  • the present invention relates to the field of perfumery and more particularly to the use of a cycloaliphatic carbinol of formula (1) or 4-cyclohexyl-2-methyl-2-butanol, as perfuming ingredient.
  • said compound has useful odorous properties and can therefore be advantageously used in various fields, both in alcoholic perfumery and in technical perfumery. Its offactive qualities are such that it serves to develop flowery notes reminiscent of lily of the valley and coriander. Its character is elegant and deep and can, therefore, enrich a good number of compositions by giving them a natural appearance. Its scent is similar to that of linatol, tetrahydrolinalol, dimetol or 4-isopropyl-cyclohexylmethanol [MAYOL (registered trademark of Firmenich SA)], and can be used to supplement that developed by these ingredients.

  • the proportions in which the carbinol of the invention can produce the desired effects vary over a fairly wide range of values. Such values depend on the particular effect which it is desired to obtain, as well as on the nature of the other ingredients in a given composition or on that of the products which it is desired to flavor.
  • concentrations of the order of 0.1-0.5% by weight, relative to the weight of the perfumed final product can produce marked effects in applications such as the perfuming of soaps or detergents.
  • these proportions can reach much higher values, for example being of the order of 2-5%, or even 20-30% of the weight of the composition.
  • the compound of the invention also finds an advantageous use as an odorous ingredient in functional products. It can indeed be used for perfuming soaps, cationic, anionic, zwitterionic or non-ionic detergents, textile conditioners, cleaning products, waxes or even cosmetic products or shampoos.
  • the carbinol of the invention can be used as a single ingredient, but preferably it is used in admixture with common perfuming co-ingredients (by way of example, natural or synthetic compounds may be mentioned for this purpose mentioned in the European patent application published under No. 0096243).
  • 4-Cyclohexyl-2-methyl-2-butanol is a known chemical compound, cited in particular in the prior art by N.E. Okazawa et al. [Can. J. Chem., 60, 2180-93 (1982)] (see the manufacturing process described by these authors).
