Definitions
- the invention relates to a rotatable ball mill with an inner lining, which has approximately circumferentially parallel grooves with a circular segment-shaped cross-section and within which grinding balls are arranged, the adjacent grooves being delimited from one another by approximately circumferentially extending webs.
- the grooves running approximately in the circumferential direction can be arranged in planes perpendicular to the axis of rotation or they can also run helically.
- the inner lining usually consists of armor plates inserted into the cylindrical wall. The grinding material introduced into the ball mill is ground in the ball pile between the individual balls and between the outer ball layer and the inner lining.
- a ball mill in which the inner lining has approximately circumferential grooves with a circular segment-shaped cross section, is known for example from AT-PS 283 092.
- the distance between the adjacent grooves is equal to the diameter of the largest ball, since the balls run side by side in the grooves.
- the ground material is ground in the grooves and the number of these grooves is limited by the axial extension of the ball mill. The grinding effect between the inner lining and the balls is therefore not optimal.
- the invention has for its object to improve the grinding effect between balls and the inner lining of the ball mill, and the invention consists essentially in that the center distances of the adjacent grooves are smaller than the diameter of the largest grinding ball and that the flanks in cross section through the webs they merge into one another by rounding off. Since the center distances between the adjacent grooves are smaller than the diameter of the largest grinding ball, more grooves can be accommodated in the inner lining with the same axial extent of the ball mill.
- the balls adjust so that they are offset from each other in the adjacent grooves, so that a larger number of balls causes grinding between the balls and the inner lining.
- a web remains between the adjacent grooves and because the center distances of the adjacent grooves are smaller than the diameter of the largest grinding balls, the web between the adjacent grooves narrows.
- the grooves overlap and the web would be reduced to a narrow or even sharp ridge.
- Such a narrow or even sharp ridge would be shattered by the falling balls.
- Such splinters would increase both the wear on the inner lining and the wear on the balls and, moreover, the destruction of the ridges and the grinding of the steel splinters would result in additional energy expenditure.
- the fact that in cross-section through the webs the flanks of these merge into one another via a rounding-off, destruction and fragmentation of the webs is largely avoided and the wear on the inner lining and the balls is thereby reduced.
- the grinding balls wear out during operation, which reduces their radius. At certain intervals, some of the worn balls are removed and replaced with new balls. In operation, the balls arrange themselves in the Pile piles automatically so that the larger new ones are at the bottom and interact with the grooves. Since the balls to be removed are taken from above, the smaller, worn balls are replaced. The radius of the largest grinding balls is therefore to be understood as the radius of such an exchanged new grinding ball.
- the balls in the grooves adjust so that the balls run at intervals from one another in the grooves. Such a distance promotes the penetration of new regrind into the grooves, and this improves the grinding effect.
- the design is such that the center distance of the adjacent grooves from one another is equal to the radius of the largest grinding ball multiplied by ⁇ 3. It is thereby achieved that the balls adjust themselves in the grooves in such a way that the balls in each groove lie close together in a row.
- the balls are arranged like a honeycomb, and in this case the densest ball position results.
- the centers of the balls in the adjacent grooves are offset by 30 ° from one another.
- the center distance a of the grooves is 2 x R x cos 30 °, where R is to be understood as the radius of the sphere, and this formula is simply R x y3.
- the radius of the rounding, over which the flanks of the webs merge in cross section is preferably 0.15 to 0.17 of the radius of the groove cross section.
- Such a dimensioning of the rounding is sufficient to counteract a destruction of the web between adjacent grooves.
- a rounding with a larger radius would reduce the effective groove cross section, and too large a reduction in the groove cross section is disadvantageous for the grinding effect, since the grinding takes place between the grooves and the balls.
- Fig.l shows a cross section through the two adjacent grooves with balls running in the grooves.
- 2 shows an element of the armor plates forming the inner lining and the arrangement of the balls running in the grooves in plan view.
- the inner lining consisting of armor plates is designated by 1.
- This inner lining has grooves 2 running in the circumferential direction, in which grinding balls 3 run.
- the center distance between the adjacent grooves 2 is denoted by a.
- This center distance a is smaller than the diameter b of the balls.
- Fig.l shows that the balls 3 run offset from each other in the adjacent grooves 2. Because the center distance between the grooves 2 is chosen to be smaller, there is a narrower web 4 between the grooves.
- the flanks 5 of this web merge into one another via a rounding 6.
- the radius of this rounding is designated by 7.
- the radius 7 of this rounding is 0.15 to 0.17 of the radius c of the cross section of the grooves 2.
- This densest layer is honeycomb-like, the connecting lines 9 between the centers 8a and 8b of the balls 3 being at an angle OC of 30 ° to the generatrix 10 of the cylinder formed by the inner lining.

Abstract
