Definitions
- the present invention relates to a one-part continuous casting mold with a geometrically accurate and smooth inner surface and an outer surface designed for connection to a water cooler, consisting of a sufficiently thermally conductive metal, in particular copper, for strand solidification, and one for supporting the strand wall temperature sufficient for the operating temperature. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for producing such a continuous casting mold, in particular for steel.
- One-piece continuous casting molds are generally used for billet formats up to 160 mm edge length and also for small blooms. While they used to consist of a forged billet with cooling holes, today they are usually made from a drawn copper tube that is attached to the water cooler, so that the mold is surrounded by a water jacket that flows in countercurrent to the liquid steel that has passed through and that The mold surface flows evenly. Such molds are known from "Handbuch der Stranggie C", 1958, page 395.
- the invention has for its object to improve one-piece continuous casting molds of the type presumed to be known in such a way that they have a longer service life and are less sensitive to damage from the cold strand.
- the various cracks on the billets are also to be reduced.
- the mold consists of electrodeposited layers, in which the inner layer is made of a wear-resistant metal, such as nickel, in a layer thickness of up to 35% of the total wall thickness, deposited on a geometrically exact shape and smooth core is, and that their two end faces are brought by mechanical processing to position and dimensional accuracy for the connection of the water cooling box.
- a wear-resistant metal such as nickel
- the new continuous casting mold differs fundamentally from the known embodiments by a different structure and by the type of surface treatment. It does not require any finishing work inside; rather, the inner dimension is specified in the same way as the required inner smoothness at the core, which is designed and processed on the surface in the manner in which the inner surface of the mold is desired.
- the inner dimension is specified in the same way as the required inner smoothness at the core, which is designed and processed on the surface in the manner in which the inner surface of the mold is desired.
- a galvanic deposition results in a material bond that reliably avoids detachment of one layer from the other layer. Due to the dense, metallic structure, the heat flow is also unimpeded in the area of the transition from the inner layer to the outer layer, so that the cooling capacity of such a mold is also very good.
- the processing which is also recognizable externally by scoring, takes place in the new mold on its two end faces, which are designed according to the size and surface of the water tank in the area of its connection points. It is therefore important to create the position and the dimensional accuracy for the connection of the water cooling box.
- the additional sealants to be used are taken into account; for example, one Provide a groove for inserting a sealing cord.
- the superficial pressurization is particularly important in the new mold in that it succeeds in eliminating the tensile stresses that build up during the galvanoplastic deposition.
- the pressurization leads to a solidification on the outer surface of the mold and to an easier release of the finished mold from the core.
- a core made of metal which has a separating layer and a conductive layer thereon, so that pressure can be applied to the core.
- the entire core is also expediently of greater length than the mold. The result of this is that it is produced with a certain upper dimension on its end faces. It is thus possible to set the exact dimension of the mold between its two end faces by mechanical processing.
- the pressurization can also be applied in different ways. This also includes machining, in particular cold drawing, although certain restrictions with regard to the curvature of the mold cavity must also be taken into account. Otherwise, the design of the mold cavity is not restricted either with regard to its curvature or with regard to its conicity if the mold is designed according to the invention.
- the inner layer in particular consisting of nickel, expediently has a thickness of up to approximately 2 mm.
- the aforementioned limitation of the inner layer is advantageous because, depending on the materials used and the total thickness envisaged, the heat dissipation conditions then do not change appreciably.
- nickel which is advantageously provided for reasons of hardness, mechanical strength and corrosion resistance, the internal tensile stresses can become very large with increasing thickness.
- organic sulfur compounds reduce the tensile residual stresses to zero, but this leads to the corresponding organic compounds then also being present in the layer and adversely changing their other property values. It is therefore advantageous to use electrolytic solutions without such additives.
- the new mold can consist of electroplated layers of only one material, such as copper or nickel.
- the design of the inner layer made of nickel and the design of the outer layer made of copper are particularly advantageous.
- a composite material body with property values optimally adapted for the intended use is obtained in the manner already illustrated.
- Maintaining the thinnest possible inner layer requires that the thickness of the entire deposition area be as equal as possible. This requirement is taken into account by an appropriate scattering ability of the electrolyte. In particular, this is achieved by the proposal for carrying out the method according to the invention, according to which the deposition conditions for the inner layer differ from the outer layer.
- the current density if it is deposited in a current-carrying manner, is reduced to only about 1 A dm 2 , while it is otherwise around 3 A dm 2 . Regardless of whether currentless or current-carrying is deposited, the metal content and the temperature of the solution are further reduced and / or the pH content of the solution is increased in order to improve the scatterability.
