barrel and rocking alternately between a winding position and an unloading position had not yet been able be fully automated under conditions allowing the installation to be easily adapted to the binding of torches with different dimensions of the torch section.

The object of the present invention is to fill this gap.

To this end, the present invention relates to a torch forming installation comprising, on the one hand, a reel equipped with drums and having a stop position in which one of the drums is in a position for tying a torch wound on this drum, each drum comprising an assembly of sectors distributed at a distance from each other around the axis of the drum, and each sector comprising a barrel element, a first flange element located at one end of the barrel and a second flange element, and, on the other hand, a binder provided with a link guiding arm, arranged so as to determine a binding point and placed near the reel, this binder being movable towards the axis of the drum situated in the binding position, the arms being arranged so as to engage between two sectors of the drum stopped in the binding position, then to close around the torch. Such an installation is known from EP-A 99 606. The installation according to the invention is characterized in that the second flange elements of the drums are movable in translation along the barrel elements, so as to allow adjustment of the axial width of the torches, and in that the binder is arranged so that the tying point lies substantially on a straight line defined as the intersection of a plane forming a front face of the torch and a plane containing l axis of the drum and be movable along this straight line.

We will now describe, by way of example, and with reference to the accompanying drawing, an embodiment of the installation according to the invention.

  • the. fig. 2 is a plan view also on a small scale of the installation of FIG. 1,
  • fig. 3 and 4 are views respectively in partially cut plan and in perspective, partial and on a larger scale showing a detail of the binder shown in FIGS. 1 and 2,

The installation which is shown in fig. 1 and 2 is intended to automatically form torches from a flexible product 1 which comes from a production line, the details of which need not be described here. This flexible product is guided by a slicing device 2 which is also not necessary to describe in detail and when a torch is finished, it is wound on a drum 3 which is in the unloading position. This drum is mounted on a barrel 4 and is pendant to another drum 5 which is then in its winding position. It is understood that, by a means not described here, the flexible product 1, for example a plastic pipe, will be cut on the drum 5, the end of the new strand then being fixed to the drum 5 so that the winding a new torch begins on this drum. The drum 3 must then be stopped and the finished torch 6 must be linked, this by means of a machine generally designated by 7 and which is located in the vicinity of the drum in the unloading position. This machine 7 generally comprises a fixed base 8 inside which is housed a drum 9 supporting the link which will serve to link the torch 6. On this base is mounted the binder itself which comprises a support 10 of the articulated arms 11 and 12 as well as a binding device 13. On the other hand, to understand the operation of the machine and the process, it must be considered that each of the two drums 3 and 5 of the reel, whose base 14 supports in rotation the barrel 4 is made up of a series of sectors 15 each comprising a pivoting flange element 16 and a flange element 17 which is axially movable on the barrel element 18 corresponding to the sector 15. The drum sectors 15 are carried by a rotary star 19 and are radially adjustable on this part, which allows to adjust at will the inside diameter of the torch. On the other hand, the possibility of displacement of the sectors 17 parallel to themselves along the barrel makes it possible to adjust at will the width of the torch that one wishes to produce, while the possibility of rotating the flange elements 16 on the end of the barrel sector opens the drum to ensure the discharge of the torch.

According to fig. 1, the support 10 of the pivoting arms 11 and 12 is mounted in a slide on the base 8, so that this support can be moved radially, i.e. in a direction which is situated in a horizontal plane at the height of the axis of the drum 3 in the unloading position. In the withdrawal position shown in fig. 1, the support 10 is placed so that the arms 11 and 12 are entirely outside the flanges 16 and 17. On the other hand, once the drum 3 located in the unloading position has been stopped in such an orientation that the space between two sectors 15 is in the horizontal plane at the level of the axis, it is possible, by moving the support 10 on the base 8, to bring the pivoting arms 11 and 12 to engage between two sectors 15 until at a distance from the axis which is less than the radius over which the barrel element 18 extends. This is what FIG. 2. It is therefore understood that it is possible that during this movement the pivoting arms 11 and 12 embrace the completed torch and that, on the other hand, a link driven by rollers and guided along the internal face of the two arms 11 and 12 travels along a path such that it completely surrounds the section of the torch.

