- the present invention relates to a protective envelope which is particularly suitable for packaging ammunition with a combustible case intended to be housed in a container.
- Ammunition with combustible casings requires special precautions with regard to their packaging for transport and storage. Indeed, it is advisable not only to effectively protect the shell from such ammunition which is a more delicate part than the shell of a conventional ammunition but also to prevent the penetration of the projectile part into the shell by inertia, for example in the case of an axial shock exerted on the front or on the rear of the ammunition.

- a protective casing for ammunition with combustible casing comprising two half-shells of expanded thermoplastic material assembled around the projectile part of the ammunition, the assembled half-shells having an external diameter at most substantially equal to the external diameter of the combustible case and being profiled so as to hang on support points present or provided on the projectile part and in which the half-shells are held assembled by a rigid protective tube threaded thereon and on the whole of the combustible socket which is characterized in that it comprises a mechanical locking means between the assembled half-shells and the protective tube preventing any relative axial movement between these elements.

- the half-shells are generally produced by molding and in particular by injection molding from an expandable thermoplastic material such as an olefinic resin, a styrenic resin or a polyurethane resin. In general, it is preferred to use an injectable quality polyurethane resin.
- the expandable resin chosen must have sufficient mechanical strength, rigidity and abrasion resistance to allow the molded half-shells to perform their function of blocking the projectile part of the ammunition.