- the method according to the invention provides for the layers of the mold to be made of metal, with a separating layer and then with a To separate the core provided with the conductive layer and then to carry out the surface and the pressurization of the mold on the same core.
- this pressurization can also be combined with further deformation.
- the continuous casting mold consists of the inner layer 1, which was deposited on the slightly conical core 6 indicated by dashed lines.
- the conical core 6, which can consist of a non-metal, such as plastic, and in special cases, as described above_, also of metal, such as steel, was provided with a separating layer. Separating layer agents known from the galvanoplastic process are suitable for this.
- the thinnest metal salt layers such as in the case of core made of metal, in the treatment of the same in borate, chromate, oxalate, sulfide and J odit solutions are achieved.
- Brushed graphite dust is also suitable not only as a conductive layer, but also as a separating layer.
- the core can also be chemically silver-plated in order to be easily separated from the galvanoplastic product. With some metals that form thin oxide layers, such as with chromium-nickel steels, a separating layer is often even unnecessary.
- the conductive layer is then applied in a known manner. This can happen on plastic cores through chemical silver plating. Brushing graphite is one of the best known means of realizing a conductive layer.
- the layer 1 consisting of nickel is first deposited, after which the considerably thicker layer consisting of copper is deposited Shift? follows.
- the scatterability of the nickel deposition is very good, the surface of the deposited layer is even more uneven than a mechanically processed layer. This unevenness leads to a particularly firm connection with the copper layer. Diffusion processes occur, particularly with prolonged use, in the edge zone of the two layers, which promote a close material bond.
- the top and bottom faces 3 and 4 are machined so that they are suitable for a sealing connection with the water cooler 5. In the latter lead inflow pipes 7, so that the water flows in countercurrent through the water jacket and exits the drain pipes 8.
- the treatment of the core begins according to the invention with the application of a micro-cracked chromium layer with a thickness of approximately 1 p.
- the separation takes place here from a solution in which 240 to 320 grams of chromic acid anhydride (Cr0 3 ) is dissolved per liter of water. 0.1% sulfuric acid (H 2 SO 4 ) is also added to this solution.
- the chrome layer is then deposited with a relatively high current density of 15 to 24 A / dm 2 . This layer is then treated with hot water. This causes the micro-cracks to tear open and develop. At the same time, the chrome layer is passivated particularly reliably by treatment with hot water, so that it offers a good prerequisite for separation.
- the chrome layer mentioned is then treated with a sulfuric acid copper sulfate solution in which about 240 grams of CuS0 4 and 60 grams of H 2 SO 4 are dissolved per liter. In addition, 90 to 100 mg Cl - are added per liter. At a current density of 4 to 6 A / dm 2 , a very thin copper layer is deposited, which fills the micro-cracks and forms a thin layer of approximately 1.5 ⁇ .
- the actual inner layer is applied from a nickel sulfamate bath, in which about 80 grams of nickel sulfamate / L, 3 grams of Cl - / liter and 40 grams of H 3 B0 3 / liter are present.
- the current density is 1 to 2 A / dm Z in order to achieve a fine deposition.
- the copper layer is deposited from the aforementioned acidic copper bath, but in this case only with a current density of 1 to 1.5 A / dm 2 .
- the mold is then still on the core made of steel. It is treated on the core by means of a thin roller supported by a stronger roller, the thickness of which is smaller than the wall thickness of the mold. It is thereby achieved that an overall reduction in the wall thickness of approximately 0.5% takes place during the roller treatment, primarily in the vicinity of the outer copper layer treated directly with the roller. This leads in particular to a solidification of the outer copper layer, so that the latter is not only largely smooth after the treatment, but is also more resistant to mechanical stress.
- the pressure treatment of the electroplated mold can also be successfully carried out by work hardening the copper outer layer in the region of its edge zone in such a way that the outer surface of the mold is subjected to shot peening. This has an effect similar to hammering or surface rolling.
- the strength properties of the surface and its peripheral zone can thus be increased considerably without any significant deformation forces having to be applied.
- small glass or steel balls are expediently used, the diameter of which is approximately 1 mm, and which act on the surfaces to be processed in free fall. It is sufficient to drop them from a height of 1 to 4 m onto the surface, the latter advantageously being covered beforehand with a liquid substance, such as oil or water. Since only very small forces act on the mold in this process, it is not imperative that it be on the steel core during the treatment.
- the technology of shot peening is also known, for example from the publication by R. Kopp "An analytical contribution to shot peening" in the magazine "B selected, Bleche, Rohr", 1974, pages 512 to 514.

Abstract