The arrangement which allows this movement is shown in more detail in FIGS. 3 and 4. In fig. 3, we see first of all a part of the binding head 13. On the other hand, on a prominent part of the support 10 we see the means which are provided to cause a link 20 to move along the pivoting arms and in particular of the arm 12 whose base is visible in this fig. 3. The link 20 is driven so as to pass between two rollers 21 and 22. The roller 21 is mounted along a fixed axis on the support 10. It is driven by a motor and drives the roller 22 which is mounted on two gears a support lever 23 pivoting at 24 on the support 10 and biased by a spring 25 adjustable by means of a screw 26 on a stop 27. The link 20 is conducted so as to pass between the two rollers 21 and 22, then around of the roller 22 and then directed along the front face of the binding head 13. After passing in front of the element 29 which plays a particular role as will be explained below, the link 20 enters a guide slide 28 The latter has the form visible in FIG. 4. It consists of a flexible envelope having a slit in its middle part. This slide covers the left end of the binding head 13 in FIG. 3, as well as the internal faces of the two pivoting arms 11 and 12. It is understood that the end of the link being pushed by the rollers 21 and 22 in the slide 28, it will progressively follow the entire length of the internal face of the arm 11 then that of the arm 12 and thus describe a closed loop, the end finally arriving in front of the blocking means 29. At this point this end can be blocked, for example by a magnetic element or by any other temporary fixing means. If then the rollers 21 and 22 are driven in the opposite direction to that of the winding of the link around the torch, the end of the link remaining fixed to the element 29, then the link is stressed so as to be released from the slide 28 by lifting the two opposite tabs of this slide. This is what allows the torch to be tightened and ultimately the link to be fixed.

These last two operations are now described with reference to FIGS. 5, 6 and 7. In fig. 5 we see the binder 7 with its support 10, the two rollers 21 and 22 and the two pivoting arms 12 and 11 in the engagement position on a sector 15 mounted on the star 19 at a distance from the axis of the drum which corresponds to the maximum diameter of the torch. In addition, the flange movable in translation 17 is in the position as far apart as possible from the pivoting flange 16 and this position makes it possible to produce the torch capable of containing the greatest length of tube 1 possible. When the link has been brought to the position shown in this figure, the drive motor for the rollers 21 and 22 is therefore stopped and then reset in the opposite direction after the segment 29 has been controlled so as to fix the end of the link. At the same time, the tying head 13, which determines the tying point, is moved relative to the base 8 (not shown in fig. 5) and to the support 10 so that the tying point is on the cylindrical surface external of the torch in the immediate vicinity of the front wall limited by the flange 16. It is understood that this makes it possible to tighten the link around the torch and to execute automatically by means of the head 13, the fixing of the two ends of the link and cutting the link to the right of the loop thus formed. This operation being carried out the support 10 and the head 13 can be brought back so as to allow the rotation of the drum by an angle corresponding to the angular width of the sectors 15, so that a new space located between two sectors is in the horizontal plane opposite the binder. The binding operation can then start again and be repeated so as to place a link in each of the spaces between two sectors 15. It can also be content to tie the torch by means of one or two or three loops 31 (fig. 8 ) the maximum number corresponding to the number of intervals between the sectors of the drum.

If now the torch which one wishes to manufacture has the same diameter as with the arrangement of FIG. 5, but a reduced axial width, the operations to be carried out result from what is seen in FIG. 6. The sliding flange 17 has been moved relative to the barrel element 18 of the sector 15. The head 13 and the element 29 can still be moved radially in the direction of the axis until the tying head 13 is applied against the external cylindrical face of the torch in the immediate vicinity of the flange 16. It is therefore possible to link a torch of minimum width and diameter after a readjustment of the binding point which can be programmed.

Finally fig. 7 shows the relative positions of the support 10 of the head 13 and of the element 29 with respect to the axis of the drum in the case where the sectors 15 are placed at a distance from the axis which is minimal. We thus realize that all of the adjustments necessary to adapt the machine to a torch of any section is reduced to adjustments made along the same straight line defined as the intersection of two planes which are on the one hand the perpendicular plane to the axis of the drum and defining the front face of the torch close to the flange elements 16, and on the other hand the horizontal plane passing through the axis of the drum. All adjustments can be made by moving either the swivel arm support or the tying head in this direction.

It will also be noted that, to automatically ensure the tightening of the link on the torch whatever its section, a single operation is necessary: before starting the actual binding operation on a torch or on a series of torches of the same section, we start by measuring the perimeter of its section. For this, the link 20 (fig. 3) is advanced in the slide 28 so as to traverse the internal face of the assembly of the two arms 11 and 12, and during this operation the number of turns of the roller 21 is counted in a adequate electronic device. When the end of the link has arrived in front of the fixing element 29, the engine is stopped and then reset in the opposite direction once the end of the link has been fixed to the element 29, the number of revolutions made in the reverse by motor 21 also being strictly counted. Thus it is possible to memorize the two displacement lengths of the link 20 allowing on the one hand to close the loop on itself and on the other hand to reduce its length so that it is stretched over the section of the torch. These two values being stored, the entire binding operation can be performed automatically.
