Definitions

  • the technical field of the invention is that of retainers for artillery propellant charge case.
  • Artillery propellant charges are today constituted by a case, made of combustible material, and inside which is placed a propellant powder in loose or in bundles.
  • the case of propellant charge may slip at least partially out of the room before it is closed by the firing plate, thus disturbing the closing and being able cause shooting incidents.
  • This hollow or this cylindrical surface are delimited on the side of the shooting plate by a surface of support which retains the propellant charge inside bedroom.
  • the retainer according to the invention is carried by the case itself and it ensures the axial maintenance of the holster in the gun chamber even when the holster is finds coaxial in the room.
  • the retainer according to the invention ensures such maintenance whatever the geometry of the room, especially even if the room of the weapon is deprived of means of maintenance.
  • the subject of the invention is a stopper for a case propellant charge, case comprising an envelope cylindrical intended to contain a propellant charge and to be introduced into the chamber of a weapon, retainer characterized in that it comprises a skirt, continuous or formed of several sectors, skirt of diameter greater than that of the envelope and that of the bedroom and intended for be attached to the case by connecting means, this skirt deforming when the case is introduced into the weapon chamber so as to maintain the holster in the bedroom.
  • the retainer has a tubular portion intended for surround the envelope of the case, tubular portion which carries the means of connection.
  • connection means may include at least one cylindrical bead carried by the tubular portion and intended to cooperate with a complementary bead worn by the envelope of the case.
  • the tubular portion may include at least two slots regularly distributed angularly and allowing the establishment by elastic deformation of the bead of the retainer on the bead of the envelope.
  • the bead of the retainer may have an external diameter substantially equal to the diameter from the gun room.
  • the retainer has at least one substantially flat face normal to the axis of the skirt, face up intended to be applied against a bottom of the case and carrying the means of liaison.
  • connection means may include at least two tabs cut on the flat face and intended for cooperate with notches carried by the bottom of the case.
  • the retainer according to the invention will be made of a combustible material.
  • the invention also relates to a case for charging propellant provided with such a retainer whether it is removable or no.
  • a stopper 1 according to a first embodiment of the invention comprises a tubular portion 2 extended by a skirt 3.
  • the tubular portion 2 is intended to surround the casing of a propellant charge case (not shown) and its internal diameter is therefore substantially equal to outer diameter of the case.
  • the skirt 3 has an outer diameter greater than that of the tubular portion 2. It has a slightly conical shape flared towards a rear part (AR) of the retainer.
  • the tubular portion 2 carries a cylindrical bead 4 as well as 5 longitudinal slots, regularly distributed angularly, and arranged so as to give a some radial elasticity to tubular portion 2, to bead level 4.
  • This stopper is made of a combustible material, such as cardboard with or without nitrocellulose, and it is intended to be fixed to a propellant charge case 6 as shown in Figures 2a and 2b.
  • the case 6 comprises a closed cylindrical envelope 7 by a bottom 11 and intended to contain a propellant charge 8.
  • the case 6 is intended to be introduced into the chamber 9 of a weapon (not shown in detail).
  • Envelope and bottom are made of material combustible.
  • the cylindrical envelope 7 also carries a bead 10, which may be continuous over the entire circumference of the envelope or discontinuous.
  • the bead 4 of the retainer constitutes a means of connection between the retainer and the case 6.
  • the slots 5 allow the radial deformation of the tubular part 2, thus allowing the passage of the bead 10 of the envelope. The latter comes to lodge in the hollow formed by the inside of the bead 4 of the retainer 1.
  • the propellant charge case 6 carrying the retainer 1 is introduced into chamber 9 of the weapon with preferably an orientation such that the bead 4 enters the chamber before skirt 3, this in order to facilitate the introduction of the retainer in the room.
  • Figure 2b shows the case after its installation in room 9.
  • the skirt 3 is defined so that its diameter external is greater than the diameter of the chamber 9.
  • the stopper 1 deforms inside the chamber and the skirt 3 is in contact with the surface internal cylindrical 12 of chamber 9.
  • the elastic radial deformation of the skirt ensures the maintaining contact between the retainer and the chamber.
  • This contact generates friction forces and of adhesion which allow the axial retention of the case in the weapon chamber when the latter is strongly tilted.
  • the bead 4 will be given a diameter outer substantially equal to the diameter of the chamber 9 of tear.
  • Such a retainer can be permanently fixed to the case.
  • Figures 3a and 3b show a stopper 1 along a second embodiment of the invention.
  • this retainer includes a skirt 3 having a slightly conical shape flared towards a part rear AR of the retainer.
  • the skirt is connected to a substantially flat face 13 and normal to the axis 14 of the skirt.
  • the flat face 13 is cut out and carries three tabs 15 regularly distributed angularly
  • This stopper is made of a combustible material, such as cardboard with or without nitrocellulose, and it is intended to be fixed to a propellant charge case 6 as shown in figure 4.
  • the flat face 13 of the support 1 is applied against a bottom 11 of case 6.
  • the diameter of the skirt 3 is greater than that of the envelope of the case 6 and it is also chosen greater than the diameter of the chamber of the weapon.
  • the bottom of the case has three notches 16, regularly distributed angularly, and intended to receive the tabs 15 of the retainer.
  • the tongues 15 thus constitute a connecting means retainer and case.
  • the bottom 11 of the case will be preferably made of a combustible material.
  • the shape of the bottom is obtained by stamping a sheet of material combustible, such as a cardboard loaded with nitrocellulose.
  • the propellant charge case 6 carrying the retainer 1 is introduced into chamber 9 of the weapon with an orientation as shown in Figures 5a and 5b, i.e. with the skirt 3 entering the chamber 9 after the case 6 himself.
  • Figure 5b shows the case after its installation in room 9.
  • the skirt 3 is defined so that its diameter external is greater than the diameter of the chamber 9.
  • the stopper 1 deforms inside the chamber and the skirt 3 is in contact with the surface internal cylindrical 12 of chamber 9.
  • the elastic radial deformation of the skirt 3 ensures the maintaining contact between the retainer and the chamber.
  • This contact generates friction forces and of adhesion which allow the axial retention of the case in the weapon chamber when the latter is strongly tilted.
  • the support of the skirt on the chamber causes a elastic deformation of the flat face 13 maintained by the notches 16, causing a bracing of the skirt which has to increase the contact pressure between the skirt and the chamber, therefore the rigidity of the axial support.
  • This variant of the invention ensures a holding the case for cases with an external diameter is close to that of the gun chamber.
  • the skirt In practice, we will give the skirt a slope of the order 20%, the length in contact with the chamber can be on the order of 0.1 times the diameter of the chamber.
  • the retainer can be fixed so permanent on the case, but it can also be separated easily from it and can only be put in place last moment depending on operational needs.
  • the stopper can be made by fragmentable plastic during firing, for example in High density polyethylene or Polyamide. We will provide the if necessary, initiations of ruptures on the retainer for facilitate its destruction during firing.
